Sony has locked in a release date for God of War Laufey. The next chapter in the God of War series will launch on PS5 on February 16, 2027, Sony Santa Monica confirmed during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.
The studio’s creative head, Cory Barlog, shared the date on stage. PlayStation backed it up with a short teaser on its official social media accounts, showing a brief golden logo and the release window.
God of War Laufey is now available to wishlist on the PlayStation Store. Pre-order details and pricing have not been announced yet.
Faye Takes the Lead, Not Kratos
God of War Laufey marks a first for the franchise. It is the first mainline entry where Kratos is not the playable character.
Instead, players will control Faye, the wife Kratos lost before the events of God of War (2018). The story follows her through an afterlife built for the gods, where she may cross paths with deities Kratos once killed.
The game was first shown with a full gameplay trailer during PlayStation’s State of Play presentation in June 2026, which gave fans an extended look at its opening sequence and combat.
Deborah Ann Woll plays Faye. She has said the project was first pitched to her almost ten years ago, with Sony first approaching her about the role back in 2018, the same year the 2018 God of War launched on PS4.
Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that God of War Laufey will ship on a physical disc rather than a code-in-box. This comes even though Sony has plans to stop physical disc production the following year, making the release one of the last major PS5 titles to get a full disc release under that timeline.
Sony also used its Comic-Con panel to confirm the next mainline God of War game will return to Kratos, and its story will connect directly to the events of Laufey. No release window has been given for that title yet.
A Crowded February for Gamers
God of War Laufey will launch into a busy month. February 2027 already includes several other big releases following GTA 6’s expected launch earlier in the year:
- Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis – February 12
- God of War Laufey – February 16
- Persona 4 Revival – February 18
- Fable (Xbox reboot) – February 23
With four major releases packed into a single month, February 2027 is shaping up to be one of the busiest release windows in recent memory.
