Dota 2: KUKU becomes free agent

The International 9 ended on 25th August 2019. Just 3 days later, multiple teams have disbanded and others preparing for potential roster changes.

The latest in the long list of casualties is Carlo “Kuku” Palad.

Kuku has been part of TNC for exactly 2 years, and has been an integral part of the teamโ€™s rise to fame and success in the Dota pro circuit.

Earlier today, KUKU announced via his twitter handle that he was looking for a new team to represent, sparking rumours that he has been kicked from TNC, despite the teamโ€™s 9th-12th position finish at Ti9, which is not at all bad.

TNC Predator has not officially made any statement regarding the playerโ€™s departure from their active line-up.

With KUKU leaving, TNC Predator are short 1 OFFLANER, provided that no other roster changes take place or other players donโ€™t change positions.

We can only wait and watch to see how the transfer season progresses.

Report: Envy set to replace Sonic

Team ‘Envy’ appears to be looking for a new fifth player as Aran “Sonic” Groesbeek is about to move out of the active roster.

It has only been three months since Sonic joined the team Envy and Envy is already looking for a replacement. Sonic joined the team as a primary AWPer in the start of June, with the report also indicating that the IGL ‘Nifty’ is set to take his role.

During his time with the Team Envy sonic helped the team to qualify for IEM Chicago where they got eliminated in the last place. Their failure to qualify for the ESL ONE NY, The StarLadder Berlin Major, MSI MGE Finals and the American Minor. They left a few noticeable results out to their name, they could barely regain their spot in the Esl Pro League Season 10.

Envy will have little to no time to finalize a replacement for Sonic, as they’re gonna be competing in the ECS Season 8 NA Pinnacle Cup and the DreamHack Masters Malmo NA Closed Qualifier in two weeks time, this puts them already at a bad spot.

With the reported removal of Sonic, Envy will be playing their upcoming matches with this roster.

Adidas Originals and Ninja enters multi-year apparel partnership deal

1

Tyler โ€œNinjaโ€ Blevins today announced his partnership with Adidas Originals and released a video which featured him wearing Adidas merchandise. According to Adidas this is a multi-year partnership deal and will feature โ€œeither physical or virtualโ€ products.

Tyler while streaming on Mixer was asked by his viewers about the products that will be available as part of the deal but the later replied and only said โ€œuse your imaginationโ€.

Adidas is known to sign individual sports players for apparel deals but this is first time for Adidas to partner with an individual esports player. The apparel deals are relatively new in the gaming world and collaborating with one of the biggest names in the gaming industry might prove to be the turning point for Adidas.

Ninja is also in a long term partnership with other big brands such as Microsoftโ€™s Mixer, Samsung and Red Bull. Time to time he will also do sponsored game streams for latest exclusive games such as for EA at the time of Apex Legends release.

Currently the Fortnite star is on a rise with many brands exclusively signing him. This also proves the notion that big brands are openly looking for opportunities to enter in the gaming market and offer special products for these consumers.

Vici gaming captain Fade decides to retire from the competitive scene

Vici gaming’s captain Pan “Fade” Yi decides to publicly announce his retirement from the competitive scene altogether through his social media account. He points out the mental breakdown that all competitive players face post-TI roster shuffle season.

Vici gaming had an impressive run in the second half of the DPC season winning a minor and a major. As well as the first ever team to two consecutive majors, that is Dreamleague Season 11 and EPICENTER. At the end of the group stage at TI9, Vici Gaming performed well and finish at second position. In the play-offs, however, they faced PSG.LGD and lost after that they had to battle it out in order to survive but unfortunately Team Secret in the Lower bracket match managed to knock Vici Gaming out of the tournament. Vici Gaming concluded their run with a top 6 finish at The International.

Just two days after The International Nine ended, Fade via. His Weibo account publicly announced his retirement.

Fadeโ€™s post translates as follows:

โ€œI will retire and hope that marks that end of the drama. Iโ€™m tired of being at the center of the storm. Playing competitively for all these years, Iโ€™ve made many mistakes but also had many happy memories. I think Iโ€™ve disappointed you guys too many times. Letโ€™s end it right here, I will go back to being a normal guy who can enjoy Dota in a simpler way.โ€

Fade feels like he has let down alot of the fans but also mentions that he has some happy memories during his competitive run.

Talkesport Picks: Starladder Berlin CSGO Major 2019 Legends Stage Pick’Em

Well. The Legends are set in stone now, with eight Challengers joining the Returning Legends for the Main Stage of the Starladder Berlin Major 2019. The Challenger Pick’Ems sprung up a few surprises but all in all, almost every one managed the regulatory minimum of five correct predictions.

As far as our result goes, we got the 0-3 prediction correct in the form of INTZ. Unfortunately, NRG lost their opening game and while they did win all of their fixtures after, it wasn’t enough to salvage our 3-0 pick.

Among the seven teams we chose to qualify for the Legends Stage, FURIA were a major disappointment. But, forZe’s loss at 2-2 to DreamEaters meant they were out as well. We got the other five teams namely mousesports, CR4ZY, North, G2 and Vitality correct, meaning we accumulated 6 points from our Pick’Em.

Another round of Pick’Em beckons and with it, we are set to release another iteration of our picks, this time for the Legends Stage.

Team to Go undefeated (3-0)

Favourites to go undefeated: Liquid, Astralis

TalkEsport Predicts: Ninjas in Pyjamas

Okay, we have a weird explanation for this. We would have ideally gone for Liquid for the 3-0 spot. But, their opening fixture against CR4ZY has put us in a precarious position. While the North Americans are expected to emerge victorious, the Best of 1s always throw up exciting results, especially at Majors.

The idea behind putting NiP in the 3-0 bracket is to not waste a spot in the seven teams expected to qualify. But, on the other hand, NiP are up against mibr, who will be playing the Major with their coach zews. While a win isn’t a guarantee, this does place NiP in a strong position to go 1-0.

This is the last tournament for GeT_RighT (with NiP at least) and you never know when the NiP magic kicks in. The Swedes had a decent performance at IEM Katowice 2019 and could kick into gear, especially if GeT_RighT comes into his own.

This just might be a gut pick but one that could very well come true.

Team to go winless (0-3)

Favourites: DreamEaters

TalkEsport Predicts: mibr

I mean, this is an obvious one. mibr come into the Major with their coach and while they have proven recently that they can still match up to other team in Best of 1s, other teams are likely to have more about them. Arguably the weakest team in the Legends Stage DreamEaters, have already beaten NRG and Vitality.

Generally, the teams coming in from the Challengers Stage are quicker off the marks and more ready compared to the Returning Legends. Coming back to mibr, the Brazilians open their account against NiP and a defeat there could really set the stage up for the games that follow.

To us, mibr just feel like the team is set to undergo a roster shuffle and that could be occupying their minds going into the Major, which explains their decision to go with zews into the Major despite coldzera reportedly offering to play the event under the banner.

Teams to qualify to the Champions Stage

Favourites: Liquid, Astralis, Natus Vincere, mousesports, Vitality, NRG, ENCE

TalkEsport Predicts: Liquid, Astralis, Natus Vincere, mousesports, G2, NRG, CR4ZY

Liquid, Astralis, Natus Vincere and mousesports should be penciled in as favourites and be present in almost all of the Pick’Ems. But, Vitality’s fragile performance in the Challengers Stage makes us doubt their credibility to perform up their normal levels and enter the Champions Stage.

ENCE on the other hand, surprisingly announced the decision to replace current IGL Aleksib with suNny after the Major. But, announcing it before the Major could have repercussions on the team’s chemistry going into the Legends Stage, which is why we haven’t picked them to go through.

G2 have been a steady top 10 team throughout the season and their recent performances puts them in the favourites category. Perhaps, rightly so, and we don’t argue with it, picking them as one of the teams to go through to the Champions Stage.

Now, on to the rest of our picks. NRG are up there in the top 5 of the HLTV Rankings for a reason and are one of the heavy favourites to enter the Champions Stage for the first time. apart from their defeat to surprise package DreamEaters, they did very little to convince us otherwise.

Now for our CR4ZY pick, the lineup has become a consistent threat to the Tier-1 teams and proved it in the Challengers Stage by almost going 3-0, albeit for the loss to North. the CR4ZY roster packs a heavy punch in terms of raw firepower and have steadily been on the up and up in the CSGO circuit.

Picking them over the likes of FAZE Clan is a bit controversial. But, for us, Faze seems to be going into another Major with an experimental roster rather than a set one. While their results have improved after the addition of Polish legend NEO, the IGL is unlikely to be a long-term addition to their roster, which could be set for a shuffle post Berlin Major.

The only other team that has looked remotely capable of threatening to be one of the party poopers is North. The Danish stack have stabilised and improved under valde, who has really taken to the IGL role with aplomb, achieving positive and consistent results within such a short period of time of taking over.

Let us know in the comments below what your picks are for the Legends Stage Pick’EM.

NoChance part ways with Thomas

NoChance have announced that they will not be playing with Thomas โ€œThomasโ€ Utting.

After four months run in the international team Thomasโ€™ time has come to an end. In early May of this year, he took over the spot of ลฝygimantas “nukkye” Chmieliauskas’s when the latter got a spot in Hellraisers.

During his run with the team, Thomas helped NoChance to reach the Europe minors, this was the biggest achievement of the team thus far. In the Europe minor, they pulled over a huge upset against the favourites Mousesports in their very first match of the tournament but still, they fell short in qualifying due to their losses against CR4ZY and mousesports in best of 3 series.

The remaining line-up of NoChance without Thomas:

  • Martin “STYKO” Styk
  • Kevin “kRYSTAL” Amend
  • Mikail โ€œMaikeleleโ€ Bill
  • Jesse โ€œzehNโ€ Linjala
