Evil Geniuses acquired by PEAK6 Investments

0

The North America based esports organisation, Evil Geniuses has been acquired by PEAK6 a Chicago-based investment firm. PEAK6 also appointed a new CEO for the organisation as part of deal.

Evil Geniuses was previously owned and funded by Twitch, in 2016 Twitch divested itself of the organisation and gave ownership powers to players and selected management.

With Twitchโ€™s exit, Phillip Aram took the role of COO in 2017, a year after the split-up. The announcement by Evil Geniuses highlighted how Phillips had been hard pressed for searching for a suitable investor.

Evil Geniuses currently competes in games such as Dota 2, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Rocket League. The organization also recently signed a sponsorship deal with Razer and is already sponsored by Monster Energy and Xfinity.

According to PEAK6โ€™s release,Phillips will still remain as the COO of Evil Geniuses and will work alongside Nicole LaPointe Jameson, previously an associate in PEAK6โ€™s Strategic Capital division, who will serve as the teamโ€™s new CEO and will work to secure additional partnerships for the team. Although no further details of the deal were disclosed at the moment and the team also decline to provide details when asked for additional information.

This is PEAK6โ€™s first venture into the world of professional esports. With no prior knowledge about the esports industry as a whole, the fans of the team are currently sceptical about the move and with new CEO not being from the scene the confidence about this move isnโ€™t that high among fans. but Jameson also have enough experience to back up his role and since the team have access to more resources now the future doesnโ€™t look that bad.

Official: Boombl4 joins Na’Vi

Natus Vincere have formally announced the addition of Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov into their CS:GO lineup. This roster move comes in after 18 months of a stable roster. 20 year-old Russian will be replacing Ioann “Edward” Sukhariev on the roster.

Kirill received prominent recognition after ELEAGUE Major Boston backed by Quantum Bellator Fire’s (QBF) impressive run and solid display of individual skills. Although, the responsibility on his shoulder is bigger than ever, he has quite a lot to prove.

“I am grateful to Natus Vincere and the players for this opportunity. I will give it my all every game, every tournament, no matter what. Thereโ€™s lots of work to be done, thanks to fans for the support.”

“I wonโ€™t be talking big, I am used to letting my actions speak for me, not words,” said Kirill.

Natus Vincere will have a period of little over a month to practice with the revamped lineup. Kirill will make his debut with the new lineup at ESL One: Cologne 2019:-

  • Egorย “flamie”ย Vasilyev
  • Danyloย “Zeus”ย Teslenko
  • Aleksandrย “s1mple”ย Kostyliev
  • Denisย “electronic”ย Sharipov
  • Kirillย “Boombl4”ย Mikhailov
  • Mikhayloย “Kane”ย Blaginย (coach)

TalkEsport had earlier published a Natus Vincere fantasy lineup. The article featured Kirillย “Boombl4”ย Mikhailov.

Valveโ€™s Artifact became popular on Twitch but not for gameplay rather for porn and illegal content

Valveโ€™s latest game Artifact is a failure for the company as the interest in game died within 2 weeks after its launch. The game can hardly manage to pull 500 peak players or even more than 200 concurrent players at a time, but the game has become a sensational hit among some trolls on Twitch.

Twitchโ€™s Artifact section was one of siteโ€™s least popular section and was largely unused, until some trolls saw this as an opportunity and hijackedthis section to livestream content that largely violated Twitchโ€™s own TOS (Terms of Service).

It all started with some trolls using bots to stream memes or meme videos in loops for hours. But a simple joke soon turned into a category of streamsfilled with random crap which included reruns of popular streamerโ€™s gameplay; TV series marathons (latest season of Game of Thrones); entire movies (cam-print of Avengers:Endgame);pornography, hentai amines or in some extreme cases videos of hate speech and terror attack in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Some people started tweeting about the content being streamed under Artifact category on Twitch with some big names like Rod Breslau (aka Slasher) calling out Twitch for this slipup. Although even after reports of illegal and hate filled content being streamed, Twitch was slow to act and trolls were able to stream more than 30minutes of the Christchurch Terror attack.

Rodโ€™s tweet ultimately got Twitchโ€™s attention and the stream was taken down immediately with channel and videos of the same being deleted. But this isnโ€™t the first time things like this has happened which clearly shows Twitchโ€™s inability to properly moderate TOS compliant content on their site. This became evident after Twitch let trolls exploit Artifact section for days without taking a notice of the situation or even acknowledging it.

Soon the Twitch Support tweeted in response to the โ€œexploitโ€ and said:

โ€œOver the weekend we became aware of a number of accounts targeting the “Artifact” game directory to share content that grossly violates our terms of service. Our investigations uncovered that the majority of accounts that shared and viewed the content were automated.โ€

They soon posted a follow-up tweet stating that they were working on removing the content and suspending all accounts related to said content and apologised for this mess-up. As a follow-up measure to stop this exploit running amok again Twitch has temporarily suspended new accounts ability to stream on the platform.

But the question still remains how such a big platform can effectively moderate the content being streamed on their site that remains compliant to their own TOS. Twitchโ€™s temporary measures are just Kneejerk reaction to exploit. We can only hope that Twitch would come up with a better solution after this mess-up so this doesnโ€™t affect genuine streamers and games.

huNter – Coming of age & out of Nikoโ€™s shadow

Nemanja โ€˜huNterโ€™ Kovac has been making waves in the Counter-Strike circuit with his raw ability and often unmatched precision. The hybrid star though, has often been compared to his cousin Niko โ€˜Nikoโ€™ Kovac and continues to remain in the Faze Clan superstarโ€™s shadows. But, for how long?

huNter had a very disingenuous start to his Counter Strike Global Offensive career with iNation along with current teammate LETN1. His initial days on the roster were quite shaky, with unimpressive statistics on the server. But, the Serbian soon got a grip of the essentials of competitive play and began his slow but steady rise.

While 2016 wasnโ€™t as impressive, 2017 saw huNter post an overall rating of 1.36 on Lan for iNation. The lineup was then snapped up by Binary Dragons and huNter produced staggering but steady numbers under the new banner.

Over the period of more than one and a half years, huNter posted a sub-1.00 rating in just 5 events. That the Serbian played a total of 35 events including qualifiers under the banner makes the aforementioned statistic even more impressive.

Interestingly, the lineup stuck together for the longest of times and continued to do so, albeit under the banner of Valiance. The lineup was untouched till February 2018 and despite just four months under the new organization, huNter had positioned himself amicably as a prospect to keep an eye on, recording an overall rating of 1.24 during the period, the highest on the team by a fair margin.

There have been different variations of the Valiance roster since then. But, in November, 2018, the organizationโ€™s decision to add OttoNd, nexa and EspiranTo is paying dividends, with huNter and LETN1 the only players left from the haydays of iNation.

While huNter is now surrounded by mechanically stronger players compared to previous iterations, the Serbian has continued to shine on the server, posting an average rating of 1.23, the highest on the current roster. But, with everyone pulling their own weight and more, Hunter is finally tasting success and getting chances to prove himself against the best of teams.

Dreamhack Open Tours was the latest example of just how impressive huNterโ€™s skillset has become. The Serbian was the highest rated Valiance player as the lineup recorded impressive wins over Mousesports in a best of 1 and over G2 in the semi-finals over three maps before falling to mousesports in the final.

But, the event was enough to raise the expectations of the Serbian scene from huNter, if it wasnโ€™t high enough already.

The player clearly stands out among the five Valiance players, despite the current roster consisting of the likes of nexa, who has played on Tier-1 teams for a fair bit and EspiranTo, who had tasted success in the semi Tier-1 or Tier-2 tournaments and has been hailed as a prodigy.

Photo: HLTV

While huNterโ€™s competitive Counter-Strike history has shown a penchant for sticking to the same roster and the current iteration of Valiance does seem to be on the right path, there is no denying the fact that the Serbian looks ready for a big team.

There arenโ€™t many options to consider when thinking of teams that will be a fit for huNter, both on the server and off it. On the low side of things, Cloud 9 could be an enterprising option. The North American organization are still looking for the best combination to take the organization forward in the scene.

In Europe, BIG have started branching out a bit and if Denis isnโ€™t able to perform well enough upon his return to the organization, huNter will represent a viable gamble for the lineup, who did so with XANTARES and the Turkish superstar is finally starting to get into his rhythm in BIG.

There are obvious organizations that perhaps, would be the goal for huNter. Mousesports are known to bring in a gamut of mercurial stars and could very well target huNter in the next shuffle, if the current iteration fails to achieve a better status within the scene when compared to the previous one.

But, playing alongside his cousin at Faze Clan would surely take the cake. The North American organization are currently trying out NEO as the fifth, with the Polish veteran taking over the role of IGL from Niko.

But, should the experiment fail, we could see Niko return to being the IGL and Faze aim to bring in a raw talent like huNter, who would surely fit in well with Niko under the tutelage of compatriot YNk.

An alternative way in for huNter could be the departure of either Rain or Olofmeister. The two stars have not been lighting up the servers as consistently as earlier and could be on the chopping block in the near future.

Photo: HLTV

For now, huNter will likely be focused on continuing the momentum gained by the current Valiance to push for better results against top teams.

The Serbian might not be in a direct battle with his cousin. But, he is doing ever so well to not be called Nikoโ€™s cousin anymore. huNter has built up his own reputation in the scene with his performances. And it isnโ€™t long before we see the Serbian being mentioned in the same breath as other superstars of the Counter-Strike scene.

“If I wasn’t playing CSGO, would’ve been a chef or businessman”: Simar “psy” Sethi

In this interview, a continuation of our โ€œTalkesport Interactโ€ Series. Simar โ€œPayโ€ Sethi talks to us about his journey of being a professional player and sheds light on other aspects related to CSGO and the Indian Esports scenario.

Malav: Hey Psy, please share a little about yourself for our audiences who may not know you

psy: Sure! My name is Simar Sethi. I am from Delhi and I am 20 years old. I go by the name โ€˜psyโ€™ in-game. For the last 5 years, I have been at the top of Indian Counter-Strike, and Iโ€™m currently Entry and Secondary AWPer for Entity Gaming.

Malav: At what point in your life did you decide to go pro?

psy: Letโ€™s see… For the longest time in my cyber cafe life, I was ridiculed for being a rather bad player. At one point, I decided to change their perception of me completely and that led me down the path of being pro.

Malav: How did your parents feel when you told them you wanted to go pro? Do they support gaming as a profession now?

psy: There was hesitation in my family at the beginning, and frankly, I do not blame them. Everyone wants their parentsโ€™ instant support, but earning it in their eyes is what really counts. It took time, but I was able to do this. Till this date, my mother and father are my biggest fans!

Malav: Youโ€™ve been involved with the pro gaming scene since 2016. How do you find things have evolved with Indian esports?

Image may contain: 1 person

psy: There has been a significant improvement in the Indian esport scene. While there has been an influx of prize money, Indiaโ€™s talent pool has grown at a tremendous rate, and that is what truly matters.

Malav: Earlier in the year, HellRanger and you were benched by Entity only to be brought back to the main roster sometime later. What was the reason behind that decision?

psy: I would rather not answer this question. It is better for everyone.

Malav: You have been playing with two Serbian players, are there any communication barriers in the team?

psy: Their English is quite good. Unfortunately, Anuj, Excali, and I automatically switch to Hindi which is something that doesnโ€™t seem to stop anytime soon. Old habits die hard, you know?

Malav: How was the one-month boot camp in Serbia?

Photo: Entity Gaming

psy: The team prospered and individually, I too learned a lot and garnered some needed experience which will help out immensely in the future!

Malav: What do your personal practice and warm up routine consist of?

psy: Honestly, my personal schedule isnโ€™t where I would want it to be given my RSI (injury). Nevertheless, I religiously stick to ten minutes of Deathmatch and ten minutes of bots before diving into the competitive mindset.

Malav: If you werenโ€™t playing CS, what would you be doing?

psy: Without second thoughts, Iโ€™ll say that I would be either a chef-cum-businessman.

Malav: What factors affect your game the most when playing?

psy: I am an emotional player. Factors such as the team atmosphere or if there is something off in my life, it ends up affecting my performance. However, I also consider the emotional turbulence one of my strong suits because that powers my performance to a great degree.

Malav: One thing you would change in CSGO?

psy: I would add Tuscan and remove Overpass. Hate that map. ?

Malav: Describe your teammates in one word (Excali, Ameratsu, Dav, Djoxic)

psy: Excali is a silent assassin.

Amaterasu is a mad man.

Dav is the ringleader.

Djoxic is the rager. ?

Malav: Who do you think will be the breakout players for the year in the Indian scene?

psy: I see a lot of potential in Team JHS and God Particles. Players such as BADlove, Juven, Knightrider, and Ember have what it takes to go the distance if they remain committed with dedication and proper mentality fit for being part of the esports scene.

Malav: Any last words you would like to say?

psy: As mentioned on my fan page, even though I have RSI, Iโ€™m making a promise to myself and to my fans that I shall always deliver. Always.

A big shoutout to my fans (psy army) for their love and support.

I want to thank psy for his time and wish him the best of luck on his new endeavours with Entity Gaming. Donโ€™t forget to check out his social media pages and stay tuned:

Five Must Have CSGO Binds For Pros

To play CS:GO without utilizing binds is akin to watching a movie without the lights dimmed, plenty of snacks by your side and way too much soda on hand. Sure, it works – but you wonโ€™t be getting the most out of the experience as possible. CSGO Binds are an important aspect of the game.

A bind is a specific action or command in CS:GO that is triggered when a key on your keyboard, or a button on your mouse, is pressed. Because binds can perform any number of actions with the press of just one key, they are very, very valuable tools.

CSGO Binds

Binds can vary in complexity. For example, one may simply send a message in the chat when you hit a key, but others can do everything from up your game volume in key situations to removing any blemishes from the map.

In short, they are invaluable. Thatโ€™s why weโ€™ve compiled our five favorites from Total CS:GO’s list of binds, to ensure youโ€™re getting the most out of your CS:GO games as possible.

After using these binds, you wonโ€™t be going back to a bind-less lifestyle again.

1. Increasing Your Volume When Walking

You know those really tense clutch moments, when itโ€™s you and an enemy on a bomb site, but you donโ€™t know exactly where they are? Thatโ€™s what this bind is for.

It will increase your in-game volume whenever you are walking in-game. And, since you will typically only walk when youโ€™re being sneaky-beaky like, thatโ€™s when you need to be most aware of your surrounding noises. Hearing an enemy step, or reload, or drop down from somewhere can be the information you need to win a round at times, so this is a bind weโ€™d highly recommend using.

The best thing? When you stop walking, your game volume will be returned to normal, so thereโ€™s really no downside to this one!

alias +incvol "incrementvar volume 0 2 0.5;+speed";alias -incvol "incrementvar volume 0 2 -0.5;-speed";bind SHIFT +incvol

2. Grenade Binds

This one is simple and should be the first step a newer player of the game takes to improve their skill.

By default, to access your grenades in CS:GO you need to either press 4 on your keyboard multiple times to cycle through everything, or scroll on your mouse wheel. Having to press 4 until you hit the right grenade can get you killed in a tense situation, and using the scroll weapon to access your nades is never okay.

What makes a lot more sense, however, is binding each of your 4 grenades to a unique key on your keyboard. This way, when your teammate asks for a flash so he can push through that smoke on Cobble B Long and get himself killed, you can at least accommodate his wishes without cycling through your grenades like an unorganized anarchist.

Using the bind below will bind the 4 grenades in CS:GO – your flashbang, smoke grenade, HE grenade and molotov/incendiary – to Z, X, C and V respectively. Try it out one game, and youโ€™ll kick yourself for not using it sooner.

bind z "use weapon_flashbang";bind x "use weapon_smokegrenade";bind c "use weapon_hegrenade";bind v "use weapon_molotov;use weapon_incgrenade"

3. Drop Bomb Bind

You know the routine. Youโ€™re playing on the T side of Mirage and you spawn with the bomb. You know you should take it with your team, keeping it close but out of sight until youโ€™ve decided which bomb site youโ€™ll take. But, youโ€™ve got a good Mid spawn and you really want to get revenge on that annoying Mid player who keeps picking you.

Itโ€™s simply a waste of time to have to equip your bomb just to drop it, and is especially harmful when you need to drop it to a teammate in a high-pressure situation on a bombsite.

Thatโ€™s why itโ€™s really useful to create a bind that will drop the bomb with just the hit of a key. No delays, no hold ups. The command below will bind this action to the B key on your keyboard, but can be changed to whatever you prefer.

bind b "use weapon_knife; use weapon_c4; drop; slot1"

4. Jump Throw

โ€œIโ€™ll smoke CT!โ€

Brave words, but if youโ€™re smoking CT Spawn on Mirage, can you really count on hitting that jump throw perfectly? All it takes for that blasted AWPer who keeps stopping your A pushes from CT Spawn to have a clear shot at you and your teammates is for your jump to go slightly wrong.

For this reason, itโ€™s worth setting up a bind to make sure your grenades are falling with mechanical precision every time. Line up your crosshair as you have done hundred times before, and simply hit one key to throw a beautifully placed grenade. Whoโ€™d have thought weโ€™d be saying โ€œKobe!โ€ about smoke grenades?

The command below will bind a jump throw command to the ALT key, but this can be changed to whatever you please. It will need to be placed into your autoexec, or placed into your console each time you load up CS:GO and want to use it.

alias "+jumpthrow" "+jump;-attack"; alias "-jumpthrow" "-jump"; bind alt "+jumpthrow"

5. Clear Decals

The clear decals bind might seem like nothing major, but it provides a small advantage that could give you the edge you need in some situations. This is especially important in a game as competitive as CS:GO, which has has such a high skill ceiling – you really need every advantage possible to set yourself apart from the enemy.

What โ€œclearing your decalsโ€ does is remove all of the bullet holes and blood stains from around the map, so itโ€™s totally fresh and clean. And without sounding like your parent telling you to clean your room for no reason, there actually is a benefit to this.

Those blood stains and bullet holes can block certain โ€œlandmarksโ€ on the map that you need to line up smoke grenades for, making your smoke land away from its mark and therefore leave your team vulnerable.

Also, blood stains can make it harder to spot enemies on some maps, and the split second you lose there could tilt the result of the aim duel in the opposition’s favour.

The below bind will clear decals whenever you move (i.e. when you press W, A, S and D). This essentially removes all decals from the map, so they should never be a bother to you!

bind w "+forward;r_cleardecals";bind a "+moveleft;r_cleardecals";bind s "+back;r_cleardecals";bind d "+moveright;r_cleardecals"

You can also use this, more simple, command to bind clearing decals to N.

bind n "r_cleardecals"

Thatโ€™s the end of our crash course on a few of the greatest CSGO Binds you should be using. Now that youโ€™ve got a strange amount of knowledge of CS:GO binds, youโ€™re ready to add them to your game and conquer the world.

Now, go get โ€˜em.

Boombl4 to join Na’Vi: Reports

According to a couple of reports by 1pv.fr and HLTV, Natus Vincere are on the verge of signing Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov. The agreement between Natus Vincere and Winstrike is reported to be at a very advanced stage. 20-year-old will be replacing Ioann “Edward” Sukhariev on the lineup.

Natus Vincere will undergo this shuffle after a period of eighteen months. In this period, CIS squad triumped at ESL One: Cologne 2018, BLAST Pro Series: Copenhagen 2018, StarSeries i-League Season 5 & 7, CS:GO Asia Championship and DreamHack Open Winter 2017.

However, with this lineup, they failed to conquer the most vintage CS:GO event, the major. And this could further suggest a possible reason behind this move. S1mple and co. are not satisfied with top five placements. They want to win and they want to win big.

Ioann “Edward” Sukhariev has been a part of Natus Vincere since 2009 when Na’Vi came into action. However, for a short period he played for another organization but the legend has dedicated rest of his decade to the ‘yellow-black powerhouse’. Since Counter-Strike 1.6 days, he is reckoned as a popular figure throughout the Counter-Strike scene.

On the other hand, Kirill “Boombl4” Mikhailov rose to fame backed by Quantum Bellator Fire’s (QBF) impressive run at the ELEAGUE Major: Boston and strong individual skills. Kirill picks up the AWP and is the IGL for Winstrike. It still remains unclear whether Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev would be the primary AWP or him. Eventually, Aleksandr could return back to being a hybrid.

This move, in turn, creates more space within the Natus Vincere lineup to replace Danylo “Zeus” Teslenko in future as the 20-year-old is a capable in-game-leader.

If the move comes in action, the Ukraine majority lineup will turn to a Russia majority lineup:

  • Egorย “flamie”ย Vasilyev
  • Danyloย “Zeus”ย Teslenko
  • Aleksandrย “s1mple”ย Kostyliev
  • Denisย “electronic”ย Sharipov
  • Kirillย “Boombl4”ย Mikhailov
  • Mikhayloย “Kane”ย Blaginย (coach)

TalkEsport had earlier published a Natus Vincere fantasy lineup. The article featured Kirillย “Boombl4”ย Mikhailov.

Pita to Stand-in for Dennis at DreamHack Dallas – Day One

Ninjas in Pyjamas through their Twitter handle revealed that the Swedish legend, Dennis “dennis” Edman would not be able to make it for the day one at DreamHack Masters: Dallas 2019 due to VISA issues. “Due to issues with an address update on the ESTA for Dennis, he will be arriving to Dallas later than planned. The address update is subject to a 72 hours approval,” claimed the Tweet.

VISA issues have continuously been affecting the Counter-Strike pro scene or esport scene in general. Several tier one players have faced problem travelling overseas in the recent times. Professional players had to miss vintage events due to this. Sean โ€œGratisfactionโ€ Kaiwai, Vito โ€œkNgโ€ Giuseppe, Nikola โ€œNiKoโ€ Kovaฤ, Dauren โ€œAdreNโ€ Kystaubayev, ร–zgรผr โ€œw0xicโ€ Eke and several others faced problem with their respective VISAs.

NiP coach, Faruk “pita” Pita will be standing in for NiP against TyLoo on the first day. However, it is still unclear whether Dennis would be able to arrive before day two commences.

DreamHack Masters: Dallas 2019 will be held at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center from May 28 – June 02 with $250,000 USD on the stake. Sixteen teams from across the globe will be seen in action with double elimination GSL format.

Virtus.Pro win Adrenaline Cyber League, first event post 7.22 patch

The first event post the 7.22 Dota 2 patch was held at Loft Hall, Moscow on 25th and 26th May.

3 teams were directly invited to the event to compete for a prize pool of 1,00,000 USD.

  • Virtus.Pro
  • Natus Vincere
  • Evil Geniuses

The 4thteam, obtained via qualifiers was Team Spirit (ex-Old But Gold).

The format of the event was a single elimination bracket, with 2 semi-final games being played on Saturday and the grand finals on Sunday.

Both Virtus.Pro and Evil Geniuses played the event with stand-ins.

Rostislav “fn” Lozovoi played in place of Pavel โ€œ9pashaโ€ Khvastunov, while EG coach Kanishka ‘Sam’ “BuLba” Sosale played in place of team captain Tal “Fly” Aizik.

The first game of the semi-finals saw Evil Geniuses take on Team Spirit.

The result was not what someone would have expected, as Team Spirit beat EG 2-0.

The second semi-final game was a closely contested affair between CIS titans Natus Vincere and Virtus.Pro. Both teams tried their best but eventually Virtus.Pro came out on top to win 2-1 against Natus Vincere and set up a grand finals match against Team Spirit.

The Grand finals held on 26th May, 2019 was a one-sided affair with Virtus Pro destroying Team Spirit 3-0 and taking home the grand prize of 65,000 USD.

Final Standings:

  1. Virtus.Pro – $65,000
  2. Team Spirit – $25,000
  3. Evil Geniuses – $5000
  4. Natus Vincere – $5000

‘Gaming Disorder’ officially recognised as a disease by World Health Organisation

4

The rise of the gaming industry also saw a rise in number of people coming into the gaming ecosystem. With the waves of new games coming out many players get hooked to gaming and sometimes these games can or may become a hindrance for them impacting their life and health.ย

The World Health Organization in the latest update to its International Classification of Diseases (ICD) added โ€œgaming disorderโ€ as modern disease. According to WHO, gaming disorder is defined as โ€œa pattern of gaming behaviour (โ€œdigital-gamingโ€ or โ€œvideo-gamingโ€) characterized by impaired control over gaming, increasing priority given to gaming over other activities to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other interests and daily activities, and continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences.โ€

Representational Image

Basically, WHO suggests that a person playing games for uncontrolled long sessions such that they prioritize gaming over other activities and canโ€™t even stop themselves even if gaming starts impacting their physical and mental health negatively over time are affected by gaming disorder.

Although this definition by WHO doesnโ€™t mean all the โ€œGaming Professionalโ€ engaged in gaming suffer from the gaming disorder rather it only refers to normal people who gain nothing from daily long sessions of gaming and prefer to game over other important activities.

Many might argue that gaming disorder is a joke and a useless stint by WHO to classify gaming as a disorder, but you canโ€™t deny the fact that gaming is addictive to some and have caused real problems for them. Notably how some students will skip schools and studiesfor gaming; or how some might try to steal money for gaming; or how some reduce their sleep time so they can game some more. Gaming Addiction(aka gaming disorder) is real, but only affects a minority of the total gaming populace.

By recognizing gaming disorder as real modern disease WHO believes some countries will be encouraged to fund research on this topic and help with treatment for those already affected. Still the gaming disorder is unlikely to gain any traction amongst common people and in the medical field.

Meanwhile the gaming industry strongly disagree with WHOโ€™s decision and in a joint statement the Global Video Game Industry (including representatives from across Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, South Africa, and Brazil) called on WHOMember States to rethink their decision to include โ€œGaming Disorderโ€ in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). Further they said:

The WHO is an esteemed organization and its guidance needs to be based on regular, inclusive, and transparent reviews backed by independent experts. โ€˜Gaming disorderโ€™ is not based on sufficiently robust evidence to justify its inclusion in one of the WHOโ€™s most important norm-setting tools.

Itโ€™s still too early to say how this will affect the gaming industry in the future as the definition is still vague and governments all over the world might only make their move after research results come in (if they bother to do any in the first place). So, you can still hop onto your favourite game without any tension and game as much as you want but in moderation obviously.
