How to fix CSGO “Pure Server” Issues

After the 1.3.7.5.0 update, many CSGO players reported that they were unable to join official matchmaking servers. There’s a very easy solution for that.

Reportedly, players are having a tough time trying to join matchmaking servers after the latest update in CSGO . The update made a change to how servers read player’s individual game files and if there’s any discrepancy, players will be kicked. Even though specifics weren’t detailed, it seems like the scope of this function has increased after this patch.

Valve added in the update notes that, “sv_pure servers will now kick clients that have loaded asset files into game memory from files not present on [the] game server filesystem.”

This is the reason why players are being kicked out of lobbies and is also responsible for leading to “pure server” error messages. Queuing up for competitive matchmaking and getting kicked will hand you a competitive cooldown and a loss. However, there is a solution to resolve this problem.

As per ‘gabefollower’ on Twitter, you’ll need to get rid of some game files. The materials, shaders, models, scripts, sound and particle folders could be affecting your ability to join a server.

Here’s how to get rid of these files

  1. Restart the computer and close Steam.
  2. Open your File, Explorer.
  3. Go to Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\
  4. Create a backup of two folders—models and materials if you have custom stuff/configurations for models, sprays, etc.
  5. Select both folders and press & hold Shift and press the Delete key to permanently delete your Models and Materials folders.
  6. Open your Steam and head to the Library section.
  7. Right-click on CSGO and select Properties from the menu.
  8. Go to ‘Local files’ and click on Verify Integrity of the Game Files.

Till Valve completely patches out the issue, this is only possible solution to fix the issue as of now. You’ll have to delete these folders every time you want to join an official server if you are a modder. Hopefully Valve quickly patches this issue quickly.
