They are very different products. The Ultimate Edition is the game plus digital extras. The Collector’s Edition is a box of physical merchandise with no game inside.

Quick answer: the main difference
The GTA 6 Ultimate Edition is a digital version of the game that costs $99.99 and adds exclusive in-game content. The GTA 6 Collector’s Edition costs $400 (£350 in the UK) and contains 11 physical collectibles, but no copy of the game.
If you want to play GTA 6, you need the Standard or Ultimate Edition. The Collector’s Edition is an extra purchase on top of that.

What’s in the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition?
Rockstar describes the Ultimate Edition as a set of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and extra activities spread through Jason and Lucia’s story. Rockstar lists 16 named benefits, and they unlock as you progress through the game’s chapters instead of all at once.

The Dominator Buggy is stored at the Paradise Garage in Watson Bay, which also has a weapons locker and a safe spot to bank stolen goods. The Squalo boat is docked at Washington Beach with a crate of explosives on board. The Electric Fang tattoo shop has more than 50 exclusive designs from the artist collective FAILE.
Two items are activities, not cosmetics. The Compound raid and the Classic Car Collection are missions you cannot access without the Ultimate Edition.
Neither edition gives early access, faster progress or different story missions. The main story is the same in both.

The Goodtime State Vice City Collection is themed around Macca the Gator, a character from a fictional TV show inside the game. It comes in an exclusive Collector’s Box with these items:

How the two are connected
The two products share a theme. The Ultimate Edition’s Goodtime Gear is an in-game clothing and accessory line based on Macca the Gator. The Collector’s Edition uses the same character and branding for real items. Owning one does not unlock anything in the other. The Collector’s Edition does not come with Goodtime Gear or any other in-game content.

Can you upgrade to the Ultimate Edition later?
Yes. Standard Edition owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately after redeeming their game code. This applies to both digital copies and the code inside the physical Standard box. Rockstar has not promised the upgrade will always cost exactly $20, so check your platform store before buying.
There is no upgrade path for the Collector’s Edition. It is a limited physical product, and once stock runs out it may not return.
Pre-order bonus: same for both game editions
Anyone who buys the Standard or Ultimate Edition before November 20, 2026 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack. It includes the ’55 Vapid Stanier, retro outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia, and a weapon pattern based on Tommy Vercetti’s Hawaiian shirt. Digital pre-orders also include a free month of GTA+. The Collector’s Edition does not include this bonus, because it does not include the game.
