No esports federation or association recognized by the government yet: Ministry of Sports

Sports Minister Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur affirmed that it has not recognized any federation or association around esports and gaming in the country. Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur shared this information while reacting to inquiries around the cooperation of India in the esports award occasion during the Asian Games 2022 in Rajya Sabha.

The query regarding this event arose when Ms. Sushmita Devi questioned multiple aspects including if the government was aware that “e-Sports” was a medal event in the upcoming Asian Games 2022. She also inquired if India will be taking part in this event given the “booming e-Sports scenario” in the country. A total of five questions were asked related to esports and its training facilities.

He responded with the response that the government is aware of the “E-sports” metal sport event that will be played in the Asian Games 2022. The government is in talks with the Indian Olympic Association and its counterparts to process the form and share it back with the Asian Games committee.

He also outlined that the National Sports Federation (NSF) was responsible for promoting, training, and developing “specific sports discipline.” The service enhanced crafted by NSF with the assistance of any monetary help to the perceived leagues. The main motive of these federations will be to provide development and financial assistance to the teams and players that will be competing in the Asian Games 2022.
