Five Finds of Valorant Conquerors Championship

0

The Valorant Conquerors Championship culminated into a Global Esports win after a five-map barnburner against Velocity Gaming in the Grand Finale. The entire event provided us cut-throat action among the best that the South Asian region has on offer.

A lot of new talents propped up, some found their groove and some reinvented themselves. Let us take a look at five talents that emerged from the VCC Main Event.

Agneya “Marzil” Koushik

Marzil chose the best event to find his form and footing in the world of Valorant. He announced himself on the big stage with an ace on his Raze to end Split in style against Global Esports in the Upper-Bracket Semi-Finals and showed his class on Breeze as Velocity Gaming produced a comeback on the map. His performance against Team Exploit proved his previous one wasn’t a fluke and that he had indeed found his place.

His form meant he played each and every map in the Grand Finale and was poignant as ever, losing after coming excruciatingly close to bagging the VCC title and the slot in APAC Last Chance Qualifiers.

For Marzil, it was about not only shutting down the critics but also repaying the faith shown in him by VLT, team owner Manoj “Sentinel” Kasyap and all his teammates. Marzil’s rise bodes well for VLT 2.0 that has been teased and it will be intriguing to see how the whole team shapes up after the roster shuffle.

Akram “rawfiul” Virani

Rawfiul has exploded onto the scene and how. A find of the VLT Academy process, rawfiul has taken over from Prabhdeep “Ghost” Bhatia at Enigma Gaming, even surpassing him to an extent in terms of being the squad’s duelist.

With Shakir “hikka” Razak transitioning into more of a support role in Enigma’s tactical setup, rawfiul has shouldered the burden of being the duelist with aplomb, finishing the VCC Main Event as one of the best players at the tournament.

rawfiul also showed he can go toe-to-toe with the very best and it will be interesting to see how he and Enigma develop as a team post-VCC.

Mohammed Usman “soulM8” Arain

Team Exploit showed they meant business after their win over Velocity Gaming and soulM8 had a big hand to play in it. His performance with the Viper on Icebox was sublime, prying open opportunities and sites with his aim.

His command over Viper and Killjoy is commendable and his tenacity has helped Exploit a lot at VCC. soulM8 would have not been satisfied with his performance against Global Esports but it just goes to show how important he is to the team.

Mustafa “shooterR” Kamal

If there is one player who received press, negative or otherwise, in the chat, it was shooterR. soulM8 aided Exploit’s cause against VLT on Icebox but it was shooterR who took over the server in Breeze, bagging 30 kills on the map, including a quad-kill on the B rush to close it out.

shooterR’s versatility came to the fore at VCC, with the player donning five different agents. Aggression is at the core of Exploit’s gameplay and shooterR fuels it with his own brand of gung-ho Valorant. A treat to watch, we can’t wait to see what shooterR and Exploit can muster up ahead.

Tahsin “M1SYL” Ashrafee

Exceeli Esports came close to upsetting VLT in the Group A decider and knocking them out. M1SYL was at the heart of the attempt, bagging 8 first kills on Bind alone.

The XLE duelist ended the event with bright figures boasting a cumulative Kill/Death score of 114/96 and 28 first kills at the rate of 0.22 per round, which is the joint-highest alongside Ganesh “SkRossi” Gangadhar.

XLE will go back to the drawing board with a positive mind, especially after securing the signature of Sami Ar “SSSami” Rahman, who alongside M1SYL, can truly elevate the team to new heights.

Notable Mentions: Shreyas “Moonlight” Shrestha gave a good account of his own self, establishing himself as a duelist to watch in the coming months. XLE’s Sova, Tasawf “Hermione” Zami showed his own skill, ending the event with the second-highest Kill/Death Ratio of 1.19, tied with teammate M1SYL. Abdul Sami “k1Ng” Khero displayed his tenacity, filling in various roles throughout VCC while also maintaining a healthy statistical relevance when judged from an individual standpoint.

Valorant Conquerors Championship : Weekend Recap

Ever since the conclusion of the Valorant Conquerors Championship, the Indian Valorant Community has been on a Cloud 9 as the top contenders from India fought in a battle towards the lone APAC Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) berth.

You read it right, Global Esports and Velocity Gaming locked horns on Sunday in the Grand Finale of the VCC to secure the APAC LCQ and the $16,500 prize money from the pot. The Finals bracket of the VCC was indeed carnage when it boiled down to just four teams, eyeing towards the final passage towards the ultimate Valorant Champions Event, to be held later in 2021.

At the end of May, Riot had announced its collaboration with Nodwin Gaming to give the South Asian region, their first-ever official Championship event, a part of the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Circuit.

Five regional qualifiers and a wildcard event were organized by Nodwin. India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan were provided with two sets of qualifiers each in a bid to accommodate every team willing to compete for the ultimate battle and due to their past historic presence in Esports. A total of 8 teams advanced towards the main event, out of which just 4 made it to the Finals bracket of the VCC.

Global Esports, Velocity Gaming, Team Exploit and Enigma Gaming were the top four names who made it out of the groups and contested the Upper bracket rounds across the past weekend.

VLT greatly exceeded expectations by surviving against the top South Asian teams, eventually coming down to their final boss battle against Global Esports.. Having initially picked up Agneya “Marzil” Kaushik and Mohit “mw1” Wakle ahead of their VCC campaign, they were among the favourites to represent India at the APAC stage. While Global Esports made their way to the Valorant Conquerors from the Second Indian Qualifier, having lost the final to VLT, in the first iteration. Though Global Esports were once again handed a defeat by the Anuj “Amaterasu” Sharma led side in the Finals Playoffs, they left no stone unturned when it all came down to the blockbuster grand final, played on Sunday.

Honorable mentions :

Evey Indian team from the open qualifiers made it to the VCC, including Enigma Gaming and the above mentioned two. Enigma Gaming had their laugh at the lone wildcard event, going past Team XO, after just seven months since their assembly in Valorant. Their appearance in the VCC playoffs was the best ever feat they ever achieved, on a South Asian level. Although they were knocked out in the Lower Bracket round by Global Esports, leaving a wake-up call for the rest of the teams about their budding dominance.

Salt Esports and Team Exploit were the teams from Pakistan/Afghanistan Qualifier who had qualified for the VCC. The former team found it a bit tough to get past the group stage but Team Exploit had a flawless run in the Group A. Along with Global Esports, they advanced onto the Upper Bracket Final, going past Enigma Gaming. They were further eliminated by the Bhavin “HellrangeR” Kotwani led side, putting an end to the journey across their VCC campaign.

VCC Breaches Past Records At Grand Finale With 50K Peak Concurrency

Valorant has always pulled in massive viewership for major events that feature multiple top teams, and the recently concluded Valorant Conquerors Championship is a perfect example of how those numbers keep growing even in a mostly online space.

The final confrontation between Velocity Gaming and Global Esports reached a peak concurrent viewership of 50K, an all-time record for a regional matchup in Valorant. It’s a rewarding outcome considering the competition’s exclusive event in the South Asian region, dubbed as the “VAL-Clasico”

At the end of May, Riot had announced its collaboration with Nodwin Gaming to give South Asia, their first-ever official Championship event, a part of the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Circuit.

Across the main VCC event, Velocity Gaming (VLT/India), Global Esports (GE/India), Enigma Gaming (Enigma/India), and Team Exploit (TE/Pakistan) were able to further qualify for the Finals playoffs where we saw VLT maintain a flawless run over the Upper bracket while Enigma was knocked out from the contention. Global Esports indeed made light work of Team Exploit in the Lower Bracket to set up a Grand Final Clash with their regional counterparts, Velocity Gaming.

As said, the VAL-Clasico was the one everyone was talking about, potentially the greatest series in the Indian Valorant scene. Global Esports secured a spot at the APAC Last Chance Qualifier and a lion’s share of $16,500 USD. The concurrent viewership of 50,000 was indeed powered by a dual-stream set up by Nodwin, in English and the regional language, Hindi as well.

Right across from Valorant’s beta access, we witnessed a plethora of professionals from Counter Strike : Global Offensive make their switch to Riot’s brand new first person shooter and since then it has been a dream run for the game itself and the community.

You can attribute a number of factors into why Sunday’s finale broke the viewership ceiling. Whether it was the prospect of Global Esports becoming the first ever Indian team to qualify further towards the VCT Champions, or just because it was the mayhem triggered by Ganesh “SkRossi” Gangadhar and his heroics which bolstered the odds in favour of GE.

VCC Winner to Secure Slot at APAC LCQ, Will Face Teams From SEA, China, Korea, and Japan

0

Riot Games has confirmed that China will get two slots at the Asia-Pacific Last Chance Qualifiers and will battle it out against the best teams from SEA, Korea and Japan for a shot at the Valiant Champions 2021.

The APAC Last Chance Qualifiers are scheduled to start from October 13th and will continue till October 17th. The winners of Valorant Conquerors Championship will be able to secure a slot at the Qualifiers alongside getting a lion’s share of the whopping $33,000 prize pool.

VALORANT APAC LCQ: Format

Each of the five sub-regions will be allotted a specific number of team slots at the LCQ. These slots will be awarded to the teams based on the number of VCT points they have in the region. In regions where VCT points weren’t awarded, the top-performing teams will get a shot at the LCQ.

Here are the teams’ allocations in the upcoming APAC LCQ per sub-region:

  • SEA (Circuit Points): 3
  • China (TBD): 2
  • Korea (Circuit Points): 2
  • Japan (Circuit Points): 2
  • South Asia (Valorant Conquerors Championship): 1

The selection process for China hasn’t been confirmed by Riot Games as of yet.

The participating teams in the APAC LCQ will have to fight through a double elimination bracket for a sole spot at Valorant Champions 2021. The finer details regarding the tournament will be revealed by Riot in the near future.

Mouz Made To Sweat Versus Fnatic, Put Themselves Back In Playoff Contention

Mouseports secure their second win at ESL Pro League S14, after a tough 2-0 series win over a new look fnatic. After a slow start for mouz with losses against FaZe and NaVi, they came back to their winning ways yesterday versus EG, a must win game for them. They continued their prowl with a 2-0 win today versus the Swedish-English side, who’re playing their first tournament together with the roster. Fnatic have been nothing short of impressive, beating FaZe and BIG Clan already and still remaining in contention for playoffs, alongside mouz themselves.

MAP VETO

  • fnatic removed Ancient
  • mousesports removed Vertigo
  • fnatic picked Mirage
  • mousesports picked Nuke
  • fnatic removed Inferno
  • mousesports removed Dust2
  • Overpass was left over

Fnatic threw a curveball of their own today as they didn’t pick into Overpass, having done so all through the tournament, even coming back from a 12:3 deficit just yesterday and instead tried to punish pick Mirage, a map mouzhasnt played in EPL S14 yet. But it turned out to be a disaster and was only driven home by the punishment pick of Nuke by Mouseports.

MAP 1: Mirage (Picked by: fnatic, Won by: Mouseports, Final Score: 16:10)

Things looked set on the T-side start for the Alex ‘ALEX’ McMeekin led side as they led 4:0 right off the bat. Mouz were all over the place on the CT side and couldn’t manage a string of rounds throughout the half. With such a delicate economy, it wasn’t worth going for all the clutches and fnatic came out with all guns blazing, ending the half at 9:6. On the T side, mouz were ruthless, thanks to EIGHT opening kills from Robin ‘ropz’ Kool and Frederik ‘acoR’ Gyldstrand and another 3 from IGL Chistropher “dexter’ Nong. Left reeling, fnatic could do nothing but look on as they only managed a single CT side round as mouseports ran away with the map 16:10.

MAP 2: Nuke (Picked by: Mouseports, Won by: Mouseports, Final Score: 19:16)

Nuke was a whole other mountain to climb for Mouz and Fnatic both as they were neck and neck throughout, on either side of the half. Fnatic looked good on their CT side as they brought back a 3:0 deficit to a 7:4 half and were threatening to run away with the half. But thanks to David ‘frozen’ Čerňanský’s heroics, they clawed back some rounds and posted a respectable 8:7 scoreline. On the T side, fnatic were even scarier, sending the mouz economy to the bin time and again. They took a lead of 14:11 and it seemed a formality at that point, with Overpass looming as the third. But once again ‘frozen’ and ‘acoR’ came up clutch as fumbled calling from ‘ALEX’ saw fnatic crumble as the half ended at 15:15. Having found their mojo, mouz took all the 3 CT side rounds of Overtime and then needed just one on the switch, which they easily got and ended the map and series at 19:16.

EVERYONE IN THE RUNNING FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT IN GROUP C

Before the games of NAVI and BIG Clan, every team in group C can still mathematically qualify for playoffs if the results go their way as no team is confirmed for playoffs just yet and if EG fail to win versus NAVI, they could be the first ones out. BIG, NAVI, and mouz look like the favorites to take the top 3 spots, but anything could unfold on the last matchday.
