NaVi Defeat Heroic To Make Semis at PGL Antwerp Major

Natus Vincere punched their ticket to the Semi Finals of the PGL Antwerp Major with a hard fought victory over Heroic in the quarter finals. They completed the comeback after losing Inferno and being down 0-1.

Things looked shaky on Ancient as well but the trio of s1mple, electronic and b1t helped them to a close 16-14 win. Nuke was a cakewalk as they showed glimpses of 2021 again and shut the doubters up.

They will not take on ENCE in the semi finals tomorrow for a shot at the Grand Finals. The other semi final will be between FaZe Clan and Team Spirit.

MAP VETO

1. Heroic removed Dust2

2. Natus Vincere removed Vertigo

3. Heroic picked Inferno

4. Natus Vincere picked Ancient

5. Natus Vincere removed Overpass

6. Heroic removed Mirage

7. Nuke was left over

MAP 1 – Inferno

  • NaVi 10-16 Heroic
  • MAP 2 – Ancient
  • NaVi 16-14 Heroic
  • MAP 3 – Nuke
  • NaVi 16-8 Heroic

Heroic started the proceedings on their pick of Inferno but NaVi chose to start on the T side. They got off to a pistol win but the danes quickly shut them down with five of their own.

NaVi couldn’t string more than 2 rounds together, as Heroic had good reads throughout and stopped NaVi at 9-6.

After the switch NaVi looked in the driver’s seat winning 4 of the first 5. But heroic turned the gears, spearheaded by clutches from TeSeS first.

Then another from IGL cadiaN to secure match point.

They secured the map 16-10 with ease, as we moved to Ancient.

NaVi picked into Ancient, a map they hadnt lost since September 2021 and started on the T side. A player for big games, electronic stepped up massively for them on the offense. The CIS side won 5 of the first 7 rounds and were in prime position for a stomp. The tear didnt stop as they ended the half with a 9-6 scoreline, courtesy of a brilliant 1v3 from electronic in the dying embers.

But heroic had their own fiery T side, starting off with 5 on the trot before NaVi put up a defence. Being down 11-9, NaVi’s superstars showed up with s1mple, b1t and electronic helping them to 15-12. cadiaN and co. tried their best but at 15-14, they crumbled and lost 16-14 to go to  a third map.

With Nuke as the decider, it was all down to a map which was essentially a Bo1. NaVi started on the favoured CT side. NaVi took us back to 2021 with a demonstration of their insurmountable defence. electronic once again showed us why he’s considered a top 5 player as he helped NaVi to 12 CT rounds, racking up 24 kills on his own. s1mple wasn’t even needed as him and b1t put an end to every Heroic attempt.

The T side started with a pistol loss then a force buy win for NaVi as they sat 14-4 up.

The Danish side tired to mount somewhat of a comeback with 4 on the trot, but NaVi only needed two and they did their due diligence to close out Nuke 16-8.

Natus Vincere will play ENCE tomorrow in the semis of the PGL Antwerp Major to book a spot at a second consecutive Major Grand Final. Heroic go home in 5-8th position from PGL Antwerp Major alongside Ninjas in Pyjamas, FURIA and Copenhagen Flames and take home $35,000.

Group A

  • Team Valor 0-2 Enigma Gaming
  • Global Esports 1-2 Revenant Esports
  • Prime 5 2-0 Khumbu Esports

Group B

  • Orangutan 2-0 Exceeli Esports
  • Union Gaming 0-2 Full Power Gaming
  • Reckoning Esports 1-2 Velocity Gaming

Match 1: Orangutan 2-0 Exceeli Esports

With a strong start yesterday, Orangutan started the day on their map pick of Icebox and carried on the momentum of day 1 to day 2 winning the first half 10-2 on defense and converting it 13-3 win in the second half.

On Ascent, Exceeli’s map pick, Orangutan again dominated Exceeli as defense winning the half 10-2 and losing only the pistol and follow-up in the second half closing the game 13-4, winning the series and are now 2-0 in their group. Tesseract was the MVP for the series with 302 ACS.

Exceeli has a must-win game tomorrow against Full-power gaming, if they lose they’d fail to qualify for the Main event Lan.

Match 2: Team Valor 0-2 Enigma

Enigma utterly dominated the Team Valor on their map pick of Split winning the first half 11-1 and closing it 13-1.

On the second map, Icebox, Team Valor’s map pick, Enigma managed to suppress Valor’s attack and limited them to only 4 rounds, and on offense didn’t drop a single round to win the series 2-0. Excali again put up a 315 ACS performance along with Rvk’s 305 to easily close out the series.

Enigma is 2-0 in their group while Team Valor is 0-2 putting them in a stressful position where they have an elimination game tomorrow against Khumbu who themselves are 0-2.

Match 3: Global Esports 1-2 Revenant Esports

The third game of the day, between Global and Revenant, was one of the most exciting and thrilling games to watch, Map 1, Haven, Global’s Map pick worked out in the favor of Revenant with Revenant winning the map 13-4 on the back of Knightrider’s Jett with 23 kills and 350 ACS.

While Revenant’s map pick of Split was taken by Global Esports, with global winning it 13-6 with Skrossi and skillz being the top performers.

The decider fracture was a close affair too with both teams being neck to neck and splitting the half 7-5 in the favor of Global Esports. Though despite the 9-5 deficit, on defense Revenant managed to close out the map 13-11 and win the series 2-1, pulling an upset over Global eSports.KnightRider’s combined ACS of 255 and 54 kills were the force behind the upset

Global eSports are now 1-1 while Revenant are 2-0 in the group and if they win tomorrow’s match they are surely qualifying for main event LAN.

Match 4: Prime 5 2-0 Khumbu Esports

Both of these teams had lost their opening matches and needed to bounce back today, with Bind as the opening map, being Khumbus map pick was a close affair in the first half splitting right in the middle 6-6, but then Prime 5, on the attack, won the game 13-9.

The Second map was similar with the first half ending on 6-6, Though Prime 5 managed to close it out 13-8 on their defense. Asitte’s 243 combined ACS game was the MVP-worthy performance but most of the prime 5 showed up making it a combined effort.

Khumbu now faces tournament exit at 0-2 while Prime 5 bounces back after day 1 loss to be on 1-1.

Match 5: Union Gaming 0-2 Full Power Gaming

Despite the adversities and worsening conditions in Sri Lanka, Union Gaming showed up for the match, kudos to them, though the results weren’t in their favor, they manage to put up a great effort against Full power gaming.

On the first map, Union’s pick of Split had a 6-6 first half and despite a fighting effort on their attack, Union lost the game 9-13.

Fullpower proved why they pick bind by winning the half 9-3 and closing it out 13-6 on the attack in the second half. Storax ends the match on a combined ACS of 336 and drops a 50 bomb in just 2 maps.

With this victory Full power is 1-1 in the group, Union is still fighting and would face reckoning tomorrow to stay in the running for LAN main event.

Match 6: Reckoning Esports 1-2  Velocity Gaming

After the thriller that was Revenant vs GE, no one expected such an insanely close game between reckoning and VLT, Though both teams had won their opening matches VLT came into the game as favorites to win by many.

Haven, Velocity gaming’s pick, had both teams fighting tooth and nail with both teams winning 6 rounds each in the first half and second, and became the first game of the Group stage to continue till Overtime, In OT, both teams managed to keep their poise but Reckoning managed to close the game 17-15 in the both OT.

On the backfoot and Reckoning’s map pick, it was clear that VLT aren’t the ones to back down, and despite a 7-5 deficit on defense in the first half, managed to close out the game 13-9 on the backs of spectacular performances from Deathmaker and mw1.

The decider Icebox was expected to be a close one, given both maps were so neck and neck but VLT being VLT, on defense won the first half 9-3, and only lost 2 rounds in the second half to win the game 13-5 and closing the series 2-1. Deathmaker was the MVP of the series with a 303 ACS,76 kill series.

With this Velocity Gaming are now 2-0 in the group they’d face orangutan and whoever wins qualifies for the main event LAN. Whilst Reckoning is 1-1 and would try to win the remaining games.

Day 2 of the Skyesports Champions series group stage thus concluded with Enigma and Orangutan topping their respective groups with 2-0, While Revenant and VLT came in on 2nd positions with 2-0 but less Round Delta, Khumbu, Team Valor, Union gaming, and Exceeli esports are on the bottom and face tournament elimination if they lose tomorrow.

The day sure had some thrillers and would I hope it continues to be so for the rest of the three days as well. For now, another exciting day of Valorant comes to an end, Good luck to the teams for their matches tomorrow.

FaZe Beat NiP to Qualify for PGL Antwerp Major Semis

FaZe Clan defeated Ninjasin Pyjamas in their quarter final matchup at PGL Antwerp 2-1 to advance to the semi finals. NiP were knocked out of the quarters of a Major for the second major running, but they exceeded expectations by reaching the top 8 even without star AWPer Nicolai ‘dev1ce’ Reedtz.

It took FaZe 3 maps to get through, but they did it in style with 13 rounds in a row on Inferno to send NiP home. They will now play the winner of Team Spirit vs FURIA on Saturday.

MAP VETO

  1. FaZe removed Vertigo
  2. NIP removed Dust2
  3. FaZe picked Nuke
  4. NIP picked Overpass
  5. NIP removed Mirage
  6. FaZe removed Ancient
  7. Inferno was left over

MAP 1 – NUKE

FaZe Clan 16-10 Ninjas in Pyjamas

MAP 2 – Overpass

FaZe Clan 13-16 Ninjas in Pyjamas

MAP 3 – Inferno

FaZe Clan 16-8 Ninjas in Pyjamas

NiP kicked off the proceedings on Nuke on the CT side as it was the pick of FaZe. The swedes were off to a flier, going up 5-0 before karrigan and co. had an answer. The old guard of rain and karrigan stepped up on the T side to help FaZe to a score of 4-6, as ropz found it difficult to get going on the T side. Plopski and es3tag helped NiP restrict FaZe to just 6 T rounds as they went to the T side with a 9-6 lead.

The fireworks soon stopped as all of FaZe stepped up alongside the old boys as NiP only got 1 T round, and FaZe proved why they picked Nuke, shutting down NiP and taking the map 16-10, with karrigan having brilliant reads and well timed pushes to boot.

On NiP’s pick of overpass, they started off well on the T side winning 5 of the first 7 after the pistol loss. The whole half went back and forth with both sides having their moments, but neither getting control of the game. NiP ended the half with 7 rounds as they moved to the favoured CT side.

FaZe won the pistol but lost the next 3 to sit at 9-10, before Twistszz powered them to an 11-10 score with a 10hp 1v2 clutch.

But powered by brollan, NiP won 6 of the last 7 rounds to stop faze at 13 rounds and win 16-13 to take us to Inferno.

On the GOAT deciding map of Inferno, NiP got off to a good start yet again, after FaZe gifted them a 4v2 on the force buy in the second round. After an even 3-3 start, NiP went up 8-3 and looked set for double digits on the CT side. But the young guns showed up for FaZe when the old guard couldnt, and they strung together 4 rounds to end the half, including a brilliant 2v5 between ropz and broky in the 15th.

The T side from NiP looked toothless and FaZe started with aggression and disrespect. Karrigan called the shots with ease as his troops put up an insurmountable defence to win 9 CT rounds, and 13 rounds in a row in total to send NiP packing and make it to the semi finals of PGL Major Antwerp.

FaZe will now play the winner of Team Spirit vs FURIA on saturday for a spot at the Grand Finals of the Major. NiP go home in 5-8th position with $35,000 in prize money.

The second match of Group A had Global Esports, The tournament favorite taking on Team Valor, and Global Esport showed us just why they are the tournament favorite by dominating Team Valor winning their map pick of Haven 13-4 losing just 4 rounds in their defense and without dropping a single round in attack. Lightiningfast was an absolute demon with an ACS of 429, a K/D of 3.0, and dropping 27 kills.

Match 4: Reckoning eSports 2-0 Exceeli Esports

For the second match of Group B, Reckoning Esports took on Exceeli Esports with the first map taking us on Ascent, Being Reckoning’s map pick, the first half of the map was pretty back and forth, and on defense, Reckoning manage to edge out their opponents 7-5 winning the first half by one round, but the second half was a different picture, Reckoning on attacking only lost 3 rounds winning the map 13-8.

The second map was a different picture altogether, starting on attack Reckoning managed to accumulate 10 rounds only dropping 2 rounds, and manage to close it at 13-2 in the second half. BADlove was the main man of the game with an average ACS of 285.

Match 5: Enigma Gaming 2-1 Prime 5

But Prime 5 came back strong on the second map of their choice, Icebox, having a close first half with 7-5 on defense and closing it 13-7 on the attack with Hatz battle-sage and tr1ck’s Jett.

It seemed that the third map would be a pretty close affair contrary to that, Enigma Gaming dominated prime 5 on fracture dropping just 2 rounds and winning the map 13-2 and the series 2-1 with Excali closing out the series with a combined ACS of 340 and a 1.7 K/D.

Match 6: Velocity gaming 2-0  Union Gaming

The last match of the day saw Velocity gaming taking on Union Gaming, despite a good back and forth few rounds, Velocity Gaming managed to secure 8 rounds and won the half 8-4. On defense, despite losing the pistols Velocity Gaming managed to close the map 13-7 with Deathmaker as Chamber putting in a spectacular 365 ACS, 26 kill performance.

The second map, Haven, being velocity gaming’s map pick, had velocity gaming on defense. The first half had velocity only losing 3 rounds to closing the half 9-3, and despite losing the pistols maintained their poise to close the match 13-4 on the back of strong performance from mw1, DeathMaker, and Amaterasu.

Velocity won the series 2-0 with Deathmaker having an average ACS of 307 and 42 kills. Velocity has yet again proved why they are one of the strongest teams in the region and favorites to win it all.

All the winning teams made their opening statements and established themselves in the tournament. While teams that lost would try their best tomorrow as this is not the end for them, an advantage of the round-robin format.
