Shanghai to Host the Second 2024 Counter-Strike 2 Major

Perfect World has announced that Shanghai, China, will host the second Major of 2024. This event, scheduled for December 2024, marks a historic moment as it will be the first time China has hosted a Counter-Strike Major since Valve began supporting these prestigious events in 2013.

The Shanghai Major, set to unfold in December 2024, represents a new chapter in the history of Counter-Strike. This announcement, made during the final day of the CS Asia Championships, highlights China’s growing prominence in the global esports arena. The event’s exact dates are yet to be confirmed, but it follows the Regional Major Ranking (RMR) qualifiers, planned from October 26 to November 13, 2024.

Perfect World, a key player in organizing top-level regional tournaments in China, has been instrumental in elevating the country’s esports scene. Their experience in hosting international LAN events, like the ongoing CS Asia Championships, and regional tournaments such as the Perfect World Arena Premier League, positions them perfectly to manage the Shanghai Major.

While Perfect World’s announcement did not mention PGL, reports indicated that Perfect World would run the Shanghai Major in partnership with PGL. PGL is also organizing the first Major of 2024 in Copenhagen, showcasing its expertise in managing large-scale esports events.

The Shanghai Major in December 2024 will be a milestone in the evolution of global esports, particularly for the Counter-Strike community. The event is poised to be a spectacular showcase of competitive gaming, further cementing China’s position on the esports world stage.
