While the gaming world waits patiently for the arrival of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) and Nintendo’s new console, the Nintendo Switch 2, one burning question lingers in the minds of many: Will GTA 6 be released for the Nintendo Switch 2? At the moment, there has not been any formal announcement about whether or not that will happen.
Rockstar Games has officially revealed that GTA 6 is due to release in fall 2025, with confirmed platforms being PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Interestingly, no mention of a PC release has been made so far, which is consistent with Rockstar’s past trend of releasing games on consoles first before PC. The lack of announcement for the Nintendo Switch 2 leaves us wondering about the game’s compatibility with Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.
Will GTA 6 Ever Come to Nintendo Switch 2?

The Nintendo Switch 2, which will be released on June 5, 2025, has a number of hardware upgrades compared to its original. Some of the main features include a 7.9-inch 1080p display with 120 frames per second (FPS) support and HDR, better speakers with 3D audio, 256 GB of internal storage, and reimagined magnetic Joy-Con controllers. The dock for the console allows for 4K gaming when plugged into a television, and it will be compatible with games like “Mario Kart World” and “Cyberpunk 2077“.
Even though the Switch 2 is an improvement, technical experts are doubtful that it would be able to handle GTA 6 efficiently. The game is expected to have more advanced graphics and ray-tracing features that would be more than the Switch 2’s hardware can handle. In addition, Rockstar’s past record of selective game releases on Nintendo platforms indicates a conservative strategy.
Historically, Rockstar Games has been choosy in releasing its titles on Nintendo consoles. For example, Red Dead Redemption came out on the original Switch 13 years after its original release, and “L.A. Noire” came out six years after release. This trend suggests that even if GTA 6 were to release on the Switch 2, it may not be released at launch and could come out much later, if at all.
