Cyberpunk: Edgerunners – A Cyberpunk 2077 Anime Series Announced

The series has been confirmed to premiere in 2022

CD Projekt Red, the developers behind the post-apocalyptic action RPG Cyberpunk 2077 have officially announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an upcoming anime series created by Studio Trigger.

The team behind Edgerunners have revealed that the series will take place “in the same universe as Cyberpunk 2077,” which means players will have something to look forward to once they’re done finishing the title other than the DLC that’s expected to land in 2021.

The blog post states, “CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”

The Anime series will be directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, the director of some other popular series like ‘Gurren Lagann’ or ‘Kill la Kill’, alongside Masahiko Otsuka as the assistant director.

Other members in the team include creative director Hiromi Wakabayashi, character designers Yoh Yoshinari and Yuto Kaneko, and the adapted screenplay by Yoshiki Usa and Masahiko Otsuka. The soundtrack will be composed by Akira Yamaoka from the Silent Hill series.

Some other anime from Studio Trigger that fans might be familiar with include ‘Darling in the Franxx’ or ‘Neon Genesis Evangelion’.

While the exact date of the series’ arrival is still uncertain, it’ll premier at some point in 2022.
