7 Sports Minister In India Officiate Esports As Cultural Events Through ESPL

Today the teams for ESPL 2021 Level 3 stage were revealed by Hon’ble Sports Ministers of 8 major cities of India. Sharing the stage with the Ministers, India Today Gaming revealed the names of the top 8 teams and their logos. 

The ESPL 2021 started on July 16th is in its final stage and soon we will know the winner of this prestigious and one of its kind Pan-India Free Fire tournament with a prize pool of Rs 25,00,000. From August 16th the Level 3 matches will begin and the Top 8 teams representing the major cities of India will compete against each other. The best teams will then advance to the final stage where the winner will be crowned and take home Rs 12,00,000 prize money.

ESPL 2021: Meet the top 88 Level 1 qualified teams

ESports Premier League 2021, also known as ESPL 2021, is a franchise-based esports league tournament that is being organised by India Today Gaming. The nationwide esports tournament is the first of its kind Free Fire tournament to be held in the country. ESPL 2021 is the first-ever third-party Free Fire multi-city tournament to have been organised in the country with such a humongous prize pool. ESPL 2021 has a massive prize pool of Rs 25,00,000 distributed among the top 8 teams of the ESPL 2021 grand finals.

The tournament has reached  the next phase where the top 22 teams from Level 1 qualified from each group A, B, C, and D. Thus a total of 88 qualified teams will compete along with 8 invited teams in the ESPL 2021 Level 2 round. ESPL 2021 Format

ESPL 2021 has been divided into four phases. The first phase was organised for amateur and semi-professional teams from across India. A total of 88 teams from this round qualified through the 2nd phase of the ESPL 2021. In the next phase, the qualified teams will be joined by 8 invited teams. The Level 2 round of ESPL 2021 will be held for eight days starting from 1st August 2021. The ESPL 2021 GRAND FINALE is scheduled on the 29th of August.

Why Renegades dropped out of CS:GO ESL Pro League Season 14

Oceanic powerhouse Renegades announced via a video on Twitter earlier today that they would not be participating in the 14th season of ESL Pro League. The tournament is set to take place in the online format; hence every team needs to be present in Europe to participate.

This has been an issue for the past year where all the non-EU teams, i.e. the ones from North America and Oceania are required to boot camp in Europe to be able to compete with the best.

Earlier this month, the Australian government imposed new restrictions regarding travel amid the rise of a new variant and a surge in new cases. Some cities even had to undergo lockdowns for a week to prevent the spread. There has been little relaxation in the restrictions since then, especially regarding international travel.

Thus, the Australians aren’t allowed to travel to Europe and had to withdraw from EPL S14, their place will be taken by CIS side “forZe” in the tournament. Renegades did participate in EPL S13 earlier on in the year, but couldn’t make it past the group stage, as it was an uphill climb facing the best in the world after a year of only playing domestic rivals.

They did do well in the first LAN back though, shocking OG esports and making it to the playoffs ahead of them, and even taking a map off Natus Vincere before eventually being knocked out.

This would hamper their preparations but Joshua “INS” Potter said that they will continue their grind and be ready for the next season of ESEA Premier, and also for the Regional Major Rankings events for a spot at the PGL Stockholm Major at the end of the year.

Immortals India announce FEMSTARS: A Female Only Free Fire tournament

Immortals India and Playtonia Esports have partnered up with several organizations like Essence Transmedia, House of Esports, and Resilience Esports to announce a special female-only Free Fire tournament called ‘FEMSTARS’.

FEMSTARS will be an invitational tournament where emerging female esports players have been invited to showcase their skill and valor on the patriotic occasion of Independence Day.

A total of twelve teams will be participating in this tournament. The slots are distributed on the basis of the prior performance of these teams in the relevant local scrimmage tournaments.

Free Fire is an emerging mobile esports title and its market has been growing consistently in India. A large number of players are trying to attain fame, based on their skills, in the Free Fire India community. Female-only tournaments are apparently on a decline in India and the organizers have arranged this event in an effort to rekindle the dousing flame.

Jitesh Kharat, Founder and CEO at Immortals India talked about the current esports scenario and the specialty of this tournament. He said, “Esports is rising on an impeccable pace, but one could clearly see there is minimal efforts taken in terms of female-only events.”

Talking about FEMSTARS, he added, “To fill this void Immortals India & Playtonia Esports came up with FEMSTARS and we are delighted to work with our partners namely Essence Transmedia, House of Esports & Resilience Esports for this event We have done such events in past and have positive plans for
the future.”

This innovative tournament will certainly boost the involvement of emerging female Free Fire professional players and provide them with a platform. A similar kind of tournament can be expected for other games as well.

The Rainbow Six Siege update 2.10 is now available on all the platforms. This update basically brings a hotfix for the Containment game mode. Apart from it, there isn’t any major change in this update. In addition, the server downtime will vary depending on your platform.

Deck Nine’s upcoming Life is Strange: True Colours is scheduled to launch on September 10, 2021, and its bonus story DLC: Wavelengths, featuring Steph from Life is Strange: Before the Storm will launch on September 30, 2021, while a first look trailer for the Wavelengths DLC will be unveiled later today.

However, Life is Strange: Remastered Collection has been delayed until early 2022. According to Deck Nine, they want to “alleviate any additional pressure on the [development] team by giving more time between the release of Life is Strange: True Colours and the Life is Strange: Remastered Collection.”

Deck Nine has stated that

The Life is Strange: True Colors Ultimate Edition still grants entitlement to the two Life is Strange Remastered Collection games, which will now be available on their new release date in early 2022.

This means that owners of the Ultimate Edition can rest easy.

The Life is Strange: Remastered Collection includes Life is Strange Remastered and its prequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm Remastered. Both games will be running on a newer engine and will feature graphical improvements, motion-captured performance (Life is Strange Remastered only), all Deluxe Edition content including outfits and bonus episodes.

Life is Strange: Remastered Collection will be releasing on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Stadia, and Nintendo Switch in 2022.

“DreamHack Beyond” concludes with 1.7 Million Viewing Hours

DreamHack, the immersive, gaming lifestyle experience where the gaming community comes to life, recently ended the FREE seven-day, interactive event DreamHack Beyond on July 31, 2021.

The hybrid festival and multiplayer game featured themed worlds, 20+ festival halls, game demos, and hourly tournaments (including Hearthstone and Rocket League), the range of added programming, activities, and gameplay including the inaugural DreamHack Battle of the Bands, Cosplay Competitions, Panels, Screenings, Speedrunning, Tabletop competitions and more.

In total, more than 45,000 fans registered to experience the event, with over 1.7 million viewing hours.

  • DreamHack Beyond realized 866,716 unique viewers across all of its channels on Twitch alone
  • Twitter saw 1.9 million engagements and 5.4 million impressions across the week

More Than 80% Gen Z and Millennials Play Video Games Now

Be it PC games or Console games, heck even the most popular type — Mobile Games, more people are gaming today than a decade ago. In the past year due to pandemic-induced lockdowns and people spending more time at home, more and more players picked up gaming as their primary form of entertainment or hobby. 

Today we are going to talk about a new study conducted by Newzoo which discusses how much millennials and Gen Z in 2021 love video and mobile games. Newzoo interviewed over 72,000 people in 33 markets for this study and the results were quite surprising. Let’s dive deeper into the study. 

Average Time Spent Playing Each Week

As per the study, the younger the generation the more time they spent on gaming. Gen Z’s and Millennials both spent approximately 7 hours on average each week while gaming. Where in the case of Gen X the time spent drops to just 4:25 Hours and for Baby Boomers, it drops significantly to just 2:30 Hours weekly.

Average Percent of Population Playing Games

Again a similar partner of reducing numbers is seen in the case of avg gaming population each generation. Around 81% of Gen Z gamers reported playing games in the past six months. Not far from Z’s, 77% of Millennials reported gaming in 2021. The number now follows a downward trend with Gen X reporting 60%, while the oldest group— Baby Boomers, 42% reported playing games in the past 6 months. 

While this is less engagement than younger generations, it is certainly significant nonetheless for the generation that is out of touch with technology. But why is engagement lower?

Other Modes of Entertainment

As pointed out by the study, the lower engagement for older generations is due to the group dedicating more leisure time to traditional forms of entertainment like Television, Movies, Outdoor Activities, Music, etc. Meanwhile, the younger generation (Gen Z and Millennials) spend more time on games than traditional pastimes.

These patterns also trickle down into the spending habits in-game. With the younger generation spending more money than the older generation. Roughly 69% of Gen Z and 70% of Millennial consumers reported spending money on games in the past six months vs. 52% and 29% for Gen X and Baby Boomers, respectively. 

Again the same pattern is visible in all gaming-related activities like following gaming-specific social media account, watch videos related to gaming, and discussing gaming with others. The younger generation is far more active in gaming when compared to the older generation.

Nodwin events are known for their laid-back atmosphere and a different take to casting and analysis, but the matches played at the recently concluded Valorant Conquerors Championship were as good and exciting as anywhere else.

At the regional qualifiers, which took place online, we saw Global Esports (GE) live up to the favorites tag and fight through the double-elimination bracket to secure their spot at the main event of the VCC. Last month, exciting headshots, multi-kills, and clutches pulled off by the likes of Ganesh “SkRossi” Gangadhar, Abhirup “Lightningfast” Choudhury, Bhavin “HellrangeR” Kotwani fired up viewers across South Asia. To commemorate their plays, Nodwin have created a fragmovie with some of the best plays from the Indian Qualifier #2.

In the Grand Finale of the IN Qualifier #2, teams Global Esports and XO make it to the former following a flawless run from the GE through the Upper Bracket while XO from the Lower. On August 8, both these teams contested in a Best of five affair to determine their fate towards a spot at the Valorant Conquerors Championship.

SkRossi and his ultimate on Jett further added misery to Team XO’s gameplan as he breezed past through Simar “psy” Sethi and his men to get the 12th round on the board for Global Esports. Despite Astra’s traps, SkRossi managed to dash through the same and find four to his name.

skillZ comes to the rescue as SkRossi finds three on Ascent

After skillZ forced Team XO out of the A-site following his ultimate on KillJoy, SkRossi quickly made the rotation towards the B-site in an attempt to hold their regional counterparts off-guard. Picking off Excali, GOPS and Ghost halted Team XO’s aggression as psy and Whimp23 were forced to save their weapons.

LightningFast secures Ascent for Global Esports

Abhirup “Lightningfast” Choudhury was able to convert a 1v2 situation to give Global Esports their first map win here in the Grand Finals of the IN Qualifier #2. Global Esports were successful in getting the Spike plant but were reduced to two players following their deaths to Excali. LightningFast and skillZ were the only players left as they triumphed over their Indian friends here over at Ascent.

KappA’s flank wins it big for Global Esports ft HellrangeR

Akshay “KappA” Sinkar and Bhavin “HellrangeR” Kotwani defied the limits as they pinched their opponents from left, right, and center. With KappA on the flank, he was able to pick off Excali and Ghost while HellrangeR did the honors as Global Esports picked up the lead on Icebox, 11-0.
