Skyesports Champions Series Group stage Day 5 recap

0

Day 5 of the Skyesports Champions Series had a few of the most important valorant matches of all the tournament. With elimination and qualification in the picture, most teams needed the wins and brought their best performances today.

Day 5 SCS Group Stage summary

Group A

  • Team Valor 2-0 Revenant Esports
  • Khumbu Esports 0-2 Global Esports

Group B

  • Velocity Gaming 2-0 Exceeli Esports
  • Reckoning Esports 0-2 Full Power Gaming
  • Orangutan 2-0 Union Gaming

Match 1: Team Valor 2-0 Revenant Esports

Team Valor had a must-win game today, While Revenant had a final match and with a win would’ve solidified their position in the group and could’ve been a contestant for the top seed in the group. The valorant match showed the resilience of both the teams and their fighting spirit.

On the first map of fracture, Revenant Esports’ pick had team Revenant on defense, but Valor managed to consistently find gaps in Revenants defense to close the first half 8-4, Revenant on their attack pulled something similar too and won that half 8-4 putting both teams on 12-12 at the end of regulation.

In OT after exchanging defense rounds in OT 1 and then attack rounds in OT 2, team valor managed to close it in the third OT

Team Valor’s Ascent saw team valor struggling to find any impact in attack only managing 2 rounds to close the half 10-2, but on their defense, they closed out Revenant’s attacks forcing OT again.

This time around, Team Valor managed to win both rounds in OT 1 closing the match with a 2-0 victory over Revenant, Paradox was the most impactful player with 304 ACS almost carrying Team Valor to victory. Because of the result, Revenant Gaming is now 3-2 and Team Valor has a chance of tieing this score if they win against Prime 5.

Match 2: Velocity Gaming 2-0 Exceeli Esports

Due to unforeseen circumstances and no way out, Exceeli had to surrender the match to Velocity. Velocity had already qualified and for them, the match was for seeding.

Match 3: Reckoning Esports 0-2 Full Power Gaming

This was arguably one of the most anticipated and crucial matches of the day with the match’s result heavily impacting the qualifying team for the Chennai LAN.

The game started on Full Power gaming’s map pick of Split, Full power Gaming managed to penetrate Reckoning Gaming’s defense over and over again winning the half 9-3 and on the defense, they managed to contain Reckoning’s attack to win the game 13-5.

On Haven, Reckoning’s choice, Full Power managed to scrape 5 rounds on their defense losing the half 5-7 But went on to attack with utter dominance only letting Reckoning defuse the spike once and winning the match 13-8, k1Ng’s 285 combined ACS on Neon was the best performance of the match.

With this win, Full power Gaming along with Orangutan and Velocity become the three teams that qualify for Chennai LAN whilst Reckoning despite a wonderful effort failed to qualify.

Match 4: Khumbu Esports 0-2 Global Esports

Global Esports needed a compulsory win and if they wouldn’t have they would be out of the tournament for sure. While Khumbu was already out, They had a chance to pull a major upset and end the tournament on a high.

For the match, Khumbu chose to attack their map choice and despite a good 3-2 start only managed to get 1 more round out of the remaining 7 rounds losing the half 4-8, Now GE’s attack was impressive given they played without a duelist. GE did not drop a single round and eventually won the map 13-4.

Now onto GE’s fracture, Global with the last map’s momentum managed to win 10 attack rounds eventually to close out the map 13-2 in the second half and the series 2-0. SkRossi managed to accumulate 37 kills with a combined ACS of 37 to be the MVP for GE.

Global Esports now have a strong chance to qualify with its decision depending on Team Valor and Prime 5’s game. While Khumbu plays Enigma tomorrow as their final game.

Match 5: Orangutan 2-0 Union Gaming

This match marked the final match of Group B, With Orangutan already qualified and Union Already out of contention, this was a seeding match.

The match started out on Icebox, With Union despite winning the pistol, losing the next round, and went on to lose all the following rounds to lose the game 1-13.

The second map also followed a similar storyline with union gaming only managing 2 attack rounds and 1 defense round to lose the map 3-13.

The 2-0 victory over Union has put the orangutan in a strong position with 4-1 and is probably the first seed in group B over VLT.

After today only two matches remaining, Khumbu Esports vs Enigma gaming which doesn’t change much as it would be a seeding match for Enigma who is already probably the top seed of the tournament, while Khumbu has already lost all the other matches and would try to win the game as a consolation. While the Team Valor- Prime 5 match might change the qualifying teams of group A

Since all the matches of group B are already concluded Orangutan, Velocity Gaming, and Full Power Gaming are the three qualified teams for Chennai LAN. The Final seeding would probably be announced tomorrow. Congratulations to the qualified teams and good luck to the teams who play tomorrow. GGs.

FaZe Clan Win PGL Antwerp CSGO Major over NaVi

FaZe Clan defeated Natus Vincere in the Grand Final of PGL Antwerp Major to become the first International roster to win a CSGO Major Championship. Led by Karrigan and co. FaZe didn’t crumble like they did at Boston 4 years ago, and beat the reigning champions in 2 maps. rain, the only remaining member from the original FaZe CSGO roster of 2016, stepped up massively when his team needed him as he took NaVi to the cleaners and finished as the MVP of the Major.

MAP VETO

1. FaZe removed Mirage

2. Natus Vincere removed Vertigo

3. FaZe picked Inferno

4. Natus Vincere picked Nuke

5. Natus Vincere removed Overpass

6. FaZe removed Dust2

7. Ancient was left over

MAP 1 – Inferno (FaZe Clan 19-17 NaVi)

FaZe kicked us off on Inferno, a classic CSGO Major Grand Final map starting on the T side. Looking ready and raring to go, FaZe got off to the best of starts winning 8 rounds straight. Such was the dominance that electroNic, booombl4 and b1t were at 0 frags in the first 6 rounds.

The 9th round brought the first for NaVi thanks to a 3k from s1mple.

After the initial flurry, NaVi found their footing and won 5 of the last 7, but it was by no means satisfactory as FaZe ended the T side with a 10-5 lead.

The CT side start was just as good for FaZe as MVP contender rain pulled off a 1v2 clutch, with an ACE to give FaZe the 11th.

After being down 12-5, NaVi’ brought out the stratbook and won 5 in a row. After losing one, they won another 5 and had 2 match points at 15-13, courtesy of high impact fraggin from the rookie b1t and Perfecto in tandem.

IGL karrigan then stepped up with frags when they needed him as his 3k kept NaVi off 16 as the game went into OT.

karrigan and co. stepped up massively again in Overtime as they stopped NaVi to just 1 T round. After switching sides, FaZe showed their T side prowess again and a 1v2 from broky gave FaZe the map win 19-17 and a 1-0 lead in the Major Grand Final.

MAP 2 – Nuke (FaZe Clan 16-10 NaVi)

NaVi’s pick of Nuke started much like Inferno for them as FaZe’s CT setup dismantled the T advances. rain, the timeless fragger for FaZe Clan proved his worth yet again as he racked up 5 opening kills and 5 multi-kill rounds in the first 9.

He continued his tear with 18 frags on the CT side as FaZe stopped NaVi to 5 rounds at the end of the half as it ended  10-5 for FaZe.

After losing the pistol, b1t’s deagle 4k gave NaVi a string of 3 CT rounds, and another two after a round loss.

But with the money bottoming out, rain showed up yet again with opening kills in each round to dismantle NaV’s defence and give his side the MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP 16-10.

FIRST CSGO MAJOR FOR AN INTERNATIONAL ROSTER

rain and Karrigan, the old guard of FaZe put the Boston demon’s to bed as they became the first ever international roster (language wise) to win a CSGO major. This was the first CSGO Major for all members of the roster, as broky became the first Latvian, ropz the first Estonian and Twistzz the first Canadian to win the most valuable CSGO trophy. They win $500,000 in prize money while NaVi, unable to defend their crown go home in 2nd with $250,000 in their pockets.

Skyesports Champions Series Group Stage Day 4 Recap

0

With Enigma from Group A and Velocity Gaming from Group B already qualified day 4 of the Skyesports Champions Series group Stage had decisive matches for either qualification or elimination. From Group A, Revenant Esports, Global Esports had a chance to qualify while prime 5 faced elimination. Similarly, Orangutan, Full Power Gaming, and Reckoning Esports had qualification chances in group B.

The day was full of great valorant and had so many exciting moments and matches, with most matches going the distance.

Summary of Day 4

Group A

Revenant Esports 2-0 Prime 5

Enigma Gaming 2-0 Global Esports

Group B

Orangutan 2-1 Reckoning Esports

Velocity Gaming 1-2 Full Power Gaming

Exceeli Esports 0-2 Union Gaming

Match 1: Orangutan 2-1 Reckoning Esports

The Day 4 of Skyesports Champions Series Group Stage started with a bang with Reckoning and Orangutan on 2-1, needing a single win to qualify for Chennai LAN and both teams brought their best foot forward for the same.

Orangutan’s pick of Ascent seemed one-sided for a while and it seemed orangutan would runaway at least with the first map given the strong 8-4 attack half. But it all changed on their defense where Reckoning kept finding holes in Orangutan’s defense managing to win 9 rounds closing the first map 13-11.

Orangutan now faced two demons, first being 0-1 down, secondly Bind being Reckoning’s map pick. Now on the backfoot they managed to bounce back by winning their defensive half against Reckoning 9-3, In the second half, it seemed as if the events of map 1 might repeat with Reckoning winning 3 of the 4 starting rounds, but Orangutan managed to contain it and win the map 13-6 on the attack.

Breeze, the decider was somewhat anti-climatic. It seemed Orangutan managed to bring the momentum from the previous map into the decider winning their defensive half 11-1 and only dropping a single round on attack, winning the map 13-2 and the game 2-1. Shooter and tesseract had combined ACS of 57 and 51 and they were the MVPs of the game.

With this win, Orangutan has most likely locked their place for the Chennai LAN, While Reckoning has to face Full Power tomorrow and win both the maps with ease in order to qualify, or else Full Power would qualify.

Match 2: Velocity Gaming 1-2 Full Power Gaming

The second match was more of a placement match for Velocity, but Full Power needed the win to solidify their position in the group, and full power managed to bring the heat to their opponents.

On Velocity gaming’s pick of fracture, Velocity showed their attack abilities with mw1 and Deathmaker penetrating Full Power’s Defense and winning the first half 8-4, but Full Power on attack showed absolute class, only dropping one round and winning the Vlt’s map pick 13-9.

Bind had an amazing first half, with both teams going at it and was back and forth but Full power won their map pick’s first half 7-5. Velocity though managed to completely read full power’s defense and without dropping a single round, won the game 13-7.

The decider chosen was Haven, and a decider it was with both teams exchanging blows one after another, with the first half split 6-6, In the second half, VLT couldn’t consistently win attacking round and only could win 3 rounds before losing the map 9-13, losing the series 1-2.

With this win full power not only did manage to upset one of the strongest teams in the competition but managed to solidify their position in the group and are in a strong position to qualify.

Match 3: Revenant Esports 2-0 Prime 5

The game was a really important game for Prime 5 as a loss here would mean elimination. While Revenant needed to win to ensure they are in a strong position to qualify.

The first map of Haven was anyone’s game with Revenant and Prime 5 exchanging 6 rounds in the first half But on Defense, Revenant managed to suppress prime 5’s attack to only 3 rounds closing the game 13-9.

On Split, Revenant on the attack had a hard time finding their groove only managing 4 rounds on attack. But they put up a resilient defense and closed up sites for prime 5’s attackers letting only 2 rounds of slip-ups win the map 13-10 and they closed the game 2-0. Scargod and KnightRider with ACS’s of 266 and 244 were MVPs of the game.

This loss was the dream-crusher for Prime 5’s LAN dream now that they are on 1-3, While Revenant is now 3-1 up and would play Valor tomorrow where a win would qualify them for the Chennai LAN.

Match 4: Enigma Gaming 2-0  Global Esports

This was the most hyped game of the day with both teams being absolute juggernauts, this was the first time since the Mumbai LAN that enigma faced Global and they were hungry for revenge. While Enigma already qualified, Global needed the win to improve their qualifying chances.

Enigma’s map pick took us to the elevated Ascent, and Enigma justified their choice by winning the attacking first half 8-4 despite being down 4-1 in the first 5 rounds. Now on the back foot, losing the opening 2 rounds of the half, Global esports showed their mental prowess and came back to tie the regulation rounds at 12-12.

After exchanging the rounds in the first OT, on the back of Excali’s strong battle sage, Enigma managed to close the first game 15-13.

GE’s choice of Split, Despite a back and forth few rounds, Global Esports managed to win the half 8-4 and only losing 2 rounds after a 2-2 start. The second half started with Enigma winning the pistol and the follow-up going 8-6 and eventually managing to slip through Global’s defense on A site to force overtime.

In OT, after winning their attack rounds in the first OT, Enigma managed to defend the first round of the second OT and closed it out on attack to win the second game in a similar fashion of 15-13, winning the match 2-0 completing the revenge. Excali yet again proved to be a strong force with 245 ACS, 49 kills, and 1.3 KD playing battle sage on the first map and raze on the second.

With this win, Enigma Gaming is now 4-0 up and most likely is the top seed of group A while Global Esports needs to win against Khumbu tomorrow to ensure they are in the running for Chennai LAN.

Match 5: Exceeli Esports 0-2  Union Gaming

This match though not affecting the overall qualification status for the teams was an interesting one for sure with both teams trying to win their first game.

Exceeli choosing Ascent started on the attack but barely managed to make a dent in the Union Gaming’s defense losing the first half 3-9, Union carried on the momentum to the second half and despite losing the opening pistol won the game 13-5.

Now onto Union’s map pick of Split, Union on attack ‘split’ open Exceeli’s defense won the first half 9-3. In the second half despite a pistol victory went on to lose 4 out of the 5 first rounds but they retained their calm and stopped the bleeding after 4 rounds winning the map 13-7, closing the match 2-0 on the back of ChromnZ 302 combined ACS raze.

Despite the win being a consolation one, it was still a win given the conditions Union played in. Congratulations to them on their first win.

This concludes day 4 which was one of the most exciting if not the most exciting day of Valorant in the Skyesports Champions Series group stage with the day starting with 2-1s and an exciting clash of titans going to double OT on both maps.

After today, Prime 5, Khumbu Esports, Union Gaming, and Exceeli are out of the running for Chennai LAN, while Orangutan and Revenant are most like the second set of teams qualifying for the Chennai LAN.

Tomorrow Reckoning, Full Power, and Global would have deciders for their qualification. While Team Valor faces Revenant’s might to stay in the race of LAN. Good luck to all the teams for their important day 5 matches and I am sure day 5 would be an absolute banger too. GGs.

DOTA2 TI11 To Be Held in Singapore as Announced by Valve

Valve announced the venue for the 11th edition of its premier DOTA2 event – The International. TI11 will be held in Singapore, as announced during the ESL One Stockholm Dota Major 2022. This will be the first time that The International will be held in Southeast Asia. Previously, China became the first Asia country to host The International when it hosted TI9 in 2019 in Shanghai.

During the Grand Finals of the first International LAN of 2022, ESL One Stockholm Major, Valve announced the venue for TI11 through an announcement video:

Valve had previously been teasing the location for TI11 through a series of tweets in the last few days, and today it was confirmed to be Singapore.

The International 11 will be held at Indoor Stadium and Suntec Arena in October 2022. The qualifying format will remain the same, with 12 teams receiving direct invites based on Dota 2 Pro Circuit points from the 2021-22 season while the remaining 6 spots will be filled by teams qualifying from regional qualifiers.

The International is one of the biggest esports events and certainly the biggest Dota2 event in the Pro circuit. The inaugural TI was held in Cologne, Germany but the following 6 were held in Seattle, USA. It moved to a new location each time since then – Vancouver, Canada in 2018, Shanghai, China in 2019, Bucharest Romania in 2021, and now Singapore in 2022.

The international 2020 had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, and TI10 was hosted in 2021. At the last moment, due to the rise in coronavirus infections at the venue, it was decided that fans wouldn’t be allowed and TI10 was held without a crowd.

TI10 was won by underdogs Team Spirit who claimed their first TI event. Favorites OG could not make it a three-peat, as they fell short, after winning it in 2018 and 2019. Team Spirit won $18,208,300 USD in prize money at TI11 and will be looking to defend their crown.

More details about TI11, Singapore will be made available as the event nears.

NaVi and FaZe Clan to Battle It Out At PGL Antwerp Major Grand Final

Natus Vincere beat ENCE 2-0 in the second semi-final at the PGL Antwerp Major to book their spot at yet another CSGO Major Grand final on the trot. They beat ENCE convincingly in just 2 maps, as the international roster never looked in contention, despite a close Dust2. NaVi had a slow start to 2022 but they have gotten better and better at every step of the way at the Major and will look to become the third team after fnatic and Astralis to win back to back CSGO Majors when they face FaZe Clan in the Grand Final tomorrow.

MAP VETO

  • ENCE removed Inferno
  • Natus Vincere removed Vertigo
  • ENCE picked Nuke
  • Natus Vincere picked Dust2
  • Natus Vincere removed Overpass
  • ENCE removed Ancient
  • Mirage was left over

MAP 1 – Nuke (NaVi 16-7 ENCE)

ENCE decided to test NaVi on Nuke, a map the international roster had an 87% win percentage on, and one which NaVi had fallen out of favor with as of late until they beat Heroic convincingly in the quarters.

NaVi’s CT start helped them get total control of the half, powered by incredible fragging from IGL boombl4 who had a 1.92 CT rating. ENCE could only find 4 rounds on the T side, 2 of them off the back of force buys but were never in control.

After switching sides, NaVi lost the pistol and conversions but once the full buys came out, they won all the subsequent rounds to breeze past ENCE 16-7 on Nuke. s1mple top fragged with 28 kills and a 1.75 rating, just behind boombl4’s 1.77.

MAP 2 – Dust2 (NaVi 16- ENCE)

Dust2 was the pick of NaVi and after a slight back and forth at the start, NaVi took control towards the end. s1mple hit almost every shot on the CT’s cross to B site, and ENCE were at a disadvantage almost every round. When they looked down, b1t stepped up with a 1v3 clutch to send ENCE packing again.

NaVi won the half 9-6 as they shifted to the CT side. On the defence they looked even better if that was possible. They went on a streak of 5 before they lost a round. It looked said and done at 15-7, but inspired calling from Snappi spurred ENCE to 5 rounds straight. He called B rushes for 2 rounds straight with great results, but 3rd time was the charm for NaVi as b1t and perfecto shut it down to send ENCE home 16-12 and win the series 2-0.

NaVi will now face FaZe Clan in the Grand Final of PGL Antwerp Major to try and defend their crown after winning PGL Stockholm 2021. The Bo3 Grand Final will take place at 23:30 IST tomorrow at the Sportspaleis Antwerp.

ENCE go home alongside Team Spirit in 3-4th place and win $70,000 in prize money.

Skyepsports Champions Series Group Stage Day 3 Recap

0

Day 3 of Skyesports Champions Series Group Stage had to be a crucial one for a lot of teams. With Team Valor, Khumbu esports, Union Gaming, and Exceeli esports played with elimination on the line, While Velocity, Enigma, Revenant, and Orangutan just needed a win to solidify their place for the Chennai Valorant LAN.

Group A

  • Team Valor 2-0 Khumbu Esports
  • Global Esports 2-0 Prime 5
  • Revenant Esports Enigma Gaming

Group B

  • Orangutan 0-2 Velocity Gaming
  • Full Power Gaming 2-0 Exceeli Esports
  • Reckoning Esports  Union Gaming

Match 1: Team Valor 2-0 Khumbu Esports.

The First match of the day was an elimination game with either team having their last chance to stay in the competition. Haven, Khumbu’s map pick had an interesting back and forth first half with both teams winning 6 rounds, But Team Valor showed defensive resilience and managed to suppress Khumbu’s attack and won the map 13-8.

On Ascent, Team Valor displayed their extent of map prep only dropping 2 rounds on the attack, and putting up a formidable defense winning the map 13-2 and the series 2-0. JN and Hoax were the most impactful players from Team Valor’s side and had a combined ACS of 293 and 263 respectively.

With this win, Valor is still hopeful to qualify whilst Khumbu is out of running for Chennai LAN.

Match 2: Orangutan 0-2 Velocity Gaming.

Both orangutan and velocity came to day 3 with huge momentum winning both their group stage matches, whilst Orangutan had dominant 2-0’s for both games, Velocity had a solid comeback victory yesterday to put them 2-0 in the group. The match was a clash of titans.

Velocity as their map pick chose to play Breeze, On attack, they only managed to scrape 5 rounds despite a solid 4-0 lead and lost the half 5-7 to the orangutan. But they managed to put up an unbreakable defensive wall in the second half, only losing the bonus round to win the game 13-8.

Most believed Orangutan would go with Icebox as their pick but they chose to go with Haven instead, given VLT had a shaky Haven in the tournament. Orangutan chose to attack and had trouble penetrating VLT’s defense only managing to win 5 rounds out of 12. But on defense, they had trouble suppressing VLT’s attack and lost the match 13-9. Deathmaker yet again was the most impactful on Chamber with a combined ACS of 271.

With this VLT is now locked in for LAN, and would now play with a lighter shoulder still trying to win for a better placement. While Orangutan would have to win 1 of the remaining 2 matches to qualify.

Match 3: Global Esports 2-0 Prime 5

After yesterday’s loss to Revenant, Global Esports must be quite shaken or so we believed, as the match proved to be something else. With both teams on 1-1, had to win to bring them closer to qualifying.

Global Esports chose fracture as their first map and made it look almost easy winning the first half 9-3 as the attacking team and closing it 13-4 on defense.

Coming to prime 5’s map pick Breeze, Global Esports managed to win their attacking half 11-1 spearheaded by SkRossi and skillZ and absolutely dominated prime 5, and easily closed out the map 13-1 winning the series 2-0, skillZ on the controller had an amazing impact with a combined ACS of 309.

After yesterday’s setback, this sure was a confident booster for Global Esports who are now 2-1. Prime 5 is still in the running but has a must-win tomorrow against Team Valor who themselves are facing the exit.

Match 4: Full Power Gaming 2-0 Exceeli Esports

Exceeli was facing tournament exit with this match and had to win the game while Full power was a cushion on 1-1.

On Split, Full Power managed to win the half 8-4 on attack despite a rocky start and had only 2 rounds out of the 6 first rounds. On defense, Full Power suppressed Exceeli’s attack despite losing the pistol round and closed the map 13-6

On the second map of haven, Full power with 1-0 up, managed to win the first half 10-2 on defense easily. Exceeli showed some resistance in the second half but eventually lost to Full power’s attack losing the map 5-13. With this Full Power Gaming won the series 2-0 with Abdur and Pokemon leading the team with 254 and 250 ACS.

With this loss, Exceeli would not be able to qualify for the LAN, while Full Power is 2-1 up just needing 1 win to qualify for the LAN.

Match 5: Reckoning Esports  Union Gaming

Union had a must-win game today against Reckoning and had to win to stay in the running for LAN while Reckoning had a buffer and could afford to lose. Hikka from enigma was standing in and IGL’ing for them.

With Bind being the first map, Union put up a great attack against reckonings defense but managed to accumulate only 6 rounds despite the 4-1 lead. On defense, though they were unable to adjust to reckonings attack and won only one defensive round losing the map 7-13.

With a must-win map for Union in order to push the series to a third map, Union could not hold reckoning’s attack losing the half 4-8. Union showed resilience and brought it back to win the half 8-4 and pushed the game to overtime at 12-12.

In OT, Union managed to win the game 14-12 and push the game to the third map.

On the decider, Haven, Despite a strong start union only manage to get 5 rounds losing the half 5-7, But reckoning managed to win the 13-7 elimination Union and win the series 2-1. Deadly and Harsh had a combined ACS of 303 and 299 respectively and it helped Reckoning win the game.

Union now cant qualify for the LAN while reckoning just needs one another to win to qualify for LAN.

Match 6: Revenant Esports 0-2  Enigma Gaming

The final match of the day was a battle for the no. 1 spot and LAN qualifying as both teams were 2-0 in their group with Revenant coming on day 3 after pulling an upset over Global Esports and having all eyes on them to bring the same heat to Enigma Gaming.

Enigma’s pick of Ascent had enigma on the attack, and attack they, did breaking Revenant’s defense again and again and winning the half 8-4, They carried on the momentum and won the next two rounds making the scoreline 10-4, but Revenant wasn’t done yet and managed to string together multiple rounds and after 7-12, bring the match to OT.

In OT, The teams exchanged rounds, with both teams winning attack rounds, but In the end, Enigma managed to nullify Revenant’s attack in the second OT winning the game 15-13.

With such a close game for map 1 on Enigma’s map pick everyone expected a third map in the series but Enigma put up an impenetrable defense wall and shut down every attack from Revenant without allowing a single round to Revenant and closed the whole map 13-1 only losing the second half pistol. FaZe Clan Make PGL Antwerp Major Finals Over Team Spirit

FaZe Clan became the first team to qualify for the Grand Final of PGL Antwerp Major with a marathon series win over Team Spirit in the semi-finals. The series took two maps but lasted almost as long as a full Bo3, courtesy of a 29-round Mirage and a mammoth 48-round Dust2 which went to triple overtime. This will be the first Major final for broky, ropz, and Twistzz while rain and Karrigan will be playing their second Major final, after losing out in the infamous Boston Major final to Cloud9. They will play the winner of ENCE vs NaVi in the Grand Finals.

MAP VETO

  • FaZe removed Vertigo
  • Spirit removed Inferno
  • FaZe picked Mirage
  • Spirit picked Dust2
  • Spirit removed Overpass
  • FaZe removed Ancient
  • Nuke was left over

MAP 1 – Mirage (FaZe Clan 16-13 Team Spirit)

FaZe chose their comfort pick of Mirage and started on the T side. After a pistol loss, things picked up for the international roster. A member of FaZe Clan since its inception, rain powered his side to a 7-3 scoreline, going 7-0 in opening duels. Supported well by his IGL karrigan, FaZe racked up 10 T rounds to be in the driver’s seat.

It was now the Russians’ turn on the offense, and it started with a pistol win and conversion down to chopper’s good reads. They almost leveled the playing field but once the guns came out, FaZe were up 13-8.

Karrigan pulled out his A-game and won out a clean 1v3, which spurred FaZe on but rival AWPer degster, one of the candidates for MVP of PGL Antwerp, showed up in more ways than one as he secured a 1v2 on the B site, then a 1v1 on the A site to help his side get to within an almost touching distance of FaZe.

But a last-second defuse on the back of a 1v2 from ropz, helped FaZe to a 16-13 win on their pick.

MAP 2 – Dust2 (FaZe Clan 25-23 Team Spirit)

If Mirage was a cutthroat affair, Dust2 was on another level. Spirit started on the T side but it was FaZe who had a fiery start as they went up 4-1 and then 7-3. But a 2v4 in the 11th round, courtesy of an ace from magixx helped the Russians stabilize and secure a 6-9 half.

After switching sides, FaZe lost the pistol but won the subsequent 3 rounds as the score read 12-8 and it looked like karrigan and co. would run away with it. But led by chopper in frags and in calls, Team Spirit went on a streak of 6 to go up 14-12. FaZe managed to win the last 2 rounds as spirit’s economy shattered and the game went into OT.

A back and forth affair continued in Overtime, with both teams having strong CT sides in the first OT, each going 2-1 to go to a second OT.

The second one was much the same, and despite Spirit having map points in regulation and each of the first 2 OTs they couldnt close it out.

FaZe fell short in the third OT with only 1 T round win, and it seemed they would lose the game as an INSANE 1v4 from magixx pushed Spirit to a 23-22 lead.

But they bounced back on the CT side, clean sweeping the CIS side as karrigan KNIFED degster to take his side to yet another Major final.

FaZe will now play in their second CSGO Major Grand Final as an org. The last time left a bitter taste in their mouth as they lost to Cloud9 at the ELEAGUE Boston CSGO Major in 2018. They will play the winner of ENCE vs NaVi in the Grand finals tomorrow.

Spirit go home in 3-4th position and take $70,000 in prize money.

Fnatic bench ALEX and poizon, to undergo roster overhaul

0

The Swedish Organization is yet to enter yet another roster overhaul since they went  international in August 2021.

Fnatic on their Twitter handle have announced the benching of their IGL Alex “ALEX” McMeekin and AWPer Valentin “poizon” Vasilev from their active CS:GO division while Peppe ‘Peppzor’ Borak who was promoted from their Rising squad will join back the same.

After falling out in the 12th-14th place at the PGL Antwerp’s European Regional Major Ranking tournament, Fnatic have been forced back to the drawing board as the Swedish side have now decided to e-shuffle their roster in a bid to crawl back on to the top.

ALEX and William “mezii” Merriman were the first duo to have featured in Fnatic’s new international look replacing Maikil “Golden” Selim  and Jesper “JW” Wecksell back in August’21. Soon it was Jack “Jackinho” Ström Mattsson who was shown the door, paving the way for Owen “smooya” Butterfield with whom the Brit-Swedish lineup were able to take home the DreamHack Open November 2021 championship home.

But in the awe of the PGL Major Antwerp Qualifiers, Fnatic decided to bench smooya and bring in Valentin “poizon” Vasilev and Peppe ‘Peppzor’ Borak for replacements before they bid farewell to Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin who now features in Ninjas in Pyjamas’ active lineup. In addition to getting knocked off PGL Antwerp’s RMR A event, Fnatic were unable to qualify for the forthcoming IEM Dallas through its qualifier, adding up to the woes of the team.

With ALEX, poizon moving on to the bench and Banjo back to the Rising division, Fnatic are down to two players, mezii and William “mezii” Merriman who now await for the rest of the squad to be rebuilt.

Fnatic would need to make their roster moves happen before they compete at the Pinnacle Cup Championship to be played in Lund, Sweden from June 8-11.

Fnatic CS:GO are now:

  • Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson
  • William “mezii” Merriman
  • Alex “ALEX” McMeekin (inactive)
  • Valentin “poizon” Vasilev (inactive)
  • Peppe ‘Peppzor’ Borak (joins back Fnatic Rising)
