Cyberpunk 2077’s and The Witcher 3’s stolen source code sold at a dark web auction

Cyberpunk-2077

Just a week ago, CDPR revealed on Twitter that they fell victim to a ransomware attack which resulted in their data being encrypted and stolen. The stolen data included the source codes for Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, Witcher 3 Remastered, Gwent and more titles that CDPR had worked on not only that but legal and HR documents were stolen off by the hackers,

CDPR stated that they “will not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the actor, being aware  that this may eventually lead to the release of the compromised data.” They also assured their ex-employees regarding the incident, “To our ex employees: As of this moment, we don’t possess evidence that any of your personal data was accessed. However, we still recommend caution (i.e. enabling fraud alerts).”

Just a day after the said attack, an auction for the stolen data was held on a dark web forum and the bid started at $1 million. However, another party outside the auction managed to buy the compromised data at $7 million as reported by KELA. The buyer also demanded that the data should not be leaked or sold ever again.
