Modern Warfare 4 non-MilSim warning has arrived with Possession, the game’s new Halloween mode. Infinity Ward added a label that reads “Warning: Non-MilSim Content” to the playlist. Players see it before they search for a match. Possession went live on October 29, 2026, and lets players take over the character they last killed. The label follows an earlier promise from the studio to avoid outlandish skins.
This article covers what the warning says, how Possession works, what Infinity Ward said about cosmetics, and the upcoming content dates.
Modern Warfare 4 Non-MilSim Warning Explained
Infinity Ward added the label to the Possession playlist on October 29. MilSim is short for military simulation. The warning tells players that the mode does not follow the game’s grounded, realistic style.
The warning also follows years of player complaints. Fans have said Call of Duty multiplayer often moves away from the darker tone of its campaigns and seasonal story content.
How Possession Mode Works
Possession is a limited-time Halloween mode in multiplayer. A player who eliminates an enemy possesses that player. They teleport to the enemy’s location and take the enemy’s loadout.
Call of Duty describes the mode as a fast party mode. Infected, another Halloween mode, arrives on October 30. Both modes are listed as pre-Season 1 content.
Infinity Ward has not shared its plans for future bundles. Crossover content often arrives in the new year, but the studio has not said what Modern Warfare 4 will include.
Modern Warfare 4 Release and Season 1 Dates
Infinity Ward developed the game, and Activision publishes it. Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23, 2026. It is available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Season 1 starts on November 6 for both Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone. A start time has not been announced.
