24-year opens fire at Madden NFL tournament at GLHF Game Bar in Florida

0

David Katz, a 24-year-old gamer from Baltimore, Maryland, was in Jacksonville for the tournament at GLHF Game Bar, in the back of a pizza restaurant. On Sunday, he brought a gun into the venue and opened fire, killing two people. Then he turned the gun on himself, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams said. Police have not released a possible motive.

Katz used at least one handgun in the shooting, the sheriff said. Nine other people suffered gunshot wounds and two people were injured fleeing the area, Williams said. The victims were all in stable condition at local hospitals, the sheriff said.

The horror that unfolded was captured on an online stream of the event, posted the website Twitch. The game abruptly stopped after several shots were heard.ย People screamed. One person cried out, “Oh f**, what’d he shoot me with?”

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., 911 calls started pouring in about a shooting, according to Williams. Officers were on the scene within two minutes. Aleman said he huddled in the bathroom for 10 minutes and ran from the scene.ย “I’m still shocked, I can hardly talk,” he told CNN.

Katz went by the gaming naming “Bread” and previously won Madden tournaments in 2017, multiple gamers told CNN.ย In February 2017, the Buffalo Bills tweeted out a picture of him after he won the Madden 17 Bills Championship. “Congrats to David Katz, the Madden 17 Bills Championship winner! Thanks for following along, Bills fans,” the tweet read.

In an interview after the win with former Buffalos Bills player Steve Tasker, Katz talked about his prowess. “I think personally I’m one of the better players,” he said.

God Particles win ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND India – Online Qualifier

The finals of ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND India – Online Qualifier begin with a typical Delhi-Mumbai matchup with God Particles taking on JHS in a best-of-three encounter. God Particles banned Train and Nuke, picking up Inferno while their counterparts banned Dust II and Cache, picking up Mirage. Overpass was the decider.

Final Score :ย

  • Mirage:ย GodP 16–14 JHS

  • Inferno: GodP 16–8 JHS

  • Overpass

God Particles started on the offense with a fair amount of utility to hit the A-site on the pistol round but zAAz won the round for JHS with a ninja-defuse. JHS convincingly won the second round against the half-buy but the following round went into God Particles’ pocket with sh1vy clutching a crucial post plant 1vs1. The scout on B-site was pretty effective to stop God Particles in the succeeding rounds while finally breaking their economy leading to a 5-1 lead for the boys from Bombay. God Particles convincingly won the next five rounds, taking the lead 6-5. The first half ended 8-7 in the favour of God Particles.

The second-half begin with A-site hit similar to the first round but the Mumbai squad had it in the pocket, equaling the score-line at 8-8. JHS didnโ€™t collapse against the force-buys, entering an empty A-site, twice. The buy-round saw JHS getting two quick kills on the A-site which followed by remaining CT players deciding to save their weapons. God Particles ended JHS’s four-rounds streak in the twentieth round with Hoax and KnightRider getting 2k each, although, zAAz did a commendable effort on his side. Since then, it was a very much back and forth scenario but God Particles came on the top, taking JHS’s map pick 16-14.

The second map was Inferno, God Particles’ pick. JHS chose the defensive side, pushing the Delhi powerhouse on the T-side. God Particles decided to jump-off the balcony but zAAz came in with an impressive quad-kill to help his side take the pistol round somewhat easily. JHS did lose two members in the beginning but a triple kill from zAAz made sure that his side grabs the following round as well with seven kills beside his name. JHS won the first buy-round but God Particles forced in the succeeding round and KinghtRider took triple kill with the P90 to win the first round in the second map. God Particles went on to winning six straight rounds but BADlove did fight back with an essential 2k with the AWP to stop the terrorists entering the A-site and getting the fifth round for JHF. Since then, GodParticles won all the following rounds to end the first-half 10-5 with sh1vy’s beautiful triple kill.

Three players from God Particles rushed apartments to get the first kill and later, winning the chaotic pistol round. Lads from Delhi didn’t crumble against the force-buy and glocks to secure a 13-5 lead. God Particles did get two early picks in the first buy-round of the second-half but BADlove and Harsh Arora turned the table taking three and two kills respectively in quick succession. JHS did win the next two rounds making the scoreline 13-8 but God Particles replied back efficiently, taking three rounds guided by a magnificent quad-kill from spyder. God Particles took the second map 16-8 and they’re your winners for ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND 2018 – Online Qualifier (India).

Optic India grab first seed over Entity

Optic India secured a quick 2-0 series win (Default 1-0, Inferno 16-12) over Entity to secure first seed at the Regional Finals of the Indian Qualifiers of Zowie eXTREMESLAND ASIA 2018.

Optic started Inferno on the CT side. Entity though, managed to land the pistol round despite a 3k from Forsaken to kick o๏ฌ€ proceedings. Marzil though, ensured his 3k does not go in vain as Optic India broke back immediately.

The Optic India domination ensued as they raced to a 4-1 lead, thanks to some calculated aggression and impressive holds. Huntr managed to kill 4 Optic players but lost the 1v1 to hand Optic India their fifth round on Inferno.

By the time Forsaken clutched 1v2, Optic India had established a comfortable 7-1 lead. Optic India then chose to go for some mid aggression, which paid o๏ฌ€, as had been the case thus far.

With the scoreline reading 11-1, Entity finally managed to break through Opticโ€™s defence at B to land their second round on the T side. Haivaan then produced an example of the e๏ฌ€ective use of utilities that Optic India have become famous for as Antidote clutched to extend the lead.

HellRanger made sure Entity had something to defend on the CT side as he converted a 1v1 post- plant scenario over Forsaken to end the half with a scoreline of 3-12.

Antidote seemed to have pulled o๏ฌ€ a miraculous post-plant defence on B. But, Entity prevailed to get themselves the pistol round in hopes of mounting a comeback. Some boiler aggression yielded them the anti-eco. But, Forsaken hit back with a 3k to propel Optic to within 3 rounds of securing the first seed.

A couple of clean rounds followed from Entity before a calculated B hit by Optic India forced Entity into a 3-man save. Optic India chose to go for mid control and secured the A bombsite in the ensuing round, forcing Entityโ€™s players into another save.

Facing as many as eight Tournament points, Entity started their comeback well with a B retake. Entity then proceeded to land some clean rounds on the defence and a win over pistol-wielding Optic India saw them come within 3 rounds of Overtime.

But, Optic India went for a patient hit on the B bombsite, something that caught Entity a bit o๏ฌ€- guard. Optic closed out the map 16-12, securing the first seed at Regional Finals.

This map showed just why CT aggression is a necessity on Inferno at least, if not most maps. Optic India had already established themselves to be a team who favour aggression a-la Vega Squadron.

While some areas still need to be polished, their synchronized play and performance at the DIQ would be a warning shot to the contenders in India. Optic India have arrived and they are not here to just stay but dominate the Indian circuit.

Entity hold firm despite 2ez barrage

Entity had to grind hard to overcome 2ez gaming over 3 maps (Mirage 14-16, Cache 16-4, Overpass 16-13) to join Optic India as the qualified teams for the Regional Finals of the Indian Qualifiers for Zowie eXTREMESLAND ASIA 2018.

Entity chose to hit the B site on their pistol round. The players then rotated through the market area to plant at A. But, 2ez retook the site to nab the pistol. Entity managed to get the plant down in the eco as well.

The two plants meant Entity went into the third round with a good buy, albeit not a full buy. They managed to make it work with a brilliant B fake to enter an unguarded A site. 2ez were undone by the fake and lost the retake, thanks to a Team Ace from Entity.

Entity took advantage of the gained momentum and won four more rounds before a 1v2 from Amaterasu ensured 2ez were not able to make their Double AWP buy work. A split attack on the B site saw Entity move to a 7-2 lead.

A brilliant defence from 2ez on the B bombsite put an end to Entityโ€™s streak. But, it was to be merely a pause as Entity hit back immediately with an A split through the connector. Excali then converted a 1v3 to pile on the misery of 2ez gaming.

Consecutive hits at A propelled Entity to 11-3 before 2ez managed to defend the B bombsite to end the half with 4 rounds on the board.

Entity almost got the pistol round with Amaterasu fragging 3 2ez players. But, there wasnโ€™t enough time to defuse. 2ez then managed four more rounds without a response from Entity.

2ez entered an empty A bombsite on the 21st round. But, Entity were able to retake the site to ensure their first round of the second half.

But, like Entityโ€™s T side, 2ez continued to dominate, racing to a 14-12 lead before a 3k from Amaterasu brought one round back for Entity. A successful defence of the A site leveled the score.

Huntr seemed to have put Entity on map point. But, titoโ€™s molotov made sure it was 2ez who were the one to move to within 1 round of securing Mirage. 2ez then went for the B hit and closed out Entityโ€™s map pick 16-14.

Both the teams seemed to struggle on the CT side. It might come down to either side relying more on individuality than on co-ordinated aggression. But, their abysmal CT sides would surely provide some food for thought going into the future matches.

Entity were intent on making quick work of things on Cache. HellRanger got a 3k as Entity pushed through B mains on the CT side in a call that caught 2ez by surprise. With the scoreboard reading 3-0 in favour of Entity, Huntr recorded 4k. The AWPer was not done yet as he pushed B mains on to dismantle 2ezโ€™s buy round.

2ez looked hapless till the eighth round wherein Poki opened up with 2 quick kills at mid, which ensured the first round for 2ez. Entity chose to send two of their players to take doors control at A. 2ez though, somehow managed to win the round and added another with an A hit, which saw Entity opt for a 2-man save.

The saved weaponry worked wonders again, with Entity shutting down the A split. Entity raced to double figures before 2ez managed to foil a 2v3 retake attempt at B to get their fourth round.

HellRanger though ensured 2ez got no more than 4 rounds as he shut down the o๏ฌ€ence to end the half 11-4.

A brilliant double fake A rush from Entity got them the second pistol of the map. Entity did not let themselves become complacent and made sure there was no repeat of Mirage. The Bengaluru- based stack won in a streak to close out the map 16-4 and send the series into the decider, Overpass.

There isnโ€™t much to digress on this map apart from Entity realising what they could have done on the Mirage CT side. Their aggression unsettled 2ez from the get-go and the Mumbai-based stack never managed to recover from it.

Entity started out with a 3-0 deficit as they lost the pistol round, thanks to a fast B short split rush through the connector by 2ez gaming. They managed to retake the A bombsite on the fourth round to put themselves on the board.

But, the following A execute saw Badman come up huge and hand 2ez the round with his individual play. After a few back and forth rounds, a nice B hold and an Olof defuse at A saw Entity reduce the deficit to two rounds.

Entity though, were quickly undone by a rush through the playground area and their decision to force buy in the ensuing round saw them reset their economy. Entity and 2ez shared the spoils in the remaining two rounds to end the half with 2ez leading 10-5.

Entity ensured they start their T side with 3 rounds, just as 2ez did. But, they left it too late to capture the A site and had no time to plant, handing the round to 2ez. Entity though, did not let the botched attempt get to them and not only leveled the scoreline but raced to a 13-11 lead.

Poki starred on the B defence as 2ez managed to retake the B site in a 2v2 scenario, with HellRanger late to pull the trigger on the defusing CT.

Entity though, reset 2ez with an A hit. But, 2ez were not to be deterred by it and won the quasi buy, pushing the score to 14-13, thanks to a 1v1 clutch from Poki.

Entity chose to pull out the A smoke wall strategy from their playbook, a strategy 2ez had no answer for. Entity defended the 3v4 afterplant scenario in the ensuing round to win the map 16-13 and qualify for the Regional Finals.

Entity will now go up against Optic India in the Grand Finals. Optic will have a map advantage, seeing as they come into the match from the Upper Bracket. Both the teams though, have qualified for the Regional Finals, something that was highly expected at the start of the DIQ.

We feel experience is what pulled Entity through here. Even in some dire situations, their players emerged on top, which bodes well for the team going forward. 2ez though, should not lose heart from the result.

Not many expected 2ez to put up such a result and finish third in the DIQ, especially their form coming into the Qualifiers. But, as mentioned in our Preview, 2ez are not a team to go through a bad phase for long. It is refreshing to see 2ez get their mojo back.

OpTic India reign supreme

Optic India took down Entity over 3 maps (Nuke 16-9, Dust2 12-16, Cache 16-11) to move into the Grand Finals of the DIQ and become the first team to qualify for the Indian Regional Finals as part of the qualifiers for Zowie eXTREMESLAND ASIA 2018.

Optic started Nuke on the CT side, with Entity opting to start on the less favoured side. Entityโ€™s attempt to hit the Inner site was stopped dead in its tracks by Optic India. Marzil and Forsaken then came up with 3k each on respective rounds to ensure Optic India get all three rounds.

Optic India decided to continue with their weaponry and pushed the Inner area to gain map control. Their push was not anticipated by Entity, who conceded the round quickly. The Optic India aggression was relentless.

Antidote pushed lobby to secure a 3k for himself and Opticโ€™s sixth round in a row. A couple of Outer attempts by Entity were foiled by Optic India, with the second one seeing a brilliant double push by Optic India from Secret to shut down Entity.

It looked like Entity would finally get a round to their name as they got two early picks. But, Marzil came up huge with 3k to demolish all hopes. As the half neared towards a 15-0 scoreline, Amaterasu ensured Entity will not be blanked on the half, converting a 1v2 at A on the last round of the half.

Nuke is often a map with lopsided CT halves. And it looked to be heading that way, with Entity securing the pistol round and the two anti-eco rounds that followed. Optic chose to fall back to the strategy that worked wonders against Invictus, with Outer smokes.

But, Huntr made sure Entity had a counter, with the AWPer landing a 3k. Optic were being countered by Entity in an admirable manner as the scoreline reached 14-8. Finally, the outer control play paid dividends for Optic India and they managed to reach map point.

Huntr though, showed up bid again to deny Optic India the B site. A 2v3 afterplant on the A site though, proved to be the undoing of Entity as Optic closed out the map 16-9.

Not much can be said about it, except the fact that Entity made a mistake by choosing to start on the T side. They may be confident on their playbook. But, with Nuke being chosen by Optic India, they should have anticipated their opponents to have a good setup on the CT side.

Nuke is a map where it can be di๏ฌƒcult to get T rounds if you come unstuck. And that was the case on the day for Entity. Had they started on the CT side, things would have gone di๏ฌ€erently.

Optic chose to rush A long on the CT pistol round. Antidoteโ€™s 3k ensured the pistol win. Marzil secured a 3k of his won in the round after. A patient B hit on the Force buy saw Entity open their account on Dust2.

They chose to execute a B split, which yielded them another round win. Entity tried to change up things and went for A long control. But, Forsaken stood strong, ending the round with a 4k. Excali responded with a 3k in the following round. The score soon read 4-3 in Entityโ€™s favour.

Consecutive B hits by Entity saw Antidote save the map on both the rounds. Optic India chose to bring out the Double awp setup. While the AWPers did not do much, Optic Indiaโ€™s change saw them draw level at 6-6.

Forsaken came up huge again with a 4k to propel Optic India into the lead. Antidote shutdown the A short hit with a 4k on the AWP and Optic India secured the final round of the half to go into theย  T side with a 9-6 lead.

Entityโ€™s CT side proved too strong for Optic India though. Before Optic India could get a sense of what Entity are doing, Entity raced to an 11-9 lead. Hellranger and Excali shut down a quick B attempt to add another round.

Optic India soon responded with two rounds to their name, the highlight being their ability to switch up the pace of their attack. Amaterasu put a stop to the Optic India juggernaut before it even began, with a 1v1 on the B site.

Entity soon reached map point. But, Optic Indiaโ€™s hit on the B site compelled Entity to go for a save. The saved weaponry was essential as Entity succeeded the A retake attempt to close out the map 16-12 and push the series to Cache.

Entityโ€™s CT side on Dust2 is perhaps the best in the Indian scene. Their synchronized plays along with the individual skill level they have in their arsenal makes them a dangerous team on the map. The 6 rounds they got on the T side proved more than enough. But, Optic Indiaโ€™s B defence needs some improvement, judging by the constant successful takes by Entity.

Entity chose to go for an A take in the pistol round. Optic India though, managed to retake in time despite some brilliant positioning from their opponents, with Marzil shining through with the pistol.

Entity decided to force buy and used brute force to execute a B split, which resulted in Optic India going for a 2-man save. Two consecutive plays leading to the B site saw Entity put up 3 rounds on the board.

With Optic on the full buy, they decided to show some aggression towards A, which yielded two rounds. An A take in the 8th round of the map saw Antidote fail to convert a 1v2 and Entity drew level.

Optic then went on a 3-round streak before Entityโ€™s hit at the B site saw them secure their fifth round on the map. Optic India shut down an attempt at A subsequently. A 3k each from Marzilย ย  and Forsaken in the respective rounds that followed ensured a 10-5 lead for Optic India going into the second half.

Optic India raced to a 14-5 lead in a streak that saw Haivaan clutch a 1v2 in the second round of the second half. Entity made the Quasi buy work before another 3k from Marzil saw Optic move up to map point.

With Entity facing the prospect of moving down to the Lower Bracket, the individuals stepped up. There were some brilliant holds by Entity while a 3k each from Huntr and Excali saw Entity reach double figures.

A 4k from Amaterasu provided Entity with a glimmer of hope of taking Cache into overtime. But, Optic India chose to take the A bombsite and their success left Excali in a 1v4, which he was unable to convert as Optic India became the first team to qualify for the Regional Finals.

A map that started in a back-and-forth manner, Optic took charge during the mid game and it could again be chalked down to their willingness to go for aggression during the round to either make plays or gain information.

More often than not, Entityโ€™s executes or hits on either bombsite were telegraphed. There werenโ€™t many mistakes made by either side over the 3 maps. There were some missed shots but in terms of mid-round calling, this was perhaps the best series of Zowie eXTREMESLAND so far, as was expected to be.

Entity will now face 2ez Gaming, with one spot left in the Regional Finals.

Ate Upset Invictus to stay alive in DIQ

Ate managed to upset Invictus over 3 maps (13-16 Train, 16-2 Cache, 19-17 Inferno) to keep alive their hopes of grabbing one of the two spots available in the Direct Invite Qualifiers.

The action started on Train with Invictus on the T side. Pashasahil opened up the A bombsite with a 2k as the fast play saw Invictus land the pistol round. Invictus cleaned up the two anti-eco rounds that followed to race to a 3-0 lead.

With Ate on the full buy now, they started showing their prowess. Bogeymanh starred on the A defence with a 3k to shut down Invictus. Ate won consecutive rounds to level the scoreline.

Bogeymanh seemed to be everywhere as a 2k on the B defence saw Ate take the lead. Kappaโ€™s 3k ensured Invictus and their pistols buy was shut down immediately. Ate gaming had built up a decent bank, with 5 rounds on the trot.

Manan though, responded with a 4k on the B site to get Invictus back to winning ways before an Inner play saw Invictus draw level. Binary BuGG stepped up with a brilliant 3k entry into the A site, with Ate forced into a 1-man save.

A dry hit at B through the lower and a 2k from Pashasahil ensured another round for Invictus. Kappa seemed to have done enough with a 2k on the A defence. But, Invictus held their composure to win the round regardless.

With the score at 8-5 in favour of Invictus, Bogeymanh stepped up with a 2k from the deagle towards the mid area as Ate won the round on a pistol buy. Invictus tried to execute another patient B hit but Ate shut down their opponents to end the half with a respectable 7-8 scoreline.

Ate chose to hit the inner site on their pistol round and won it comfortably. Manan came up huge with a 3k to break back before Invictus shut down another B hit to propel Invictus to a two-round lead.

Bogeymanh lead the charge with a 2k as an A execute through the mid caught the Invictus defence. Buster salvaged the anti-eco with a 3k after Pashasahilโ€™s initial double kill at mid entrance.

Invictus then went on to notch up three straight rounds without any response before a clean Ivy control play resulted in a round win for Ate gaming. Invictus though, soon retaliated by shutting down the Ate offence two rounds in a row to go up to map point.

Consecutive A hits from Ate gaming saw them narrow the deficit to just 2 rounds before Invictus pulled out a rabbit from their hat. Another A hit ensued. But, Blackhawk and Ribbi shut down Ate gaming despite being on pistols to grab the map 16-13.

Invictus always looked in control of the map, despite back and forth rounds. Their dry hits on the T side worked wonders while they managed to shut down their opponents on the CT side, to an extent.

Cache though, was a one-sided affair. Ate Gaming won the pistol round, starting on the T side. The ensuing round could very well have seen Invictus break back, thanks to Pashasahilโ€™s 3k. But, Kappa clutched a 1v2 to secure the round.

Ate gaming began piling up the rounds, with a 4k from Buster on the fifth round of Cache. Several hits to the A bombsite remained unanswered as Ate gaming raced to a 11-0 lead. Ribbi though, got Invictus on the board with a 3k on the A defence.

Foxy responded with his own 3k to break Invictus back in what was another fast hit towards the A bombsite. Invictus never managed to recover as the half ended 14-1 in favour of Ate gaming.

Ribbi ensured the map is prolonged to a certain extent with a 3k in the pistol round. But, Buster shut down Invictus on the B site in the following round to put Ate on map point. Kappa made sure the map point is achieved quickly with a 2k in the ensuing round.

It was evident from the map that Invictus lack chemistry map and perhaps, Cache is a map the team has not played much, if ever, recently. Ate gamingโ€™s buddy system was working fine, with trades coming in time.

Inferno saw a role reversal of sorts, with Invictus starting on the T side in a similarly dominant fashion. Manan opened up the pistol round with a 3k. Invictus were patient in their play style, which unsettled Ate to an extent and before people could blind, Invictus had raced to a 7-0 lead. Ribbi then came up huge in a 2v4 with a 3k to ensure Ate were kept in check. BinaryBUGG recorded a 3k of his won to win another round for Invictus.

Ate got themselves on the board on the 11th round with a 3v3 retake of the B site. Foxy made sure they are not broken back immediately with a 4k hold at B. Ate though, had no answer to the split attack on the B site, with Invictus stretching their lead to 11-2.

Ritz then came up with huge individual play and Ate won the following round to end the half 11-4. Ate gaming had their backs against the wall and had to get the pistol round. So they did as Foxy converted a 1v3 scenario.

Ate gaming never looked back after the pistol round, not giving Invictus any room. Bogeymanh delivered the goods at B with a 4k to cut the deficit to 3 rounds. A 1v2 from Blackhawk in the 22nd round saw Invictus open their account on the CT side.

Ate raced on to map point soon, with the score reading 15-13. Invictus though, were far from done as they managed to propel the game to overtime.

Invictus shut down the A hit through the arch area to secure the first round before consecutive B splits saw Ate and Invictus share the spoils. With the score at 17-16 in favour of Invictus, Ate gaming needed all 3 rounds on the Ct side to ensure victory.

The first round saw Invictus go for a late B split. Invictus had no time left to plant with Ritz dropping the bomb carrier. An A hold and a frantic B Hold later, Ate gaming had completed a momentous comeback. Foxy lead the charge on Inferno with 42 frags to his name.

Both Invictus and Ate gaming had abysmal CT sides and never looked in control of the map. One of the key things on Infernoโ€™s CT side is gaining map control. But, the two sides were happy to sit back most of the rounds, which saw the offence craft their plays to perfection. A dogged CT performance from both the teams.

With the win, Ate gaming survive in the DIQ and will go up against 2ez for a spot in the Lower Bracket Finals.
