Activision Confirms PlayStation Cross-Play for Black Ops and Black Ops 2

Call of Duty developer at Activision has confirmed that popular titles from the franchise, namely Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, will now support multiplayer cross-play between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

This cross-play feature has only been extended within the PlayStation family. Therefore, other platforms like Xbox and PC are not covered. Players on PS4 and PS5 can join multiplayer matches with each other regardless of the version of the game, allowing owners of the old-gen console to play alongside new-gen console owners.

This confusion arose after the games were released for the new-gen consoles, and while there are many that would like to enjoy older games, the ability to enjoy multiplayer with friends without having console generation limitations is a massive win for the gaming community.

As the old generation of Black Ops games got rereleased for PS5, many saw it as a cash-grab attempt. However, the reaction of the community came out to be largely positive, and with cross-generation multiplayer now getting officially confirmed, this is a great time to be a Call of Duty enjoyer.
