TwitchCon Amsterdam Event cancelled amid fear of Coronavirus spread

Today Twitch via their official TwitchCon Twitter account announced the cancellation of the TwitchCon Amsterdam which was slated to start on May 2nd and conclude on 3rd May. After debating and analyzing the concerns and risk it was decided to cancel the event rather than postponing it.

Twitch in a lengthy Twitter statement said:

We have been monitoring Coronavirus concerns and having weighed the potential health risks to our community we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel TwitchCon Amsterdam. TwitchCon is the best weekend to be a Twitch fan. To say we’re disappointed you won’t be able to enjoy the show we’ve been building for you is a massive understatement. But the health and safety of our community, employees, and everyone else who has a part in making TwitchCon happen is, as always, our top priority.

Later after the announcement, Twitch fans weren’t happy and were concerned about the tickets and hotel bookings that were made in advance through Twitch. The company further announced that it would provide a full refund to the ticket holders and also refund hotel booking if booked through Twitch’s block free of charge.

Even though the event still had 2 months’ time for preparations, Twitch decided it was for better to clear the plans way before rather than keeping their fans uncertain for 2 months.
