G2 Esports, having lost two of the best players in the world in m0NESY and NiKo, has been on a downhill path. From one of the best teams in the world, G2 now find themselves out of the conversation for the Austin Major. While changes were impending after the conclusion of the Major, we have announcements confirming the latest additions to the G2 camp.
G2 identified Malbs as the player to replace NiKo while NiKo was on the team, but m0NESY’s replacement was hard to find, given that there is no top AWPer available in the market. It took them quite a while, but G2 will have SunPayus join the team as an AWPer, while TaZ will be replaced by sAw, a coach who boasts quite the CV for building teams.
G2’s expected roster after the summer break:
- Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa
- Janusz “Snax” Pogorzelski
- Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač
- Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko
- Álvaro “SunPayus” García
- Eetu “sAw” Saha (coach)
While G2 Esports has always been the team that brings star players under their belt to put together superteams. SunPayus will be a very different approach for the organisation as they move towards a more system-oriented approach, as they distance themselves from the superteam approach.
sAw’s signing signifies that more and more changes are on the way if a functional team cannot be put together, but with complete control over the roster, G2 will be the team to look out for in the second half of 2025.
