Skyesports Champions Series Chennai Lan Day 1 Recap

0

The playoffs for the Champions Series started today in Chennai on LAN. All the teams would want to win the opening games and get the momentum in their favor. The winners of today would face the top seeds of both groups tomorrow. While the losers would wait in the losers bracket to play the day after tomorrow.

Summary of Day 1 of Playoffs.

  • Velocity Gaming 2-0 Revenant eSports
  • Full Power Gaming 0-2 Global Esports

Match 1: Velocity Gaming 2-0 Revenant eSports

The map veto started with Revenant banning Icebox, VLT banning Split while Revenant picked Fracture, VLT picked Breeze, and after banning Haven and Bind respectively, Ascent was left as the decider. The first map of Fracture, had mirrored lineups, with both teams playing Sage, Neon, Brimstone, Breach, and the compulsory pick of Chamber.

Despite a shaky start with VLT unable to contain Revenant’s attack, losing 3 of the first 4 rounds, and despite the disadvantageous position managed to close the half 6-6. In the second half, it seemed that VLT had found the gaps in Revenant’s defense and only lost a single round, winning the map 13-7.

Breeze, saw Velocity running Chamber, Neon, Kay/O, Sova, and Viper while Revenant surprised everyone by picking Cypher and Chamber with Viper Kay/O and Sova. Revenant’s defense line-up was an innovative one, to say the least.

The map started with velocity making a defensive fortress, where they went on to win 6 rounds in a row, Revenant did manage to catch a few players off guard to win rounds but eventually, VLT went on to win the half 8-4

The second half started similar to map 1, despite losing the pistol round,  VLT managed to win the force and eventually closed the map 13-5 winning the game 2-0 The most important part was played by Manoj bhai’s presence who single-handedly carried the team to victory. With this velocity secured their first LAN victory

With the dominant win, VLT made a strong statement and must be fired up.  Revenant still has a chance to make a comeback by fighting in their way out of the lower brackets they put up a great fight and tried something and couldn’t make it work, They’d definitely come back stronger in the lower bracket.

Match 2: Full Power Gaming Global Esports

Full power gaming started the game by banning GE’s strongest map of Ascent, Global Esports banned Icebox, As their first map pick, Full Power Gaming chose to play Haven, and Global Esports chose to play Bind. After banning Fracture and Split respectively. Breeze becomes the decider by default.

On Haven, Both teams played with Chamber, double initiator, and Omen. With GE opting in for Sova and breach while Full Power Gaming played with Skye and breach. As for Duelists GE chose Raze while Full Power Gaming opted for Neon.

On attack, Full power gaming managed to penetrate Global’s defense and won 5 out of the first 6 rounds. Global though managed to contain the bleeding limiting the Full Power Gaming to just 7 rounds closing the half 7-5.

The second half started with teams exchanging the rounds to tie at 9-9, Global though managed to find an answer to Full power gaming’s defense winning 4 rounds in a row to close the game 13-9.

Bind saw both teams playing Breach, Brimstone, Chamber, and Raze, while GE opted for Sova, Full power Gaming chose to play Fade. The first half was somewhat one-sided as Global Esports on attack managed to win 5 out of the 7 first rounds but Full Power showed resistance and manage to close the half 5-7 in deficit.

Full Power now on the attack had a hard time finding their grove and lost 5 rounds in a row to put Global Esports on Map point. Once again, Full Power manage to push forth winning 6 rounds in a row to bring to map to the final round.

In the final round, Global managed to read Full Power well and defended the B site to win the map 13-11 and the game 2-0. SKRossi and LightiningFast were the top performers of the game

With this Global Esports now faces Orangutan tomorrow for the spot in Upper Finals. While Full Power now in the lower bracket would play the loser of the game. Similarly, Velocity would take on Enigma Gaming with the loser playing Revenant in the lower finals.

This concludes day 1 of the Skyesports Champions Series Playoffs. Despite the 2-0’s we saw, both matches delivered as they expected to, and had some hype moments. Just like today, tomorrow would be another exciting day of Valorant for South Asia with the action starting with Show matches at 2 PM and the upper bracket semifinals starting at 5 PM.

Skyesports Champions Series’ official music video, South Asia Arise, ft. SKRossi, Antidote, and DM launched

Ahead of the Skyesports Champions Series Playoffs – a road to VCT Stage 2 event from May 31, Skyesports has released the official music video titled South Asia Arise featuring VALORANT stars: Global Esports’ SKRossi, Velocity Gaming’s Deathmaker, Enigma Gaming’s Antidote, and Revenant Esports’ Scargod. The video can be viewed here

South Asia Arise is a film by Global Esports Studios, produced by Skyesports, directed by Mohit Israney, with music from Karan Kanchan. After a disappointing Stage 1 of the VCT, where the South Asian teams of Global Esports and Velocity Gaming fell in the early stages, South Asia Arise shows as the teams let go of that weight, shatter the jail of their past result, and move forward to conquering in the VCT Stage 2.

Both Global Esports and Enigma Gaming are competing in the playoffs for a shot at making it to the APAC Challengers. Enigma and Revenant, on the other hand, will be vying to make it to Challengers for the first time.

Shiva Nandy, the CEO and founder of Skyesports, said, “Our goal with the SCS is to create a benchmark for South Asian esports and the South Asia Arise music video is just one of the many things we have planned. I would like to thank Global Esports Studios who have a done fantastic job on creating a truly goosebumps inducing video as we head into the SCS Playoffs. I can’t wait to show fans the other surprises we have in store and also unveil the stage we have built here in Chennai.”

The playoffs for the Skyesports Champions Series (SCS) are scheduled to take place from May 31 to June 5 with six of South Asia’s best VALORANT teams competing for a share of the $30,000 prize pool and two slots to the VCT Stage 2 APAC Challengers. These are Global Esports, Enigma Gaming, Velocity Gaming, Revenant Esports, Orangutan, and Full Power Gaming.

The SCS Playoffs are taking place in Chennai, India in front of a live audience. The six teams will lock horns in a double-elimination bracket to decide who will claim the coveted title of South Asian champion.

Valorant: The Current Kings Of South Asia

As we know the group stage of the Skyesports Champions Series concluded and we got the first set of matches and an overall look at the competition. We might not have a clear winner for this tournament but it’d be a great week of South Asian Valorant and that’s for sure.

Let’s look at the teams one by one, to begin with, let’s start with The first seed and the undefeated team of Group A, Enigma Gaming.

Enigma Gaming currently is supposedly one of the strongest teams in South Asian Valorant.

The team is currently coached by the german Lukas “YB” Groning and he seems to have a great impact on the team’s performance.

The team is led by Sabyasachi “Antidote” Bose who usually plays a support role in the team and has been playing controller for the team. Akram “Rawfiul” Virani, is the primary operator for the team usually playing Chamber and Jett. Karan “excali” Mhaswadkar, is the Raze main for the team and also playing support agent when the team plays Jett as the duelist.

Rishi “RvK” Vijayakumar is the team’s Flex/Sova. While Tejas “Rexy” Kotain plays support. Enigma’s best quality has to be its flexibility and adaptability and they always manage to close out maps from a critical position, They surely are the contenders for the trophy and would make a great South Asian representative.

Orangutan is like the new heavyweight in town, They are an Indian-based Multi-Asian roster and have absolutely dominated the RoSA qualifiers and won without dropping a single map.

In the group stage, they managed to win all their games except for VLT where they dwindled but I know for sure they’d not make the same mistakes again.

The Ape army has Pakistan’s Mustafa “shooteR” Kamal, their main duelist, who is one of the most impressive young talents from South Asia. He always manages to find the impact on the server. Vibhor “Vibhorr” Vaid is the controller of the team and has some impressive rounds, to say the least, Vibhorr was one of the most impactful players for Velocity Gaming in VCT APAC 1.

Pradeep “Ghost” Bhatia is the team’s flex and he does the job well, While Jon Michael “tesseract” Piga is Ape Army’s Sova main and one of the most impressive Sova’s in the tournament. He is a clutch player and a very resourceful sova, to say the least.

The team’s rounded by the Korean Sentinel Yang “Persia” Zi-on, who is a great site anchor for the team. With such an impressive line-up and one of the first and most successful multi-Asian rosters, Orangutan surely is going to be a force to be reckoned with on LAN.

Coming to the second seed of Group A, Global Esports is a household name, and consists of the face of South Asian valorant in SkRossi, Along with Velocity gaming, they were the last season’s representative for South Asia. Despite the 3-2 run in the group stage, GE still is one of the top three teams in the region along with VLT and Enigma Gaming.

The team brought in Damwon Gaming’s coach Hong “Eraser” Chang-Pyo, With Bhavin “HellRanger” Kotwani leading the team as a flex player. The team seems to have a great start to all its games and has amazing strategies. Jayanth “skillZ” Ramesh, plays the controller and is a site anchor and usually plays a real key in winning the rounds, Akshay “Kappa” Sinkar is the in-house Sova main for the team and really plays the role to the most.

While Abhirup “LightiningFast” Chaudhary is the secondary duelist/Support for the team the main duelist and currently Chamber/Jett main is Ganesh “SkRossi” Gangadhar, a man who needs no introduction as he is one of the most adored South Asian players there are. Pranav “Kohliii” Kohli is the sixth man for the team and usually plays support.

Global Esports is still a favorite for many and has a large supportive fan base and it would not be wrong to say that most fans would love to see them representing South Asia in APAC.

Now coming onto the second seat of Group B, The second team from the fabled Val-Classico, Velocity Gaming were the champions of the Valorant Conqueror Championship and the first seed from South Asia in last season’s VCT APAC challengers.

VLT is a force to be reckoned with, led by  Anuj “Amaterasu” Sharma a flex player, and coached by Nikhil “Sieh” Bhansali. Amaterasu is a superb flex player with Tejas “rite2ace” Sawant and Sangnik “hellf” Roy to make the strongest Trio in South Asian Valorant. While rite2Ace plays controller and has some crazy clutches, hellf plays sentinel and can hold a site like a boss.

The roster is completed by Debajan “Deathmaker” Das and Mohit “mw1” Wakle play interchangeable roles playing duelists or Chamber.

The team only lost to Pakistan’s Full Power Gaming, in a close series. Still, Global Esports is one of the strongest contenders and with LAN experience has a great chance of winning it all representing South Asia in APAC.

Skyesports Champions Series Playoffs: Road to VCT APAC Qualifier

The night of 24th May concluded the group stage of the Skyesports Champions Series and we got the six teams that qualified for the LAN. These teams would now battle it out starting 31st May in order to get a chance to represent South Asia at Stage 2 VCT APAC challengers and face the might of SEA.

From Group A we have Engima Gaming, Global Esports, and Revenant esports making it to the playoffs with the last match of Team Valor and Prime 5 going Team Valor’s way putting GE above Revenant. Though we could’ve been able to watch Val Classico on the first day if it were another way around.

From Group B we have Orangutan, Velocity Gaming, and Full Power Gaming making it to the playoffs with Orangutan as the top seed.

The Playoffs would be played on LAN in Chennai and it would be a double-elimination bracket stage which means each team gets a buffer of one loss and can come back from it to make it to the finals.

With Enigma Gaming and Orangutan being the top seeds in the tournament they get one bye and would have to face the winner of the Opening matches between the 2nd seed and 3rd seed. The top seeds would only need 2 starting wins to make it to the grand finals while other teams would need to battle against these tops seed to get to it.

The matches on the first day are between Global Esports (2nd seed Group A) and Full Power Gaming (3rd seed Group B) while Velocity Gaming ( 2nd seed Group B) would take on

Revenant Esports (3rd seed Group A), With winners facing the top seeds while the losers would have to wait in the lower bracket and make a lower bracket run defeating all the other teams to make it out of the lower bracket.

This makes it important for the team to win since winning all of your games means you would have more time to prepare and relax while losing them means you would have to continuously play with a threat of elimination lurking around.

The winners of the Skyesports Champions series not only get a $15,000 cash prize along with the runner-up of the event represent the South Asian might in the stage 2 VCT APAC challengers, The winning team, like the last time APAC qualifier, would directly qualify to 2nd part of the tournament while the runner-ups have to earn the place in and battle against other teams to qualify. There haven’t been any dates regarding these yet.

The brackets and the playoffs seem to be anyone’s game at the moment with all of the teams in group B at 4-1 while from Group A despite Enigma Gaming going 5-0 they had difficulties facing the teams. I wish that all games are worth the hype and that all teams come with their best foot forward.

This would be a first-time LAN experience for a lot of players and there might be a chance we would see some LAN jitters from them but I hope that’s not the case and we get an amazing and hyped playoff with the crowd hyping the players and the players delivering.

We would keep posting as we get any and every information regarding the tournament so make sure to follow our socials and the website for more information. May the best team win and let the battle for the new kings of South Asia begin.

Skyesports set hospitality benchmark ahead of SCS Playoffs

Skyesports Champions Series (SCS) is around the corner, with the entire South Asian (SA) region preparing for the Valorant carnival. For those unaware, it’s only the biggest Valorant event for the region; a tournament that will decide the two representatives for the region at the VCT Stage 2 APAC Challengers for a shot at the two available spots at VCT Stage 2 Masters. And, by the looks of it, Skyesports is pulling out all stops to add to the player experience for the LAN-line* event. SCS is already setting benchmarks in terms of hospitality and the event hasn’t even begun.

Skyesports made sure the players receive the authentic regional treatment by welcoming the said stars participating in the event in true local fashion through garlands and cultural dance routines.

Greeting players with tradition is one of the hallmarks of our region and it is welcoming to see Skyesports continue the same. Skyesports have their headquarters in Chennai and it truly felt like someone welcoming the players into their homes, in this case, their home city.

Then, there is the update that Skyesports have provided teams with respective villas to ensure their preparations are up to the mark, keeping the code of secrecy intact and that they find maximum comfort in their temporary residence.

According to what we have seen and heard through social media, aspiring powerhouses Orangutan have been practicing from their villa itself, which goes to show how helpful the arrangements have been for the team.

The cherry on top was the billboards filled with players’ faces bustling with confidence. Everyone involved in the esports scene has long been waiting for the industry to go mainstream and while it has to a great extent, this serves as a good validation of the same for the PC esports industry that has always felt like a second child in the last few years.

SCS Billboard

SCS will begin on the 31st of May and we will know the fate of the six teams – Full Power Gaming, Orangutan, Velocity Gaming, Global Esports, Revenant Esports and Enigma Gaming – along with the two available slots by the 5th of June.

A lot is at stake as players fight to be the best. But, it seems the teams are not the only ones striving for greatness.

Note(*): LAN-line is a hybrid term that can be used to refer to an event that is a LAN but has elements similar to online events as well. The word has been used here to corroborate that while SCS is a LAN event, the matches will be played on online servers along with the fact that a team and one player will be in attendance from a remote location due to geopolitical issues.

Skyesports Champions Series (SCS) Teams Receive Traditional Welcome As They Land in Chennai

The playoffs for the Skyesports Champions Series (SCS) are all set to commence from May 31st, and the participating teams have already arrived in Chennai to get acquainted with the city’s atmosphere ahead of the tournament.

The SCS playoffs will essentially lead the road for the South Asian teams to attend the VCT Stage 2. The top two teams from the Skyesports Champions Series will be able to attend the VCT Stage Two APAC Challengers event.

While India has witnessed its fair share of prestigious Valorant tournaments in the past, none of them had seen its participating players being welcomed in a manner as unique as the city of Chennai greeted the participants of the Skyesports Valorant Series.

In fact, for the first time in the history of South Asian esports, players were greeted with garlands and traditional dances including Karkattam (Tamil ancient folk dance), Mayilattam (Peacock Dance), and Oyilattam (Dance of Grace), giving them a taste of the rich culture and heritage of the beautiful city of Chennai.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be welcoming South Asia’s best esports athletes to Chennai,” Shiva Nandy, the CEO and founder of Skyesports, said. “The state of Tamil Nadu is one of the oldest civilizations in the world and is rich with culture and heritage. Skyesports is headquartered in Chennai and we hold this very close to our heart. I am glad we

were able to give the athletes a taste of the culture by welcoming them in a traditional fashion with popular regional dance styles.”

On top of this, Skyesports has also put up more than 12 billboards across Chennai to create hype for the upcoming SCS and give some additional recognition to the participating teams and their players.

The playoffs for the Skyesports Champions Series are set to kick off from May 31 and will continue until June 5. The event will see six of the best South Asian Valorant teams – Enigma Gaming, Global Esports,

Revenant Esports, Orangutan Gaming, Velocity Gaming, and Full Power Gaming – battle it out in a double-elimination bracket for a shot at the VCT Stage 2 APAC Challengers.

Natus Vincere bench Boombl4

Natus Vincere on their blog website have announced the exclusion of Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov from their active CS:GO division citing hardships faced due to Boombl4’s nationality and due to the latter paying taxes to the Russian Federation, which indeed triggers “high reputational risks for the club”. The CIS club did mention that the benching of Boombl4 is not a result of his performances across the recent tournaments.

“We are not going to work with people who live in Russia and who pay taxes to the Russian Federation,” said Yevhen Zolotarov, CEO Natus Vincere in a press release as he hopes “that the Russia-based players are going to relocate.” The context behind this roster update is the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict which has yet to determine the status of the said political fiasco.

Under Boombl4, Natus Vincere bagged their first-ever Major Championship in Stockholm, Sweden hosted by PGL which followed their previous successful runs at the ESL Pro League Season 14 alongside the prestigious Intel Grand Slam title which scooped them total prize money of USD 1,000,000. Boombl4’s most recent appearance under Na’Vi’s banner was at the recently concluded PGL Antwerp 2022 major where they were denied yet another major title by FaZe Clan.

With the exit of Boombl4, Natus Vincere will soon announce their lineup for the forthcoming BLAST, Premier Spring Final, as suggested on their website.

Natus Vincere are now:

  • Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev
  • Denis “electroNic” Sharipov
  • Ilya “Perfecto” Zalutskiy
  • Valerii “b1t” Vakhovskyi
  • Andrii “B1ad3” Horodenskyi (Head Coach)
  • Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhaylov  (Inactive)
