Sega announces multiple titles for Tokyo Olympics 2020

Sega, a brand well known for producing multi-million-selling game franchises including Sonic the Hedgehog, Total War, and Yakuza, and world’s most prolific arcade game producer, just announced a bunch of games for Tokyo Olympics 2020 including Tokyo 2020 Olympics The Official Video Game, Mario & Sonic AT Tokyo Olympics, Mario & Sonic AT Tokyo Olympic Arcade Game and Tokyo 2020 Sonic Olympics.

Sega will start by releasing Tokyo 2020 Olympics The Official Video Game in summer 2019 for Sony PS4 and Nintendo Switch , followed by winter 2019 release for Mario & Sonic AT Tokyo Olympics on Nintendo Switch and Mario & Sonic AT Tokyo Olympic Arcade Game sometime in 2020.

Sega also stated a worldwide release of Tokyo 2020 Sonic Olympics mobile game to be available for iOS and Android in 2020.

It comes at no surprise that Sega is focusing on Sony PS4 and Nintendo release first as they are more popular in their homeland Japan. Sadly, this also confirms that they don’t have plans to release any game on Xbox or PC as of now. But still this comes as an exciting news for long time fans of Mario and Sonic series to be getting games focused on Olympics featuring their favourite characters.

With this Tokyo Olympics 2020 becomes the first ever Olympics to feature an official video game and this may pave way for esports to be included in next Paris Olympics 2024. As the BBC reported this may help push the narrative of Esports to be included in the official line-up of the Olympics games.
