Three Awesome Mobile Games Based on Classic Movies

Since the birth of gaming, movie ties-in have been in plentiful supply. One of the earliest and most famous was the E.T. video game for Atari. It was so bad many cartridges ended up in a landfill site in the desert, and it helped bring the industry to an economic crash. Yet it was not the first movie tie-in (That goes to the arcade title Death Race in 1972) and certainly did not set the standard. Some movie tie-in games have been downright awesome.

As the boundaries of media platforms blur, the tie-in is becoming a rare occurrence. According to the NME, fewer console games are being based on movie franchises with each year’s calendar. Yet in mobile gaming, the scene is alive and kicking.

Jurassic World: The Game

According to Mental Floss, the combined screen time of all the dinosaurs in the original Jurassic Park movie totaled just six minutes. This is astounding when you consider it birthed a huge franchise, which recently culminated in the Jurassic World reboot.

Inevitably, its own game would follow as director Steven Spielberg is no stranger to a gaming crossover. From Indiana Jones to Jaws, most of his blockbuster movies have several titles. Even cult favorite The Goonies has its own game on Buzz Bingo and shows how 80s nostalgia can be reinvented into a modern form for fans to play. We see this a lot in the slots world with many classic movies being revamped, and the slot using imagery and noises to heighten the experience.

Jurassic World involves building a theme park, as you would in a standard city builder. What makes it different is that as you progress, you can accumulate more dinosaurs, bringing in more revenue to your park. It has all the classic monsters you would expect from the movies from Velociraptors to the T-Rex, along with new hybrid cross breeds. Can you build a great new park, being successful where every other attempt has failed?

Alien: Blackout

Alien was a triumph of cinema. It reinvented two genres, splicing sci-fi with horror in a tense, atmospheric thriller. Few movies or games have ever been able to recreate this, with even the follow-up movie opting for all-out action instead of the creepy psychology of the former episode. One title that has come the closest is a mobile game.

This endeavor is a follow-on from the 2014 Alien: Isolation, also a game worthy of your attention. The title suggests it all, as you attempt to remain undetected while escaping a huge spacecraft. Puzzles are aplenty as you open and close doors and stay quiet enough to remain undetected. Tension increases with including a vintage computer interface that shows when a xenomorph is getting closer to your party.

Seven missions are available in total, all of which place you in some fairly heavy moral dilemmas. If any criticism can be leveled at the title, it is that the alien AI needs some work. However, you will be hard-pressed to find a more engaging mobile game.

Terminator Genisys: Future War

Terminator Genisys: Future War offers a fresh take on the franchise, using an MMO strategy format instead of the tried and tested route involving placing you in the shoes of Arnie and letting you shoot everything in sight. Set in the post-apocalyptic world of the Genisys movie, you can choose to join the human resistance or the robot hordes of Skynet.

Progression is done extremely well in this game. Whichever side you choose, work through skill and tech trees to improve your forces. Once your base is going, you can join the world map collecting more resources and gaining strategic influence.

Is Valorant Down?

0

Valorant faced a server issue last night since 11:30 AM GMT, where players could log in but were experiencing packet loss and default player cards and had trouble finding a match and switching skins, and if the player found the match, they could only choose from the 5 starting agents.

https://twitter.com/xorosenpai/status/1543969212418232320

Valorant, if you don’t know, is a 5v5 online tactical shooter and largely dependent on the internet. The software on your side uses your system to convert your information into data, send it over to a server, and get back data from the server about other players.

The game thus performs better at a lower ping which generally means the time taken for your data to reach the server and back is less.

A latency of 10ms translates to your data being sent to the server and back in 10ms. Usually, the lower the latency, the better your gaming experience.

The packet loss phenomenon can be from multiple sides, and it can be from the server, Incoming Packet Loss, from your system Outgoing Packet Loss.

While it doesn’t matter to players as both packet loss essentially affect your experience, it might help you distinguish if the issue is on your or server-side.

Last night, the issue did not affect the matchmaking but significantly impacted player profiles, meaning the server where the player profile is stored was not accessible.

Usually, the stored profile is a database; whenever you load the game, your system requests the data from the server and shows it on your system.

The matchmaking was initially affected, but it was addressed first and fixed. The profile visibility and agent issue, dependent on the player base server, was also resolved by 04:30 PM GMT.

Currently, there are no issues with the game; you can hop in the game and play without many problems.

Unlike the Cloudflare one, this issue was on Riot’s side, and thus, logging in was possible. Such problems occur in the case of a database, and companies all have steps to ensure the smooth performance of their app.

Some people did fear they had lost their skins, but such a thing won’t happen as Riot, and any other game developer would have multiple server backups and infrastructure in place to counter such hindrances.

Boombl4 Interview: More Details revealed on the divorce with his ex-wife

In a recent interview for Ryze, Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhaylov shed light on the happenings around his life leading up to the divorce with his wife, getting benched by his team Na’Vi followed by the drug allegations forced upon him. The interview was later translated by blix.gg.

Nearly a month ago, a series of Defamatory content including pictures and videos of former Natus Vincere in-game leader Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhaylov were made viral on Twitter previously posted by his ex-wife on a Telegram channel.

To our surprise there has been a lot to the divorce between Boombl4 and his wife which headlines the struggles and toxicity between the couple while their marriage lasted and past their contract was drafted.

In the interview, Boombl4 reveals the amount of money he spent on his wife, Lika which sums up to a total of 28 Million roughly $533,000. The money handled a part of her mortgage also supporting her life choices including epilation, depilation, her bills for the services from her beautician and raising her child from her ex-partner.

Boombl4 further tells us about the false case of domestic violence which was filed against him upon the missing tooth of her ex-wife.

“I was lying at home, watching a movie, and she comes out of the shower, and I see that she has no tooth. She acts surprised, runs back to the bathroom, looks for it. It was an implant. Afterward, she wrote a statement to the police about domestic violence.”

There were some pictures posted on social media with Russian tanks and flags in the background to which Boombl4 often denied uploading them on the internet but were eventually done by his ex-wife.

“These were my most difficult days mentally. With the photo with the flag, it was like this: she shows that she took this photo. I say, don’t you dare post this. ‘Why?’ I said that it might reflect badly on my career. Two weeks go by; she’s posting it. I ask why; there is no answer, only tears, but I swallow it.”

It all goes back to when Boombl4 had proposed to his girlfriend in front of a live audience on stage right after winning the PGL Stockholm Major 2021 and got married later although things got never better as there were reports which did suggest the 23-year-old Russian tactician and his wife planned on filing a divorce. The husband and wife had reportedly reconciled but it stands confirmed that the divorce went through.

Boombl4 had broken up with Lika right before the PGL Antwerp 2022 Major but had promised to her that he would propose to her in front of the crowd if he wins the cup.

The 23-year-old when asked about the drug usage allegations denied doing them as they left a negative block on his attitude.

“Well, you saw the tests that I did. You can track them online. She said I was a drug addict. But this is not so, I have a very negative attitude towards drugs. Yes, I tried it once: it was when we flew to Mexico on vacation. I really didn’t like this experience.”

The player regrets his doings and not listening to his friends and close ones. Kirill aims to hop back on the Tier 1 scene one day as he aims to achieve it by any means.

New thread of CSGO Source 2 Engine leaks surface on Twitter

0

Rumors around the much-awaited Source 2 engine in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive came across a serious development earlier today. TalkEsport in April 2021 had reported a potential leak that suggested some configuration files bearing the Source 2 tags and a newer version of the first-person tactical shooter.

A series of new pieces of evidence leading up to the much-anticipated release of Source 2 has indeed taken away the community by storm as dataminers @gabefollower and @AqualsMissing dug into the recent changes made by the developers. The current leak tells us about the maps which are being ported to the Source 2 engine.

As we can see, de_inferno has a new port ID which says de_inferno_s2, which strongly hints towards the arrival of Source 2, anytime soon.

Before making the data public, AqualsMissing had tweeted out a blurred version of his leak which too had the Source 2 strings at the end of the game files. A total of six maps have been disclosed to be added to the Source 2 iteration of the game.

They were later made public in order to clear out the air and make the developers aware of their security to rule out potential breach attempts in the future. Similarly, a lot of visual features are improved in the Source 2 engine and the lighting across the map is also much more dynamic in Source 2 than its previous counterpart.

Gabefollower and AqualsMissing further gave up the procedure by which they were able to surface the above files from the developer data which was made public on Twitter.

There have been countless rumors on the launch of Source 2 engine and it is often determined that Valve would commemorate their 10-year anniversary of their FPS title by revealing the same on August 21, 2022. During one of his livestreams, a fan asked WarOwl to try out the map editing tool ‘Hammer++’, which is a map editing tool that is primarily used for Source games like CSGO. To this comment, WarOwl replied that while he would love to do that, he’d be postponing that for a while.

“I’m honestly waiting for the Source update in August so that, oh I shouldn’t have said that, so that I can do Hammer 2 with a new map that I can make,” WarOwl said in his live stream.

GST Council may not increase the tax rate on online gaming, casinos to 28%

0

The GST Council adjourned the Group of Ministers on imposing 28% goods and services tax (GST) on casinos, online gaming, and lottery. The GoM formed under the orders of the GST Council is asked to submit the report on the issue after 15 days. Headed by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma, the members will review its proposals.

The GoM will review whether the tax should be increased on the total amount spent at a casino or the amount spent on gambling.

The GoM had suggested that in the case of online gaming, the whole procedure of online gaming should be taxable at 28% including the contest entry fee paid by the players for participating.

“There is no reconsideration of the 28% for online gaming and horse races. It was not even discussed in the council meeting. Following a request from Goa, we ought to add casinos” a member of the Group of Ministers said.

Currently, a GST of 18% is imposed on casinos, horse racing, and online games where no betting or gambling is involved. GST of 28% is imposed for online games involving betting or gambling. The GST Council adjourned the GoM’s proposal to levy GST at 28% on all these activities.

The gaming community didn’t take the news of increased GST rates with ease. Whereas, Industry experts also raised concerns about combing skill-based gaming and real-money gaming together. Games such as Ludo, Poker, and Rummy come under skill-based gaming whereas real money gaming has betting, gambling, and horse racing.

According to Inc42, the number of internet users in India is set to cross one billion in 2023 while the number of online gaming users in India is also expected to grow to around 657 million users in 2025. The Indian online gaming industry is expected to grow at a fast pace. Although adding more tax can come as a setback for the industry.

FaZe Clan kicked out Cented for using racial slur

0

This is not the first time for FaZe Clan. The American esports organization banned its members several times in the past for using racial slurs. This time the famous Fortnite streamer Evan “Cented” Barron who streamed for FaZe Clan got kicked out by the organization for using hate speech during a live stream.

In the live stream, Cented joined a voice chat lobby and used the n-word to greet the other players within that lobby. This was quite surprising to the players. After that FaZe Clan officially declared that they have permanently removed Cented from the organization.

Cented has also tweeted his version:

First and foremost, I am sorry. Not sorry I was exposed, but sorry because I should’ve known better. I can’t hide behind my age or cluelessness for leaving a word like that in my vocabulary. It shouldn’t be in my vocabulary at all. As an adult, I should know better. I had all the information in front of me for knowing better and still chose to act wrongly. For that, I am sorry.

Cented

Cented joined FaZe Clan in March 2021 and before that, he played for Team Liquid. He was quite active with his Fortnite stream and was one of the most popular Fortnite personalities from North America.

FaZe Clan’s decision is meticulous as hate speeches are rising in the community. In addition, it is unclear if Epic Games will also impose any penalty on him. However, Cented hasn’t announced anything about his next move.
