Optic and LOUD lose their opening games at Valorant Masters Copenhagen

The first day of Valorant Champions Tour Masters Copenhagen started with a bang. With opening games played for Groups A and B, We got the first taste of what we can expect from the tournament.

Summary of Day 1 of VCT Masters Copenhagen:

  • Game 1: DRX 2-0 Northeption
  • Game 2: LOUD 1-2 KRU esports
  • Game 3: Guild Esports 2-0 Optic Gaming

The event’s first game delivered beyond expectations with DRX, The Korean Royalty taking on the Northeption, the youngins who beat ZETA to make it to Copenhagen, and it was all we expected.

The game started on Northeption’s Ascent, where DRX on attack fumbled a bit but eventually found gaps in Northeption’s defense and, despite being 2-4 down, managed to close the half 8-4.

On defense, DRX started strong with the pistols, but again Northeption managed to win four rounds in a row to close in on DRX. But the experienced DRX managed to stop the bleeding before it was too late and close out the first map 13-8.

The second map was Bind, DRX’s pick, and they ensured every team on the event understood what they were capable of. With the accurate flashes and coordinated attacks, DRX managed to completely overwhelm Northeption’s defense and win the first half 11-1.

The second half wasn’t any different, and DRX managed to close out the easy game 13-1, winning their opening game 2-0 and handing Northeption their first defeat in an International event.

Despite the dominating scoreline, Northeption’s performance was on par with DRX, and they didn’t seem any less prepared than DRX. Northeption would now face the loser of the XERXIA/FPX game in an elimination match.

The second match was a South American Brawl, where LOUD played against KRU esports. KRU came into the tournament by beating NiP 3-0 in the VCT SA LCQ and looked good, while LOUD has been undefeated and hadn’t dropped a map this split.

Starting on LOUD’s fracture, KRU started strong but failed to win consistent rounds and lost the half 4-8. LOUD now on defense, seemed to struggle a bit, and KRU has begun to come back, but the eight rounds in the first half seemed beneficial to LOUD, and they managed to win the first map 13-10.

On KRU esports Haven, KRU repeatedly found gaps in LOUDs’ defense and won the half 8-4. The sides changed, but the results remained the same, and KRU on Defense managed to hold off LOUD’s attack and win the game 13-9.

With the scores tied 1-1, KRU and LOUD hopped in Icebox for the decider. With LOUD on

defense, they ensured KRU didn’t find continued success and managed to limit KRU to five rounds.

Now KRU on defense completely shut down sites for LOUD and, despite a shaky start till the score 7-10, managed to win six rounds in a row and win the final map 13-10 to win the series 2-1.

With this, KRU has again managed to upset a team in the group stage and would now head to Winner’s bracket, while LOUD now needs to win the next two games to qualify for the event.

The final game of day 1 had the Classic EU NA rivalry with Guild from EU coming in the event as somewhat of a dark horse while the defending champions Optic Gaming would want to change the record of 0-7 against EU teams in the game.

The game started with Guild’s pick of Icebox. The Guild, spearheaded by Koldamenta’s sneaky plays, won seven rounds on attack and outplayed Optic Gaming in a row. Optic won the eighth round on Crashies’s heroics and closed the bleeding ending the half 4-8.

Now on Defense, Guild Esports struggled to hold off Optic, and the FNS calls were too much for them to Handle. And despite winning the first three rounds and getting to 11 first, Guild lost 7 out of the next eight rounds to bring the game close. Guild managed to hold off Optic in the last

rounds, denying the comeback and winning the first map 13-11.

On Optic Gamings’s Split, Guild once again managed to win seven rounds in a row on defense and started strong, and Optic replied strong and won the next four rounds to close out the half 8-4 in Guild’s favor.

Optic on defense replicated Guild and managed to hold off Guild’s attack to reach map point first. In the last round, a quick B finish caught Optic Off-guard, and Guild drew the map 12-12, forcing overtime.

Guild quickly dismissed Optic’s advances in the first overtime, winning the first OT round. They managed to kill three players on attack, but FNS stood his ground and won the round to force another OT.

The teams again exchanged attacking rounds, forcing the third OT, Optic being a man up, decided to attack the B site. Still, Russ managed to hold off the attack and single-handedly killed three players winning the defense round of the third OT.

Guild lost the opening duels in the round but recovered by pulling off a 3v5 round to win the game 16-14 and the series 2-0.

With this, Guild would now face KRU esports for a chance to qualify for the event, while the Masters Reykjavik finalists Optic Gaming and LOUD would face each other in an elimination match the day after.

The second day for VCT Masters Copenhagen would give us the first team to qualify for the playoffs while the last opening match between XERXIA esports and FPX would be played starting 15:00 GMT today.

Shroud breaks down how the Sentinels signing happened: ‘They all thought I was trolling’

0

On July 8, Sentinels announced the signing of Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek to their active Valorant division which indeed had the community on their very feet. With Hunter “SicK” Mims pulling out of the North American Last Chance Qualifier, Sentinels were left looking for their new 5th which poised them in asking the 28-year-old Canadian to fill the spot.

Shroud on his stream spoke upon how the announcement had everyone think it was a troll and not at all serious. The ex-Cloud9 Counter Strike player had just finished up dinner when he got a call from Sentinels to bucket him as their 5th for the Last Chance Qualifier. Initially, Sentinels too thought whether Shroud had been trolling but it was later determined that the Twitch sensation had locked himself into the deal.

“They (Sentinels) all thought I was trolling, but I was not trolling.” said Shroud on his stream.

This move marks Shroud’s return to the competitive scene after over five years of inactivity since having last featured in Cloud9’s CS:GO squad although the Americas Minor of the IEM: Katowice 2019 Major was the last time we saw him don the Old Guys Club tag.

Till now it’s unclear whether Shroud would stick around with Sentinels for the long-term or will it be just for until SicK returns to the active roster.

Following the announcement, XSET who thought it’d be a troll, fake tweeted about Jake “Stewie2K” Yip joining their Valorant roster although the tweet was later taken down by the organization.

Ever since Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek signed up for Sentinels’ Valorant roster, his Twitch streams have wielded an unusual spike of viewers surpassing his previous average from streaming “New World” in 2021.

The announcement helped him clock an average viewership of 43,350 on the very first day followed by a spike of 10,150 on the second day peaking at 72,659 under a 3-day read thanks to the data as provided by twitchtracker

As far as the facts suggest, Shroud would be filling in the spot for Hunter “SicK” Mims at the forthcoming VCT North American Last Chance Qualifier. His time with Sentinels might be a short stint but it’s still unclear whether he would stick around for the long-term.

Shroud’s move to Sentinels marks his return to the competitive scene after a span of five years ever since having last featured in Cloud9’s CS:GO squad although the Americas Minor of the IEM: Katowice 2019 Major was the last time we saw him don the Old Guys Club tag.Shroud’s switch to Valorant and his move to the North American organization indeed took everyone by storm as it was never expected that he’d get back in the competitive scene.

According to a previous report by Dot Esports, Shroud’s signing with Sentinels has been confirmed, as the player will take up on Controller duties on the roster. Shahzeb “ShahZaM” Khan will resume the In-Game leader duties as revealed by Shroud on his stream.

Ninja and wife safe after airplane window cracked

0

Popular gaming personality Tyler Blevins aka Ninja and his wife Jessica Blevins survived a scare when the window of their airplane cracked at 30,000 feet en route to Florida.

Cracking of window is a rare occurrence and extremely dangerous one too, a kind that usually calls for an emergency landing. Lucky enough, the glass was able to hold up until the flight made it to its destination where the couple along with everyone on board was able to land safely.

According to Ninja, the exterior glass incurred a deep crack that may have led to a disaster but to their fortune, the flight managed its way to the airport.

The incident was shared by Ninja on Twitter, where he informed everyone about the incident and that he and Jessica were able to survive the scare.

An airplane being a pressurized container would be in complete turmoil if the crack found its way into the interior glass. An rare occurrence like this is not completely unprecedented but something that should be investigated into.

NaVi sign their First Female Valorant Roster

0

The Ukrainian Esports Giant Natus Vincere or NaVi has decided to tip its toes in Valorant Game Changers by signing a full Turkish Female Valorant Roster under Valorant Celestials.

Natus Vincere is one of the most beloved Esports organizations with legendary teams and a legacy more significant than most esports organizations. The team is home to many esports legends with the CSGO and CS 1.6 NaVi rosters, the internationally winning Dota Roster with “puppy” and “Dendi.”

NaVi has done a lot for developing Esports in Ukraine, with the organization’s CEO convincing the minister to include Esports Players in the Gold Reserve Policy of Ukraine.

Along with legendary Counter-Strike and Dota teams, NaVi also is home to a successful Apex Legends team, multiple other titles, and a male Valorant roster.

With Riot showing interest in developing the female Valorant scene, NaVi saw the opportunity and decided to step in and sign their first female roster as NaVi celestials.

The all-Turkish roster consists of Rehyan “Sephia” Simsek, Zeynep “Ritha” Sualp, Sureyya “Gia” Beyel, Aslihan “proxima” Uslu and is coached by Mert “Key” Celebi.

The team played together as Futbolist Jeff in the Rebels 3 tournament and won the tournament as a team. They also played together as an unsigned team called XX Chromosome. The team is yet to announce its fifth member and is looking for a fifth to complete its roster.

The organization most likely has its eyes on the upcoming Valorant Game Changers Championship in November and would want to compete in the event.

The Valorant Game Changers Championship would feature teams worldwide, including the European super giant G2 Gozen and the North American Queens of Cloud9 White.

As NaVi Celestials would not have enough points, their first test would be the Valroant Game Changers EMEA LCQ, where they’d have to beat many other teams to make it to the Championship.

For now, the New NaVi Celestial Lineup looks like follows:

  • Rehyan “Sephia” Simsek
  • Zeynep “Ritha” Sualp
  • Sureyya “Gia” Beyel
  • Aslihan “proxima” Uslu
  • Mert “Key” Celebi (Coach)
  • Lera_X (Manager)
