One of the biggest football clubs in the world, FC Barcelona is set to enter Valorant esports in the 2024 season with a Challenger’s team for the Spanish League.
Spanish content creator Lembro from Giants Gaming revealed on Twitter that football heavyweights FC Barcelona are looking to enter the Valotant esports scene in the upcoming season. Several top organisations from different backgrounds are entering Valorant ahead of the new season and FCB is arguably the biggest name to enter it. Barca previously dabbled in the esports scene, most notably with FIFA but that goes hand in hand with their footballing roots.
Entering the Valorant scene would mean a greater commitment in the field of esports from Barcelona and given their financial conditions there is a good chance that this might not yield something financially reasonable but as a part of their Barca Games initiative having esports teams would generate content that will convert in revenue in the future.
“FC Barcelona will have a Valorant team in 2024 to compete in LVP Rising. It will be hand in hand with the Barça Games initiative that the club recently presented and they are already evaluating signings, due to budget they could fight for the league. More news soon” said Spanish esports personality Lembo.
“Barça Games is a reply to the Club’s wish to continue to be leading in terms of new opportunities and to aid the construction of the Digital Espai Barça.” said club president Joan Laporta.
Barca was determined to explore different avenues of revenue in light of their recent financial woes. If things go as reported, we will see Barca going through qualifiers or getting an invite to the Challengers League. The 2024 will be an interesting year for the Spanish valorant scene given so many big names are coming in to contest.
