Questions raised around Global Esports’ direct invite to ESL Clash of Nations Bangkok 2019

The direct invite handed to the Global Esports Dota 2 squad for ESL Clash of Nations Bangkok 2019 has courted a bit of controversy. Entity manager Sid Joshi has questioned the legitimacy and semantics of the direct invite, which is said to be based on the fact that Global Esports is currently leading the pack in Phase 1 of the ESL India Masters Fall Edition.

Sid Joshi pointed out that Entity are the defending LAN champions, having won the ESL INDIA Masters Summer LAN and that the direct invite is harsh on their Dota roster.

The Entity manager has also put forth an explanation provided to him (now unavailable), which entails that Global Esports was awarded the slot/invite based on the aforementioned placement along with recommendations from NODWIN Gaming and ESL INDIA.

While Global Esports are mere spectators in this controversy, it begs the question of why the slot for such an illustrious event is being handed out based on current tentative standings and recommendations instead of concrete qualifiers or results.
