For the first time in a decade, Fnatic is set to miss the upcoming League of Legends Worlds 2026 Championship.
The organization’s ten-year run of consecutive LoL Worlds appearances came to an end after a defeat against GIANTX in the LEC Summer Split, which closed off every remaining path for Fnatic to qualify for the playoffs, and with it, every route to Worlds.
It’s a rough way to end a streak that dates back to 2013, the first year of the LEC’s existence, during which Fnatic had never once missed the postseason. Losing it to a team like GIANTX, rather than to a top-tier rival, only sharpens the sting.
The result is especially frustrating given how much change Fnatic pushed through heading into 2026. The org parted ways with Oscarinin, Humanoid, and Mikyx, bringing in Vladi, Empyros, and Lospa, before swapping Empyros out for South Korean top laner Soboro mid-split.
It was meant to be a clean reset for the org after a winless Worlds 2025 run, but the revamped Fnatic roster never really managed to find its footing, consequently missing out on the playoff spot.
Just weeks earlier, Fnatic’s Valorant roster suffered its own historic first elimination as they failed to qualify for Champions 2026, the biggest Valorant event of the year. Prior to this, the org hadn’t missed Valorant Champions even once in its history.
For a brand that’s spent over a decade being somewhere around the helm of European League of Legends, missing the LoL Worlds event is certain to raise some questions, both about this roster and about the direction of the org as a whole. GIANTX, on the other hand, gets to carry the momentum of ending an era into their own playoff push.
The community will eagerly look forward to seeing how Fnatic recovers from this heading into the next competitive LoL season.
