PS5 Players Are Suddenly Getting $10 Back When Buying Games

Sony appears to be quietly experimenting with a new way to reward PlayStation Store purchases, with some PS5 players receiving $10 in wallet credit after buying selected games.

The unannounced feature is appearing on certain PlayStation Store listings under an “Includes Wallet Credit” label. Players who have encountered the promotion say the credit is added to their PlayStation Wallet after completing an eligible purchase, effectively giving them money to spend on another game, DLC or other content from the store.

There is one major catch: Sony has not formally announced the program, and it does not appear to be available to everyone. Reports from different accounts suggest PlayStation may currently be conducting a limited test rather than launching Wallet Credits globally.

What are PlayStation Wallet Credits?

The feature started attracting attention after PS5 users noticed a Wallet Credit promotion attached to selected games on the PlayStation Store. PlayStation LifeStyle reported that the offer had appeared on titles including The Blood of Dawnwalker, Halloween: The Game, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and Star Wars Zero Company.

One player who encountered the promotion while purchasing The Blood of Dawnwalker reported receiving $10 in PlayStation Wallet credit immediately after completing the transaction. Other reports have subsequently described equivalent €10 and £10 rewards on eligible accounts.

The important distinction is that this is not a conventional discount or cash refund. The customer pays the listed price for the game and receives credit afterwards, with that balance remaining inside the PlayStation ecosystem for future purchases.

Not every PS5 player is getting the offer

For now, PS5 owners should not assume that purchasing one of the reported games will automatically generate Wallet Credit.

The promotion appears to differ between accounts, and Sony has not published eligibility requirements, a complete list of participating games or a list of supported countries. That makes the current implementation look more like a controlled rollout or promotional test than a finished worldwide rewards program.

Players interested in the offer should therefore check the individual game’s PlayStation Store page on their own account before purchasing it. Unless an “Includes Wallet Credit” promotion is actually displayed, there is currently no indication that buying the same title will qualify for the reward.

Sony has had a mysterious Wallet Credits listing for months

The sudden appearance of these rewards becomes considerably more interesting because Wallet Credits did not first appear in September.

Earlier in 2026, PlayStation users discovered a mysterious official Wallet Credits listing on the PlayStation Store. The page lists Sony Interactive Entertainment as the publisher, remains marked as “Announced” and provides no release date.

The unusual listing immediately prompted speculation about what Sony was developing. One possibility discussed at the time was a new PlayStation rewards system, while others wondered whether Sony could be preparing a different way to distribute or purchase wallet funds.

Months later, the same Wallet Credit terminology is now appearing alongside actual PlayStation Store purchases. Sony has not officially connected the mysterious listing with the current offers, but the development makes the February discovery considerably more relevant.

Could Wallet Credits replace PlayStation Stars?

The timing inevitably raises another question: is Sony preparing a replacement for PlayStation Stars?

Sony announced in May 2025 that it would wind down the current version of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program. According to Sony’s official announcement, PlayStation Stars stopped accepting new members in May 2025 and stopped offering new campaigns, rewards and status benefits later that year.

The current version of PlayStation Stars will fully end on November 2, 2026. More importantly, Sony said it would continue evaluating what it learned from Stars while exploring new ways to evolve its loyalty efforts in the future.

That does not mean Wallet Credits has been confirmed as the successor. Sony has made no such announcement, and the current offers could still be individual PlayStation Store promotions rather than the foundation of another loyalty program.

Still, the timing is difficult to ignore. A Wallet Credits product appeared on Sony’s own store while PlayStation Stars was being wound down, and actual Wallet Credit rewards are now appearing only weeks before Stars disappears completely.

Wallet Credits could be much simpler than PlayStation Stars

If Sony eventually expands the feature, its biggest advantage may be its simplicity.

PlayStation Stars combined purchases with points, campaigns, status levels and digital collectibles, with much of the experience managed through the PlayStation App. The Wallet Credit promotion being reported now appears much more straightforward: purchase an eligible game and receive credit that can be spent directly on the PlayStation Store.

That structure would also give Sony an obvious commercial advantage. Offering $10 in future Store credit can make a full-price digital purchase more attractive without reducing the advertised price of the game itself. The reward then encourages the customer to return to the PlayStation Store to spend the credit.

It would effectively combine a customer reward with a digital sales promotion, particularly around new releases where publishers may be reluctant to offer an immediate price cut.

Sony’s PlayStation business is already under pricing scrutiny

The experiment also arrives during a period in which PlayStation pricing has attracted unusual attention. Earlier this month, TalkEsport reported on Sony’s legal battle over PS5 tariff-related price increases and refunds, highlighting the wider pressure surrounding console costs and what consumers ultimately pay for the PlayStation ecosystem.

A Wallet Credit system would approach value from a different direction. Rather than lowering hardware or software prices outright, Sony could use targeted Store credit to reward purchases and encourage customers to remain within its digital marketplace.

Will PlayStation Wallet Credits launch globally?

There is currently no confirmation that Sony intends to expand Wallet Credits worldwide or turn the feature into a permanent PlayStation rewards program.

That distinction matters because reports from players suggest the offers are account-dependent. Sony has yet to explain how users are selected, which games qualify or whether different markets will receive different reward values.

For that reason, players should avoid buying a game solely because other users have reported receiving Wallet Credit. The safest indication of eligibility is the offer appearing directly on the relevant PlayStation Store page while signed into the account making the purchase.

What began as a mysterious PlayStation Store listing earlier this year has nevertheless become much more tangible. Some players are now receiving actual Store credit for buying games, PlayStation Stars is approaching its final shutdown, and Sony has already acknowledged that it is exploring the future of its loyalty efforts.

Whether Wallet Credits becomes that future remains unconfirmed. But after months of speculation, Sony appears to be testing something very real, and some PS5 owners are already getting money back into their PlayStation Wallets.
