IMPACT ON KRAFTON INC.

Krafton faced a severe impact of this ban as their share value dropped drastically after the ban was announced. According to a report by Inc42, “Shares of Krafton, developer of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) game, tumbled as much as 9% on the Korean stock exchange on Friday (July 29) after BGMI was taken down from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store in India. Krafton shares ended the session 4.5% lower at 233,500 Korean won ($178.64).”

EVENTS THAT PRECEDED AFTER THE BAN:

Some major events took place following the BGMI in India. There has been a constant back and fourth between the authorities and Krafton officials. The BGMI developers have received a time window of 14 days to prove their innocence. The changes with no definitive conclusion has painted a very hazy picture about BGMI’s future in the country.

Sources close to TalkEsport have informed us that Krafton has presented its case to the government on the independence of its operations and data from Chinese influence.

They have further emphasized that the company’s data and other privacy matters and that the data are not handled irresponsibly.

This new evidence provided to the Indian government can turn into substantial proof for the case of Krafton. If the evidence is considered authentic and establishes that the connection between BGMI and China does not exist, there is a chance that BGMI’s ban might get lifted.

Krafton will also be meeting with MeitY officials in the provided time period to present such evidence and prove their innocence in this case. The provided time is very crucial for BGMI developers as it decides the fate of BGMI.

PUBG MOBILE MAKEOVER, BGMI

BGMI Ban in India is in the backdrop of the Indian Government’s stern action against Chinese apps. The first wave of ban was reported in 2020 when the authorities overnight banned 59 Chinese apps flagging ‘data concern and a security threat to the nation.’

Evidently, the PUBG Mobile Indian community was in a dire state to which Krafton, the creator, responded by pulling off licensing from Chinese giant Tencent.

Ever since, there were news reports on Krafton working on a war footing to re-launch a custom-made PUBG Mobile India under the banner of BGMI, which would address all issues of the Government.

The authorities, however, appear to not be in a state of any delusion and have spotted the Chinese connection between Krafton’s newly packed BGMI for the Indian community, hence the ban.

KRAFTON RESPONDS TO THE BAN ORDER

Krafton India has released an official statement addressing the current issue of BGMI ban in India. In a statement addressed to every BGMI player, the CEO of Krafton India has made some assurances and confirmed that they are working with the authorities to resolve this matter.

The entire statement reads as follows:

Dear Patron of BGMI, We are committed to the Indian market and are positive about the opportunities in the country. At KRAFTON, Inc. the security and privacy of our user data is of utmost importance to us. We have always been compliant with all laws and regulations in India including data protection laws and regulations and will continue abiding by them. We thank you for all the love and support you have shown us in our journey uptill here and hope to continue our association in the future as well. There may be questions in your minds regarding the current situation about the country's most loved game- BGMI. In line with this, we have been working hard to communicate our sincerity with the concerned authorities and resolve the issues. We kindly request you to wait to hear from us. We will keep you informed about further updates. We look forward to strengthening our partnerships and collectively fostering the gaming ecosystem in India. POSSIBILITY OF BGMI UNBAN IN INDIA

The future of BGMI in India is very uncertain right now as there are so many variables at play on the same time. Looking at all the facts presented until now, there is a strong possibility that BGMI may get unbanned after the meetings are concluded by the next weekend.

Krafton has already assured its fan base that they are engaging with authorities and will be working to solve any issues that may linger around the game. If they are able to prove their innocence that the game has no Chinese connections, the game will easily return in to the market.

Twitch’s Gambling Boom Has Many Viewers Losing Thousands To Crypto Casinos

0

Years after the first Twitch gambling meta of CSGO skins got sidelined after Valve sent cease and desist to multiple gambling sites, a new type of Gambling is taking over the top spot of Twitch once again.

This time the Gambling Meta has returned with big investments from overseas Crypto Casinos. Many popular streamers have started streaming slots and other crypto gambling games on Twitch with the disguise of it being a genuine game of chance while being advertised by said gambling sites to run ads.

The Gambling Meta is so popular on Twitch right now that the Slots category peaked at 6th position on the Top most viewed games on Twitch overtaking giants like Dota 2, Fortnite, and Apex Legends.

With many streamers pulling in thousands of viewers daily on their streams without any disclaimer and age restrictions, the streams are providing un-filtered exposure to the gambling world to kids and addicts.

In a recent report by Bloomberg, they noted that the gambling meta has gotten so out of hand that many of the viewers of famous streamers are betting their life savings as well as taking out loans to gamble and lose.

They shared a story of a viewer named, Chabot who used to regularly watch ex-Overwatch pro and Twitch partner, Felix “xQc” Lengyel. If you don’t remember, Felix started to stream himself gambling on Stake.com later in 2021 and was also called out by many popular streamers like Pokimane during that time.

During those streams, Felix used to run a promotional code for Stake.com — which bills

itself as a “leading online crypto casino.” On Stake, you generally exchange real-world currency for accepted cryptocurrencies. Later you can use that crypto to wager on various games of chance including slots, blackjack, and roulette. Using Felix’s promotional code Chabot tried out playing slots and started making small bets of 1$ on his games.

Soon this fun activity went downhill and turned into a nightmare as Chabot says he drained his life savings of about $40,000 just to gamble and lose all. Later in an attempt to make back his lost money, Chabot took out two $20,000 bank loans and burned through that money too. Eventually, leading himself to get bankrupt and losing all his money and assets.

While you may argue the problem isn’t with the platform but with viewers gambling on what they can’t digest losing, you should note that the streamers doing slot streams are mostly sponsored and play on special rigged games by site owners to promote a positive winning environment. This positive environment leads the viewers to believe that winning big isn’t that hard and nudges them towards gambling.

It’s not just the gambling sites that are profiting from the sudden rise in Gambling meta. Streamers that are running promotional codes or doing sponsored streams are taking home more than $1 million every month. In May, Felix said the promotion code of Stake.com he shared on Twitch brought $119 million to Stake.com. While he didn’t disclose his cut, it is expected that he made more than $2.3 million from avg VIP commission alone.

While online crypto gambling is illegal across the USA, many online crypto gambling sites have registered themselves in safe heaven countries like Curacao in the southern Caribbean Sea and the Dutch Caribbean region. Most streamers that are promoting gambling have moved to Canada which currently has no stringent laws against online crypto gambling.

Twitch can‘t seem to get a rest from constant controversy regarding platform policies and streams. Before it was Hot-tub and pool streams that were plaguing the platform which is now replaced by Gambling meta.

Twitch is slow to react and generally, only moves after the whole internet start campaigning against the platform. While the company had implemented steps like not allowing referral codes or sharing links for gambling companies, a more strict policy change is currently under work. A Twitch spokesperson said to Bloomberg that the company is “currently in the midst of a deep-dive look into gambling behavior on Twitch.”

Shroud’s Return to Competitive sees a peak viewership of 600k

0

Yesterday with the start of the VCT NA Last Chance Qualifier, we saw the much-awaited competitive comeback of the beloved Shroud.

On July 8th, Sentinels announced that they are adding Shroud to their active Valorant Roster to substitute for Sick, who could not attend the tournament due to a family problem. The signing took the Valorant world by storm and was one of the most hyped signing for Sentinels since TenZ.

Soon after, Zellsis was added to the roster as the fifth man instead of Kenpaki to make an almost new LCQ roster. With Dani, Weltz, and Rawkus as the support staff, everyone was waiting for the new Sentinels debut and the return of Shroud to the competitive side of Gaming after more than three years.

Playing against the Guard, Shroud, who had already announced he’d be playing controller in the team, started the first map of Breeze donning Viper and clutching along with TenZ in the first half to leave his mark in the game.

On Icebox in the game’s final moments in a 2v4 situation, Shroud grabbed a 4k to give sentinels an advantage, but the team made mistakes and could not close out the games to lose the series 2-1 in the last map, which went to double overtime.

Shroud finished the game with a KDA of 39/59/25 and ACS of 157. While the team lost the series, they would still have a chance today against Shopify Rebellions to continue in the event.

Despite the anti-climatic loss of Sentinels, The series had a peak viewership of 600K across the multiple watch parties. Tarik was the frontrunner recording a peak viewership of 205k, followed by Shroud’s Channel, The Valorant Official stream, and Kyedae’s. The viewership record was unprecedented, and it was one of the most watched matches of atleast this year.

While Shroud and Sentinels would play again today in an Elimination match-up, it would be interesting to see what records the stream will set today. The Sentinel vs. Shopify Rebellion Game would go live at 4:00 PM PT, and viewers can choose whoever they want to watch.

Stay tuned as we give you more of Shroud and LCQ.

Free Fire to launch a new map Nextera on Fifth Anniversary

Garena has announced that they are going to launch a new map called Nextera on the occasion of their flagship title, Free Fire’s fifth anniversary. This map will be quite different from any others that you have played till date. The developers have stated that it will be more dynamically diverse.

Free Fire is a popular battle royale game and it gained fame across the globe during the period of pandemic shutdown. The game now has millions of active players every day and a big part of this success goes to the game’s innovative battlefields.

The game has a total of three maps and Nextera will be the next addition. According to the developers, the new map is going to be “Expansive, dynamic maps are iconic features of Free Fire and players can look forward to the release of a new map Nexterra, which has been enhanced with various elements to elevate and diversify the battle experience for players.”

No glimpses of new hints about this map have been dropped yet but leaks suggest that it really is quite different from any other maps in the game.

Apart from this, the game will be getting a huge update with fifth anniversary celebrations in the game itself. Some other modes would be available and their details are as follows:

A new limited-time mode “Free For All”. Set against the backdrop of El Pastelo, it will simulate intense close combat point-based matches where up to 16 players will battle it out. Players will be able to select their own weapons and can obtain points by eliminating other players. Matches will be decided by the first player to accumulate a predetermined amount of points.

An exclusive 5th anniversary mode Droid Apocalypse, which will see 12 players compete in each match, vying to become the ultimate droid. Players will get to select their own type of droid and convert as many humans as possible before the timer runs out.

When only a predetermined number of humans remain, they will transform into hunters and have enhanced stats, as well as the ability to permanently eliminate droids. Points can be gained based on performances and the player with the most points after three rounds will win the match.

Self Revive will no longer be there on Apex Legends Season 14

0

Season 13 of Apex Legends is nearing its conclusion and with Season 14 on the horizon, players are downright excited to experience the plethora of new content that is on its way. What has shaken the community up is the decision to take away Self Revive.

Self Revive Will Be Removed From Apex Legends In Season 14

Respawn Entertainment has big things in mind for Season 14 of Apex Legends which is due for 9th August 2022. This new season, like every other season is set to bring in a new Legend, along with updates to the weapons, Legends, and map changes.

Unexpected new being the changes to Gold items, removal of the Self-Revive ability from the Gold Knockdown Shield. All of this is coming on Season 14 and the Knockdown Shield will imply the Gold Backpack’s Guardian Angel ability, which revives players with half health.

Conversely, the Gold Backpack will boast the “Deep-Pockets” ability, with more meds storage in their inventory. With the Gold Backpack equipped, three Medkits can be put in and two Phoenix Kits in total.

Removal of the self-revival was raised a few eyebrows, while the community is polarized on this. While the intention is to balance out the game, there might be greater implications that can only be found out when Season 14 drops.

Velocity Gaming to play TEC Challenger Main Event LAN in Banglore

0

With an unbeaten Group Stage performance for TEC Challenger and dropping only a single Map, Velocity Gaming is all set for the TEC Main Event Banglore LAN starting on August 12th, with their first match against Revenant Esports.

The Esports Club Challenger Main event is all set to be held on LAN in Banglore starting August 12th, With four teams from the Group stage qualifying to play for the LAN, which are Velocity Gaming, Orangutan, Revenant Esports and Enigma Gaming.

The Main Event LAN would be a three-day long LAN event and the first time since the Skyesports Champions Series that we would be able to see our favourite teams compete on LAN. You can read about the event and get your tickets here

The three-day event would feature six matches where the four teams would battle in a double elimination bracket, and the winner would get a cash prize of ₹750000. The four teams are the top two teams from the group stage.

Velocity Gaming VLT was a part of Group B, consisting of Enigma Gaming, Lethal Esports and Reckoning Esports. The Group B matches started with Velocity Gaming taking on Enigma Gaming.

This was a revenge matchup for VLT after losing Enigma in 0-2 fashion at The Skyesports Championship Chennai LAN. The match started on VLT’s bind, where the team managed to overwhelm Enigma’s defence and win the half 10-2.

The second half saw VLT struggling to keep up with Enigma’s attacks, but the eight-round lead was too much for Enigma to overcome, and VLT won the first map 13-9.

Enigma Gaming’s Haven had Velocity struggle initially, but soon, they overcame the struggle to dominate the rest of the half to win it 8-4.

In the second half, VLT only managed to close Enigma without beating an eyelash, winning the map 13-5 and the series 2-0.

Facing Reckoning Esports in their second Group Stage game, VLT played Haven again as Reckoning’s map pick and dominated on the attack, winning the first half 7-5, But Reckoning managed to come back with only dropping two rounds in the second half to win the first map 13-9.

VLT had to return stronger and ensure they didn’t drop a map. Playing Ascent, the first half went in Reckoning’s favour with 7-5 as the score. The second half started well, but Reckoning reached the map and match point. Velocity won the next round forcing overtime.

The teams initially exchanged offensive and defensive halves, but VLT managed to win the offensive and the defensive half back to back to force a third map.

Icebox was one-sided, with VLT in complete control during the attack and defence, with VLT winning the map 13-5 easily and winning the series 2-1. For the last group stage game, VLT faced Lethal Esports and dominated them on Pearl winning the new map 13-2.

The second map wasn’t any different, with Lethal Esports tying the first half 6-6, but VLT shut their attack to win the second map 13-6 to win the series 2-0, undefeated in the groups.

VLT will likely face Revenant Esports on the main stage on August 12th, and it would be a game from Velocity Gaming. The team would require three wins to win the whole event. And with the form they displayed, they sure seem to be on the road with it.

BGMI made a stellar entry in esports after its launch in late 2021. The first official tournament had a prize pool of ₹1 crore and it has only grown from then onwards. Now, several third-party tournaments were lined up with a LAN final and prize pool in crores.

When BGMI was banned, all of these tournaments were paused and some were postponed indefinitely. Questions have raised over how this ban is affecting Indian esports as a whole.

Hundreds of BGMI pros and thousands of content creators might potentially suffer from this ban as they will have to redirect their attention to a different title altogether.

KRAFTON PLEAS NO CHINESE CONNECTION

Now new information has emerged from the first sitting between the Government and Krafton officials.

If the evidence is considered authentic and establishes that the connection between BGMI and China does not exist, there is a slight chance that BGMI’s ban might get lifted.
