PTR quits CSGO

Peter “ptr” Gurney on Twitter has announced his retirement from CSGO and will exit from Bad News Bears, whom he first started playing for in 2019.

Just weeks after the conclusion of IEM Cologne 2021, ptr has decided to hang up his mouse and leave behind a seven-year illustrious career in CSGO. Moving forward the North American will majorly focus on pursuing Poker, full time.

Before joining Bad News Bears (BnB), ptr represented a plethora of top-tier teams including compLexity, NRG Esports, and Counter Logic Gaming. During his time with the latter, the 31-year-old North American made it to his first-ever CSGO Major at the ESL One: Katowice in 2015 where CLG were unable to get past their group but that helped ptr rise to prominence as a primary AWPer for every team he has played till now. A brief tenure with NRG saw Peter compete at the ESL Pro League Season 3 in North America and the finals of Season 4 until he signed up for Test Takers, later known as the Bad News Bears, an orgless team fended off by several players.

At BnB, ptr served as the team’s sniper alongside the newly joined in-game leader Alan “Shakezullah” Hardeman and went on to steer the team to IEM Cologne 2021’s play-in. Although they lost to Mousesports and LDLC, under Peter, Bad News Bears have proven to the community a significant updraft in the team’s synergy and overall impact on the scene.

With ptr’s departure, they are now:

  • Jonathan “Jonji” Carey
  • Michael “Swisher” Schmid
  • Gabe “Spongey” Greiner
  • Alan “Shakezullah” Hardeman
  • Nathan “madcow” Retterath (Head Coach)

VCC Pakistan and Afghanistan Qualifiers 2: All 4 teams qualified for the Semi-Final

0

With over 128 teams registering for the VCC Pakistan and Afghanistan Qualifier 2, it has come down to 4 teams after a long string of matches, with only one slot left for the main event.

Qualifier 1 saw Salt Esports book their tickets to the main event leaving other big names from the region behind. The only remaining slot will be reserved for the winner of the 2nd Qualifiers and the runners-up will be offered a wildcard match for a shot at qualifying.

Here are the four teams who made it to the Semi-Final of VCC Pakistan and Afghanistan Qualifiers 2:

Team Exploit

Given they were touted as the favorites going into the first qualifiers, their loss at the hands of Salt Esports was unforeseen but not surprising by any means. The second qualifiers saw a jump in their form and yet again they are the favorites to come through. Following an effortless win against Gladiator in the quarter-finals, they became one of the four teams fighting in the semis.

Team Perfectionsits:

Team Perfectionists breezed through Team Aquiver in the quarter-finals. Even though the first map was a bit closer than the second, a 13-7 and a 13-10 scoreline saw them book their place in the Semi-Finals against Team Exploit in the Semi-Finals of the Valorant Conquerors Championship Pakistan & Afghanistan Qualifiers 2.

Team Arrow:

Team Arrow managed the runner-up spot in the Valorant Conquerors Championship Pakistan & Afghanistan Qualifiers 1. The unfortunate events that unfolded in their finals of Qualifier 1 will make their desire to win the second one even more. The quarter-finals saw them beat Team Soviet by a 2-0 scoreline with a 13-8 and 13-6 on Haven and Split respectively.

MAXD Esports:

MAXD Esports was forced out from the VCC Pakistan and Afganisthan Qualifier 1, following a forfeit but it didn’t take them a long time to pick up where they left after managing a semi-final spot in the Qualifier 2. They eased past Clarity with a 13-0 scoreline across Haven and Bind.

All the semi-final matches will be live-streamed on the Nodwin Gaming’s YouTube channel.

Blizzard president J. Allen Brack steps down after sexual harassment lawsuit

0

Last week, employees of Activision Blizzard staged a walkout to protest alleged discrimination and sexual harassment, and an overall toxic work environment. On July 20, the studio, known for its popular titles such as World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch & Call of Duty, was hit by a lawsuit by the state of California and is being investigated for misconduct and unlawful behavior.

Following these allegations, Blizzard president J. Allen Brack will be stepping down to “pursue new opportunities” according to Activision Blizzard’s upper management. Brack’s name was mentioned in the lawsuit and was criticized for failing to stop an employee from harassing his female co-workers.

Brack will be replaced by Jen Oneal and Mike Ybarra, who will “co-lead Blizzard moving forward.”  Oneal was the head of Vicarious Visions (now owned by Activision Blizzard) and joined Blizzard in January as the Executive Vice President of development while Ybarra joined Blizzard in 2019 as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of platform and technology after working for Xbox as the Corporate Vice President, responsible for Xbox Live services.

“I am confident that Jen Oneal and Mike Ybarra will provide the leadership Blizzard needs to realize its full potential and will accelerate the pace of change,”  Brack said, in a final statement shared by Blizzard.

“I anticipate they will do so with passion and enthusiasm and that they can be trusted to lead with the highest levels of integrity and commitment to the components of our culture that make Blizzard so special.”

Fnatic Sign Former Cloud9 Players ALEX and Mezii to Their CSGO Roster

Legendary esports organization Fnatic has gone international with the recent signing of former Cloud9 Colossus stars Alex “ALEX” McMeekin and William “Mezii” Merriman.

Fnatic is undoubtedly one of the most renowned esports organizations to set foot in CSGO. They have achieved notable success at the highest levels of competitive Counter-Strike, including three major wins between 2013 and 2015 while running an entirely Swedish lineup.

However, the Fnatic roster has repeatedly failed to produce any significant results since their win at the EU division of ESL Pro League Season 11 that took place in April 2020. Following several disappointing finishes, the organization resorted to more drastic measures and benched Robin “flusha” Rönnquist in January before eventually parting ways in April. Jesper “JW” Wecksell and Maikil “Golden” Kunda Selim were also recently benched from the roster in July.

Towards the end of July, Fnatic chief gaming officer Patrik “cArn” Sättermon claimed that the organization would be going international in the near future. With the new signings of Mezii and ALEX, it seems like they’re adhering to their statement.

In a recent blog post, Fnatic Head Coach Andreas Samuelsson states that the organization “analyzed over a hundred players over the period” before coming to their decision on the new international roster.

After the first careful consideration, we decided that our best way forward would be to adopt an international lineup to ensure our purpose and vision would best be met. We have a huge amount of respect and admiration for the Swedish CSGO scene, however, we felt an international lineup would provide us with many more options and greater flexibility for the future.

Fnatic

ALEX will be stepping in as the new IGL of the Fnatic roster. Having played professional CSGO for nearly eight years, the 25-year-old has seen immense success in 2019 with Team Vitality alongside the likes of star AWPer Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut.

Fans will be able to catch the revamped Fnatic roster in action at the ESL Pro League Season 14 that is scheduled to start from August 13th.

xQc faces criticism from Pokimane and H3H3 following DMCA counterclaim

0

Following announcing his plans to counterclaim the DMCA strike, popular variety streamer xQc has been under fire from the likes of Pokimane and H3H3.

xQc was handed a DMCA strike after he re-broadcasted clips from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Despite claiming to have taken all the necessary precautions, he was put on a hiatus which was unfair according to him. To address this issue, the Canadian announced to take legal action against the strike.

Video Game Attorney aka Ryan Morrison who happens to be xQc’s lawyer provided some depth on the situation. He explained the risk that a counterclaim carries via Twitter which did not sit right with his fellow streamers.

H3H3 being someone who came out on top in a similar case felt that xQc’s lawyer is afraid to go forward with the lawsuit which is why he is skeptical in filing one thereby setting him for an unfortunate failure.

Pokimane as a veteran had her own views where she believes that there is a conflict of interest, which is why Morrison is shying away from a lawsuit. According to her, Morrison isn’t just xQc’s attorney but his agent too which is why he may avoid prolonging the lawsuit for his personal interest.

Judge urges PM Modi to ban Free Fire and BGMI in India

0

Mobile battle royale games are heavily scrutinized in India under the pretext of being addictive and harming the young generation. Some influential personalities have urged the government to ban such games on several occasions and this time, Additional District Judge Naresh Kumar Laka has written a letter to PM Modi, urging him to ban BGMI and Free Fire in the country.

Free Fire and Battlegrounds Mobile India are currently the top-grossing mobile games in India with millions of daily active players. These games have been under the scanner multiple times and BGMI was the product of a ban imposed on PUBG Mobile.

Krafton developed Battlegrounds Mobile India specifically for this region to better align with the laws and regulations. Free Fire is also a massive hit in India and Mr. Laka explained the ill effects caused by these games in his letter.

According to a report by TOI, Laka stated the following:

The citizens of the country appreciated your action in banning the notorious game PUBG Mobile which caused devastating adverse effect on the development of the children. But recently two similar games, namely, Free Fire and PUBG India(Battlegrounds Mobile India) are causing adverse effects on the children like the previous PUBG.

He added that children spend long hours playing such games which disturbs their normal life and affects their family and social behavior. He added that a law should be framed for restricting the exposure of such games to minors.

Previously, a similar kind of letter was written by Arunachal Pradesh MLA Ninong Ering. He also urged PM Modi to ban BGMI but no official actions have been taken on this appeal yet.

Fnatic CSGO go international, add ALEX and mezii

Fnatic on Twitter have announced the addition of Alex “ALEX” McMeekin and William “mezii” Merriman to their CSGO division. The duo will now replace Maikil “Golden” Selim and Jesper “JW” Wecksell on the active squad.

After three months of inactivity, ALEX returns to action at Fnatic and will take up the reigns as the team’s In-Game Leader while mezii joins the now International-Swedish side after the latter had represented Cloud9, led by the former Brit.

ALEX and mezii both joined Cloud9 as a part of Henry “HenryG” Greer’s project dubbed as the “Colossus” in the second half of 2020 alongside Ricky “floppy” Kemery, Ozgur “Woxic” Eker and Patrick “es3tag” Hansen. Across their time with Cloud9, the team had its own ups and downs, eventually having decided to put their CSGO division on hold earlier in March.

Through a press release, Head Coach Andreas “Samuelsson” Samuelsson stated,

Following that search, I’m very pleased to announce that we have signed Alex,  who we feel fits perfectly into that role within the new international structure. Alex is highly skilled, has a vast amount of experience, and is renowned for his professional IGL approach.

To build on that, we also wanted to fulfill the role of the hungry up-and-coming player who shared our drive and ambition. At this point, we’d been following William for a long period of and we felt that he has everything it takes to become one of the best rifle players in the game. Not only do we feel that William is extremely very versatile, but paired with great communication skills and is regarded as a proficient teammate, we feel he has huge potential.

At the end of July, Fnatic intended to field an international CSGO roster after they parted ways with Golden and JW in the wake of lacklustre showings across a plethora of tournaments including IEM Summer 2021 and FLASHPOINT Season 3.

As said above by Fnatic’s Head Coach, the Swedish Organization had their eyes on mezii as he had a wondrous year, having played for Cloud9 and Endpoint before signing up for Fnatic. After Cloud9 ceased their CSGO operations, William averaged with a rating of 1.22 across his time at Endpoint, an impressively better stat for the Brit when compared to the same with the Los Angeles-based team.

ALEX inarguably seems to be the perfect piece of the puzzle for Fnatic as they need a stoic captain going ahead and someone who would set up an example for the rest to follow. His previous triumphs with Vitality include championships at the ECS Season 7 finals, EPICENTER 2019, and Cs_summit 4.

Fnatic will debut with their new roster at the ESL Pro League Season 14, scheduled to start from August 16.

The team now looks like this:

  • Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson
  • Jack “Jackinho” Ström Mattsson
  • Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin
  • Alex “ALEX” McMeekin
  • William “mezii” Merriman
  • Sweden Andreas “Samuelsson” Samuelsson (Head coach)
  • Jesper “JW” Wecksell (benched)
  • Maikil “Golden” Selim (benched)

CSGO Walk Accuracy Bug Explained: How It Can Ruin Your Games

The nasty walk accuracy bug has been existent in CSGO for quite some time now, and it might be ruining your CSGO games if you don’t know the ways to avoid encountering it while playing competitive games.

This bug has previously surfaced on multiple social media platforms and several YouTubers have pointed it out. However, Valve has yet to take any steps to fix this major problem that players have been facing for a while.

CSGO Walk Accuracy Bug

In a video originally published back in February, YouTuber ‘Zoddom’ brought the walk accuracy bug to the spotlight, highlighting the impact it may have on competitive games. The issue has recently surfaced on the official CSGO subreddit once again as more and more players are growing aware of the negative impact that this bug may have in-game.

Zoddom explains that the formula for calculating inaccuracy in CSGO gets somewhat flawed when a player crouches while walking.

When you’re pressing crouch, the game essentially thinks you are running,” Zoddom explained.

This weird interaction results in the first three to four shots becoming heavily inaccurate while getting into a crouching stance. While this may not seem much on paper, these inaccurate shots can easily determine the outcome in firefights and may result in some easy rounds being lost as a result of this bug.

What’s even more concerning is the fact that this bug is repeatable quite easily in an actual game.

It can easily lead to losing a round that you should’ve won and technically it can happen much more often than let’s say the molo-smoke-bug. It can happen every single round depending on your playstyle.

Zoddom

The YouTuber further explained that this bug can be avoided in-game by counter-strafing properly. However, the “unintuitive” nature of the glitch has still led to an outburst in the community demanding Valve to fix the issue at the earliest.

How Should Casinos Engage In Esports In 2021 – 2022

Video games and eSports events attract a lot of youth, and their user base has reached a size that is difficult to ignore by marketers. So it’s quite common for brands or companies to try and have their brand displayed during eSports tournaments.  At one point, the Dutch blood bank created a campaign to inspire people to donate blood, through League of Legends.

Now it seems that casinos are also trying to become closer to esports, which is to be expected. There are lots of users ages between 18 and 30, and casinos are somewhat struggling to attract that demographic. Furthermore, it seems like there is already a plan in place, so let’s discuss what we can expect in 2021 and 2022.

Esports Betting

Given how there are lots of fans that cheer for different teams or professional gamers, it makes sense to offer betting on eSports in a casino. However, even sportsbook operators are facing challenges when it comes to the implementation of these betting options. The eSports are relatively new, and games undergo lots of changes every year, along with eSports teams. This makes it difficult to provide reliable odds for the players.

As far as betting in casinos goes, it really depends on the jurisdiction. The real goal is to have more users on a gambling site, and chances are they will try different games while they bet on eSports. A lot of top casinos that offer amazing casino games, slots, and live dealer games, are interested in adding sports betting.

However, laws for sports betting were written way before eSports were a thing, which is why it’s simply not possible for those casinos to add these options just yet. That being said there are a handful of online casinos with sports betting options that actually include eSports as well.

Esports and Casinos

Right now casinos are actually trying to bring eSports fans into their physical establishment. One such famous example is HyperX Esports Arena that is located in Las Vegas as a part of Luxor Hotel. The idea is to host these gaming events there and promote their brand. Of course many will likely give casino entertainment a try since they already paid for the whole trip to Las Vegas.

As far as online casinos that don’t offer eSports betting go, they are still trying to attract the audience that grew up playing video games. If you are to look at some of the popular real money online casino Canada platforms, you will see gambling slot games with cartoonish designs.

Users can actually play games that resemble those from their childhood and win real money. They are trying to make some of these casino games feel more like video games that people who were kids during the 80s’ and 90s’ grew up with.

What’s Next

The way things stand, online casinos are not the option for a lot of eSports bettors. However, that can change in the upcoming year, as more and more countries are re-evaluating their position and laws on gambling. That being said, operators are still trying to attract this same demographic by adding cool features like VR games, and even arcade slot machines.

It’s also possible they will create slots that are themed after some famous eSports titles, given how these reskins don’t cost too much.

Conclusion

Casinos definitely want to get more brand exposure or presence by piggybacking off of other trends. It’s not one of those cases where it just seems like too much trouble for a marketing campaign since the gambling industry, in general, has a hard time when it comes to ads.

Given how casinos can be generous sponsors, it’s likely that some of the teams at local competitions will start to accept these sponsorship deals.
