Borderlands 2 records 60,000 concurrent players this week

0

Borderlands 2 the good old looter shooter and the best in class of this genre just received an uplift with Gearbox offering free 4k texture packs and also announcing the sequel to the series named Borderland 3. All this news and update hyped the crowd and long-time players to reboot the title once again and relive the story again before the sequel.

According to a report, the game peaked just shy of 60k players last week as highlighted in steam charts where the game hit 59,333 concurrent players. All this boils down to the hype that the recent announcements made and the heavy discounts the game received this week.

But that doesnโ€™t make the game mediocre. In fact, Borderlands 2 offers a wide variety of story-driven campaign and co-op looter shooter experience at its core followed by loads of customization options. The game has a โ€œvery positiveโ€ review on steam since its launch in 2012 and has remained the same since then. Even after loads of negative reviews, it received after the announcement of Borderlands 3 being 6-months exclusive to Epic Game Stores set to release on September 13th,2019.

The Borderland series have been fan favourite since long and borderland 2 was the best among them. Many reviewers said that the game was ahead of its time and offered a very new and fun approach to game mechanics, that other games were missing or failed to implement properly. With developers still remaining active and giving out updates occasionally, the game may even hit 80k concurrent players in the coming weeks as the release for the sequel comes closer.

Nepal bans PUBG due to addictive concerns

1

On Thursday the Nepal Telecommunication Authority directed all internet service providers and mobile service providers to ban PlayerUnknownโ€™s Battleground Mobile game immediately after having concerns over its addictive nature and district court hearing coming in favour of the ban.

This comes as no surprise as parents and school were already protesting against the game saying that it is affecting childrenโ€™s studies and is too addictive for their minds, so much so that they are hooked to the game for hours. The Metropolitan Crime Division had filed a Public Interest Litigation at the Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday, seeking permission to ban PUBG after receiving complaints from parents, schools and school associations. The district court held the hearing on the same day and directed the Nepal Telecommunication Authority to ban the game immediately.

In a press release, the Senior Superintendent of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh, chief of the Metropolitan Crime Division said:

We received a number of complaints from parents, schools and school associations regarding the effect of the game on children. We also held discussions with psychiatrists before requesting the Kathmandu District Court for permission to ban the game. There have been many shocking incidents due to the game in other countries. We have decided to ban the game before anything unfortunate occurs in Nepal.

He later on went and said that anyone found playing the game will be arrested and the internet or mobile service provider will also face action if they fail to implement the ban.

The decision to ban the game however, has not gone down well with many students and adults as they are reaching out to authorities about the ban and asking them to reverse the decision. Many people believe that banning the game isnโ€™t the solution for the problem as there are many games that are similar to PUBG available to play. But rather the government authority should direct and teach parents to keep an eye out on their kids.

Nepal isnโ€™t the only country to ban the game, with many countries such as China, India (limited ban) and more already banning the game. Even after the reports of Tencent (creators of PUBG Mobile) implementing a time limiting feature to game the bans continue to happen. Tencent has yet to comment officially on the matter.

Esports revenue in China expected to reach $3 billion by 2020

In a report from Chinaโ€™s biggest television broadcaster, China Central Television (CCTV) reported that the current state of the esports in the Chinese market is growing at a phenomenal pace and may reach the $3 bn mark by 2020.

To meet the demand of the growing esports industry many Chinese colleges have started offering esports related courses in various fields such as event management, event operations, esports broadcasting and esports streaming.

Besides adding more esports courses to colleges, the Chinese government is also trying to raise public awareness of esports as a whole. The Chinese government as a promotion effort confirmed โ€œesports operatorโ€ and โ€œesports playerโ€ as two new professions in the country. With support from the government, many big companies are also looking to invest more in esports scene such as Tencent.

Bang Xu, the vice president of Tomorrowland Esports Ltd talked with CCTV and said:

Three years ago, it may have taken two or three months to get one or two applicants for the director of an esports league. The number of esports leagues in 2016 was just less than 10. At present, we may have dozens of applicants in a month, and the number of esports leagues has exceeded 100. Although more and more people are willing to engage in the esports industry, esports talents are still in short supply compared to the speed of the industry development.

With the promising growth in the industry and government interest in esports, many young esports players can rejoice and confidently look for the future in the esports industry and contribute further to the development of esports in China.

This investment into FaZe Clan not only represents a belief in the organization but a belief in the long-term potential of #gaming and #esports.

Meyers is no strange to gaming, as he also streams Fortnite on twitch time to time and he also wore custom sneakers with Faze Clan logo and his Twitch handle to an official NBA game on April, 9th.

Sources: Mammoth Gaming to Reveal new CSGO Lineup

Mammoth Gaming have unveiled a new lineup of CSGO featuring Karamil, BaDman, HellrangeR, haivaaN, Pok1 and BondF, which was confirmed to us by our sources.

In what is seen as a barrage of changes for both the players and the team itself, the only time some of the players from the lineup played together was for MXB Gaming in the IEM Sydney Open Qualifier #2, when BondF, Karamil and HellrangeR teamed up for the lone event. The surprise entrants had then lost in the finals to Team Maple.

Bleh & HellrangeR

This lineup will be the first permanent one for Bhavin โ€œHellrangeRโ€ Kotwani, who was released from Entity Gaming a few weeks back. He recently stood in for Team Gofigure and won the event by beating SemperX in the finals.

HaivaaN will be looking to revitalise his career after a promising start to his OpTic India journey was cut short by the now infamous Forsaken hacking scandal, and then having a brief stint with Ate.

Pok1, who had been traded from Entity to Global Esports after being with 2ez, will now look for stability as he finds himself in contention for a starting spot in the new all Indian lineup.

We have good reason to believe that this lineup will be announced later in the week, after they were seen practicing on Sostronk yesterday. As for BondF, it is not clear whether he will be starting or not.

We reached out to Mammoth Gaming for a comment, but have received no reply thus far.

If our sources are believed to be correct, the lineup will be as follows:

  • Bhavin “HellrangeR” Kotwani
  • Norbu “karamil” Tsering
  • Saharyar “BaDman” Shaikh
  • Vishal “haivaan” Sharma
  • Chinmay “Pok1” Mehta
  • Rohit “BondF” Latke
