Skyesports Champions Series (SCS) Teams Receive Traditional Welcome As They Land in Chennai

The playoffs for the Skyesports Champions Series (SCS) are all set to commence from May 31st, and the participating teams have already arrived in Chennai to get acquainted with the city’s atmosphere ahead of the tournament.

The SCS playoffs will essentially lead the road for the South Asian teams to attend the VCT Stage 2. The top two teams from the Skyesports Champions Series will be able to attend the VCT Stage Two APAC Challengers event.

While India has witnessed its fair share of prestigious Valorant tournaments in the past, none of them had seen its participating players being welcomed in a manner as unique as the city of Chennai greeted the participants of the Skyesports Valorant Series.

In fact, for the first time in the history of South Asian esports, players were greeted with garlands and traditional dances including Karkattam (Tamil ancient folk dance), Mayilattam (Peacock Dance), and Oyilattam (Dance of Grace), giving them a taste of the rich culture and heritage of the beautiful city of Chennai.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be welcoming South Asia’s best esports athletes to Chennai,” Shiva Nandy, the CEO and founder of Skyesports, said. “The state of Tamil Nadu is one of the oldest civilizations in the world and is rich with culture and heritage. Skyesports is headquartered in Chennai and we hold this very close to our heart. I am glad we

were able to give the athletes a taste of the culture by welcoming them in a traditional fashion with popular regional dance styles.”

On top of this, Skyesports has also put up more than 12 billboards across Chennai to create hype for the upcoming SCS and give some additional recognition to the participating teams and their players.

The playoffs for the Skyesports Champions Series are set to kick off from May 31 and will continue until June 5. The event will see six of the best South Asian Valorant teams – Enigma Gaming, Global Esports,

Revenant Esports, Orangutan Gaming, Velocity Gaming, and Full Power Gaming – battle it out in a double-elimination bracket for a shot at the VCT Stage 2 APAC Challengers.

Natus Vincere bench Boombl4

Natus Vincere on their blog website have announced the exclusion of Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov from their active CS:GO division citing hardships faced due to Boombl4’s nationality and due to the latter paying taxes to the Russian Federation, which indeed triggers “high reputational risks for the club”. The CIS club did mention that the benching of Boombl4 is not a result of his performances across the recent tournaments.

“We are not going to work with people who live in Russia and who pay taxes to the Russian Federation,” said Yevhen Zolotarov, CEO Natus Vincere in a press release as he hopes “that the Russia-based players are going to relocate.” The context behind this roster update is the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict which has yet to determine the status of the said political fiasco.

Under Boombl4, Natus Vincere bagged their first-ever Major Championship in Stockholm, Sweden hosted by PGL which followed their previous successful runs at the ESL Pro League Season 14 alongside the prestigious Intel Grand Slam title which scooped them total prize money of USD 1,000,000. Boombl4’s most recent appearance under Na’Vi’s banner was at the recently concluded PGL Antwerp 2022 major where they were denied yet another major title by FaZe Clan.

With the exit of Boombl4, Natus Vincere will soon announce their lineup for the forthcoming BLAST, Premier Spring Final, as suggested on their website.

Natus Vincere are now:

  • Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev
  • Denis “electroNic” Sharipov
  • Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy
  • Valerii “b1t” Vakhovskyi
  • Andrii “B1ad3” Horodenskyi (Head Coach)
  • Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhaylov  (Inactive)

0

After acquiring the Sova-Main Xeta from cloud 9, Last night T1 introduced the addition of Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom, Xeta’s ex-teammate from C9 Korea days.

Munchkin is a “Korean Jett” and was last active for Crazy Racoons and played alongside Xeta & Autumn in the C9 Korea days. The team was then disbanded given Riot ruling out a single organization owning multiple teams.

T1 Valorant Roster:

  • Joshua “Steel” Nissan (IGL)

  • Josh “pwny” VonGorder
  • Son “Xeta” Seon-ho

The team recently played and won the NSG summer championship Open 2022 with Dynamic standing in for the team but they won’t be able to compete in a Riot Sponsored event in 2022.

Acquiring a second Korean player does lead to questions if T1 plans to move to Korea, this, for now, remains just as speculation as nothing of such sorts is announced.

Will Mobile Esports Displace PC/Console Esports

The question arises with the arrival of cutting-edge technology that allows people to enjoy high-end video games on their portable devices, i.e., mobile phones. Various game developers have shifted their focus to designing video games for the audience playing on mobile phones. When playing on a mobile phone, you have the option of portability. On top of that, almost all games available on mobile devices are free. You have to pay a certain amount for most games on consoles and PC.

PC and Console (PlayStation, Xbox, etc.) have incredibly high-end games available due to their performance capacity. However, recent developments in the technology industry have also brought those high-end games to mobile phones. Mobile gaming presents a lot of choices.

From high-end games such as Call of Duty Mobile made specifically for mobile phones to best mobile casinos again specially made for mobile phones, the gaming industry has a lot to offer. This specific gaming area has witnessed a rapid increase in the gaming population. So, the question arises whether the limelight of Esports will shift from PC and Console to mobile.

Current Situation:

PC and Console gaming has been around for a long time. It is famous all around the world. Private organizations own teams and hire individuals that compete in international tournaments under their brand name. Just like other sports, there are teams in esports as well.

It is a full-fledged sport as well. Games like Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, League of Legends, etc., have matches at a global level. Cash prizes are also involved, and it garners attention from people worldwide. However, for people to usually play on a console and PC, they need to invest in specific devices. And it requires a decent amount of financial capability of an individual to play on such devices.

Esports requires practice. Players can only practice when they have access to particular devices. It constricts the number of people playing on such machines as not everyone has the financial means to engage in it. In contrast, mobile phones beat the PC and consoles in certain factors.

For example, mobile phones are comparatively affordable. A situation like this increases the reach of the market as more people can be a part of it. Mobile phones offer affordability with portability. In addition, with growing developments in the technological field, mobile phones also promise to not compromise on performance.

These factors make mobile gaming desirable for a lot of people. It proves as an opportunity to capitalize on evolution. If more people indulge in mobile gaming, more people would be interested in participating in tournaments which are nothing but Esports. However, this theory is not precisely the truth. There exist both sides of the argument. Some say that Mobile esports will displace PC and Console esports, the “traditional” esports.

Two sides

The growing popularity of mobile gaming has pledged to increase mobile esports’ reach. When the focus shifts from PC and console to mobile, the companies will also prioritize where the situation favors them. More players mean a more profitable place as more people consume their products. While some people believe that mobile esports will steal the limelight of PC and Console Esports, some say that the industry of mobile gaming is far from achieving that feat.

PC and consoles provide players to be more precise as the controls are more sophisticated when compared to mobile gaming. Games played on PC and console suit professional gaming. Mobile gaming does have good settings too, but the optimal conditions for a professional are available on platforms other than mobile devices only at the moment. Also, the screens of mobiles are comparatively small. Another reason why some believe esports on mobile phones will not displace PC and console esports.

Conclusion

While mobile esports is on the rise, there are more chances that PC and console esports will continue to exert their dominance as it is preferable for professionals. The optimal features and conditions of PC and consoles allow players to display their professional skills attained through hours and hours of gaming.

It will be interesting to see mobile esports become more prominent, but for now, it seems unlikely. The near future does hold potential for the shift in esports to occur.

OG bench niko

OG CS:GO has removed Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen from their active CS:GO division, the European mixture announced on their Twitter handle earlier today. Initially a plethora of reports which suggested these roster shuffles under the OG camp have now been confirmed. Nikolaj joined OG around March 2021 replacing Nathan “NBK-” Schmitt on the roster and was part of the rebuild alongside Shahar “flameZ” Shushan which the former underwent after their assembly back in 2019.

As mentioned above, OG are on the course of yet another overhaul after the team crashed out of the PGL Antwerp RMR European with a loss at the hands of Eternal Fire in their elimination match-up. Despite trading Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen for Nemanja “nexa” Isaković with G2 Esports, the team failed to meet their expectations which indeed forced them back to the drawing board in the bid of kicking off their post major campaign on a high.

With niko, OG secured the championship at the Spring Sweet Spring #2 Cup followed by a runner-up finish at the Intel Extreme Masters XVI – Summer where they were denied the cup by Gambit Esports (now Cloud9).

Sometimes good things must come to an end. I’ve been allowed to explore my options from OG and ready for a new adventure. I have absolutely loved every second of my time with what now feels like a second family and hope to see them center stage in the nearby future

niko

With the departure of niko and Valde from the roster, OG CS:GO are now:

  • Mateusz “mantuu” Wilczewski
  • Shahar “flameZ” Shushan
  • Nemanja “nexa” Isaković
  • Casper “ruggah” Due (Head Coach)
  • Alexander “kakafu” Szymanczyk (Assistant coach)
  • Valdemar “valde” Bjørn Vangså (Inactive)
  • Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen (Inactive)
