NaVi Win ESL Pro League Season 14 versus Vitality

Natus Vincere wrote History today, becoming the third team after Astralis and Team Liquid to win the Intel Grand Slam. They defeated Team Vitality in a thrilling 5 map series to take the crown of ESL Pro League Season 14 and etch their name amongst the elites. They won IEM Katowice 2020, DreamHack Masters Spring 2021, IEM Cologne 2021 and finally ESL Pro League S14 in the process.

MAP VETO

⦁ Natus Vincere removed Vertigo
⦁ Vitality removed Ancient
⦁ Natus Vincere picked Dust2
⦁ Vitality picked Inferno
⦁ Natus Vincere picked Nuke
⦁ Vitality picked Overpass
⦁ Mirage was left over

Since the Grand Final was a Best of 5, only 1 ban per side was allowed and it went as one would expect. NaVi banned Vertigo, having never played it while Vitality continued to avoid Ancient. We were left with Dust2, Inferno and Nuke with Overpass and Mirage as decider (if the match went on to 5 maps).

MAP 1: Dust2 (Picked by: Natus Vincere, Won by: Natus Vincere, Final Score: 16:11)

Natus Vincere have been untouchable on Nuke in the last 3 months and were on a 11 map win streak as Vitality tested their steel. It had a shaky start and required a 2v4 by ‘s1mple’ and ‘Boombl4’ in the pistol round to get them started. T side Nuke is where they have done their best work and they gave another example of it and raced to 11 rounds quickly, only allowing Vitality 2 consecutive rounds the whole CT side to end the half 11:4.

After the sides switched NaVi looked set for a win. After the pistol win and the scoreline reading 14:4 it looked all set for a quick end but Vitality weren’t done just yet. With ‘Kyojin’ at the helm, Vitality got 5 rounds on their T side back to back, and NaVi looked humbled. It took a hero AWP effort from ‘s1mple’ to bring them to map point, 15:9.

He then had to bring his hero plays again, and with help from ‘B1T’ and ‘electronic’ they closed the map 16:11, to lead the series again at 2-1.

MAP 2: Inferno (Picked by: Team Vitality, Won by: Team Vitality, Final Score: 16:6)

Having not been tested on Inferno in some time, NaVi looked shaky from the start. Their last game on it was against an underwhelming FaZe but Vitality was the true test. The French relied heavily on their star ‘ZywOo’ and he delivered, especially on the T side. He found entries and exploited rotations, going 14-8 in the process to give his side a 9-6 lead going into the CT side.

There wasn’t much to write home about in the second half as ZywOo did even better on the CT side, not allowing NaVi a single round win. The T side was dismal from the CIS side as they could only get 12 kills in the whole half, which lasted seven rounds. Team Vitality clawed back the lead NaVi had with a win, 16:6 to bring us at even odds 1:1 in the Bo5.

MAP 3: Nuke (Picked by: Natus Vincere, Won by: Natus Vincere, Final Score: 16:11)

MAP 4: Overpass (Picked by: Team Vitality, Won by: Team Vitality, Final Score: 16:7)

The most one-sided half of the series came on Overpass where Team Vitality literally ran away with it. After giving up the pistol, it seemed they were reinvigorated and clawed back round after round after round to putting up a mammoth 12:3 half. Much of this was owed to veteran ‘shox’ who had 21-7 K/D in the first half alone.

With just the formality left, Vitality cleaned up after losing 4 rounds to end the half at 16:7 and set us up for a dramatic finish on Mirage.

MAP 5: Mirage (Decider, Won by: Natus Vincere, Final Score: 16:14)

The final map, for all the glory, was the one that was the closest. Coming off pretty one-sided maps, for the most part, Mirage is where we saw the best Counter Strike of the series. Starting on the CT side, NaVi had a good start but the French fought back and looked set for a strong T side but ‘B1T’ with a magical B site hold, broke the streak and put NaVi in the driver’s seat for a half win at 10:5.

Vitality had their own strong CT side and NaVi were feeling the heat as the score was 11:10. The map was so intense that they exchanged rounds, winning one and losing one all the way to the 30th where ‘s1mple’ and co. closed it out to take the map, series and championship 16:14.

Steam’s latest update introduces a Storage Manager

0

Steam’s new UI update was leaked months ago by Pavel Djundik, creator of SteamDB, and participants of Steam’s beta client were the first ones to test it out when the beta update was deployed in July.

The update’s biggest and the most obvious change was the introduction of the new downloads page which not only looks aesthetically pleasing and more in line with Steam’s current library but also implements quality of life features and is just more informative in general.

According to the patch notes, the new changes are as follows:

When a game/update is actively downloading it will now display the total progression completed for the download or update. Previously the progress bar would only display the downloading content progress but not the disk allocation process which would make an update to appear completed when it was not.

  • Any partially completed downloads/updates in queue now will show a faded progress bar and percent completed next to it to clearly display its current state.
  • A new (i) icon next to the game’s title will reveal a tooltip displaying the types of content that is included in that update. Types consist of: Game Content, Downloadable Content, Workshop Content, and Shader Pre-caching. This icon only appears if the update is not solely game content.
  • The download queue is now fully reorderable using drag and drop.
  • The context menu for the actively downloading item now includes an option to launch the game when the download is complete and an option to suspend download throttling (if enabled) for the duration of that download.
  • The “View News” button is now a “Patch Notes” link that will open an overlay to the most recent relevant patch notes for the game. This will only display for games that have entered patch notes into the new event system. The patch notes link will only show up on updates, not fresh installs. For workshop updates, a page of subscribed items ordered by update date can be accessed by selecting “View Updated Items” from the context menu.

The second biggest change here is the new Storage Manager which has completely replaced the old Steam Library Folders’ option that gave users the option to create a new library folder on a different disk partition. The Storage Manager now lists disk usage individually and installed games can be sorted by size. You can also see workshop and DLC file sizes for installed games.

Here’s the rest of the patch notes for the latest update:

  • Updated Steam library folder UI for easy content management across multiple drives
  • Allow mounting library folders on read-only drives
  • Allow removing empty library folders on fixed drives

  • Streamline new library folder creation during game install
  • When starting a tool (like SteamVR), do not automatically navigate to its details page Change display of bits per second from “b/s” to “bps”

  • Fixed handling Xbox Series X controllers when Xbox Extended Feature Support is enabled

macOS

  • Fixed Steam Overlay displaying at wrong resolution in some games
  • Fixed incorrect identification of current OS version as “Catalina” in Steam Library compatibility label when running macOS 11

Linux

  • Fixed regression causing too many open file handles error during downloads of some games
  • Library pinning process is significantly faster at startup after runtime updates
  • Restore compatibility with NixOS (steam-runtime#431)

  • Fix web views incompatibility with distro host freetype (steam-for-linux#7935)

  • Fixed bug that prevented Steam from counting some USB-connected headsets when gathering data for the hardware survey. In general, the sampling of SteamVR sessions should have caught most of these cases, but this could have resulted in some undercounting.
  • Fixed game hitching that happens to some users when USB devices are inserted or removed

COD Vanguard visibility and audio issues to be resolved soon

0

Sledgehammer Games, the developers of COD Vanguard received a lot of negative feedback regarding the visibility and audio issues that came to the scene after the first beta launch. Numerous on-screen effects seemed broken while playing the game. The developers have confirmed that they are going to fix the issues soon.

The developers added,

We’re aware there is a significant amount of discussion around player visibility and audio mixing. Stay tuned as we will address some of our planned updates later this week.

One of the problems is once you kill an enemy, your screen will get gloomy after getting filled with blood. It basically makes the rest part unplayable. The players didn’t like the graphics for sure.

Apart from the visibility issue, there are sound issues. In the beta, sometimes the footsteps and other important sounds get missing. No doubt, this bug causes a lot of confusion among the players.

Most probably, we are going to get an update next week which will resolve both issues.

Water Bug Worse than ever in the Current State of CSGO

Ever since the introduction of Ancient in the Active Duty Map pool of CSGO, there have been multiple reports of bugs and texture glitches that are ruining the game. The smoke bug has been ever-present, but lately the most common is the water sound bug in T spawn.

The sound of running through water can be heard all across the map, from one end to the other, therefore players are forced to walk through it during the middle of the round and hence it wastes precious time.

As the start point for the Terrorist side, the bug doesn’t cause any severe problems at the start of the game. But during the mid-round, if any CTs hear the Ts running through the water, they’ll automatically know where they are. This allows them to take map control in other crucial areas of the map, giving them a huge advantage.

Another bug that has risen was reported by Reddit user u/maciek10372, who posted a video on the r/globaloffensive subreddit displaying the bugged water particles.
The player shoots another player, which results in the splashing of water, hence distorting the visibility. This would be problematic if other players were present as it would hinder vision by quite a big margin.

This should be taken note of by valve surely, as this has huge repercussions in Pro play and could be round defining if the map goes in this state to the PGL Stockholm Major 2021.

All we can say is, Valve please fix!
