Shroud, and Tarik talk about Valorant Franchising

0

Valorant started as a competition for CSGO, with the Riot-endorsed esports scene and Riot’s plan to ensure there would be events throughout the year. Many CSGO and Overwatch professionals found the new opportunity and game exciting and switched to Valorant

The switch was significant in North America especially, considering a lack of CSGO in NA. With Valve doing little to nothing for CSGO, Many players switched from CSGO or Valorant.

Riot ensured everyone got a chance too by introducing the Valorant Champions Tour in 2021, with domestic and international events consummating in one Valorant Champions at the end of the season.

The exact format was followed in 2022, attracting a lot of organisations to invest in Valorant Esports in 2021 and 2022. With North America VCT NA Challengers Qualifier averaging 256 odd teams, a similar pattern was visible across the globe.

Valorant Franchising

But come July 2022, Riot revealed their plans for Valorant Esports 2023. The Valorant Esports 2023 can be summarised as follows:

  • Three Premier level leagues for World’s top team viz. Americas, Europe and Asia
  • Partnership programme for Organisations to be part of the Premier leagues, which Riot would shortlist.
  • Shortlisted teams to get an incentive to develop a good ecosystem for talent.
  • Consistent and Frequent Inter-Regional and Global tournaments
  • Additional Regional Leagues and Expansion of Current VCT system
  • A new in-game mode where players and team can showcase their talents to get into the Regional Leagues

While the new system looks absolutely amazing, many quickly point out the lack of clarity for the teams, which would fall outside the partnership program.

Riot does mention the domestic leagues, but the lack of explanation on how the teams would be selected for the Premier League system and what happens to the teams who are not selected and would the teams in the League change made a lot of organisations and players uncomfortable. The uncertainty led to many teams leaving the scene altogether.

While talking about the same, Tarik, Zellsis and Shroud mentioned that other teams need a slot to get into the Premier League. Zellsis mentions how the organisations are leaving the scene altogether as Riot has mentioned the establishment and expansion of the current VCT system.

At the same time, Tarik and Shroud point out the downsides of selecting a fixed number of teams without a qualifying tournament. While it has not been mentioned, looking at League of Legends, it is clear that there would be changes to the league, and the other teams would get a shot at making it to the Premier Leagues.

There also would be Inter-regional and Global tournaments for all the teams which don’t make it to the franchising, similar to the VRL EMEA Finals. While many points are yet to be clarified and will be soon, the establishment of a league and teams not getting a chance to be at the top of the crop has left teams trepid and leaving the scene.

We have to wait and see how the new system fares, The miscommunication seems to be the issue that has taken the World by storm.

Shroud Likely To Continue Pro Valorant Run

Michael “shroud” Grzesiek is known to many people as a popular streamer on Twitch, a former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) professional player, and most recently, the newest Valorant player for Sentinels.

Since he mainly had stopped competing in esports years ago in order to focus on content creation on Twitch, the news of his return to the industry has shocked fans all around the world.

After signing on to become the newest Controller player for Sentinels, he immediately began boot camp, practicing, and studying the fundamentals in an effort to become the best professional player in the ongoing Valorant Champions Tour Last Chance Qualifier.

Shroud disclosed on the 27th of July 2022 that he would be more likely to continue his career as a professional Valorant player if the competitive spotlight met his needs. The revelation of this information stunned fans since it indicated that the community may soon witness a new age in which epic rivalry dominates Valorant esports.

Since Shroud has already made his comeback to esports, the news that a professional Valorant player has stated that he may remain in the industry is enough to make any enthusiast who follows it joyful and content.

Shroud joined Sentinels over dinner after the team told him they needed a fifth member for VCT. He became a member of the Sentinels as a professional player of Valorant and took on the job of Controller on the squad.

Shroud Valorant

The first objective was to collaborate with Sentinels in order to advance past the North American VCT Last Chance Qualifiers, which were scheduled to begin on August 4th, 2022.

However, it appears that shroud might be accessible to tournaments other than those held by Valorant throughout this year.

The professional Valorant player known as shroud disclosed in his most recent stream that it is “probable” that he will compete in longer tournaments than the VCT LCQ 2022 and any other lesser tournaments in this year’s cycle.

The Valorant pro player decided his esports future didn’t have to be with Sentinels because the team hasn’t received a VCT partnership placement. If a “franchising” organization were near him, he’d play professional Valorant.

Shroud did not specify how much time or effort he had invested in his professional Valorant career, but his statement indicates he is likely just getting started. However, naturally, this is only the case if he satisfies the standards.

No matter how you look at it, whether you are a fan of Valorant or a shroud follower, the fact that he is playing in esports is already a godsend for the esports community.

Fans all across the world may therefore anticipate that Sentinels will deliver high-quality video and plays in the following weeks, regardless of whether he continues to play competitive Valorant or not.

Gaming Publishers Write to PM Modi, “Shaken” by BGMI Ban

Several gaming firms from India have requested PM Modi to offer a uniform and fair treatment to entities operating in the South Asian market. In a letter written to the Prime minister of India, the group has explained the impact of BGMI ban and its adversity.

Gaming firms described the BGMI ban as an unfortunate event and said “arbitrary decisions run counter to established principles and will deny opportunities to an entire generation of youth in India.”

BGMI was recently banned in India under the Section 69 (A) of IT Act. Since the ban, several high profile tournaments that were lined up have been postponed indefinitely and this has led to a stagnant growth in BGMI esports in the last couple of weeks.

The letter, signed by founders of Outlier Games, Story Pix, Lucid Labs, Roach Interactive, Godspeed Games, Uniplay Digital and four other firms, mentioned that India has been “lagging considerably in creating high skilled entrepreneurs and global gaming giants have taken a “long-term vision” on fostering the local ecosystem.”

According to TechCrunch, the following was also mentioned in the letter written to PM Modi by the group:

“While capital and infrastructure are critical to the survival and development of the industry, the leading global video gaming companies with their experience and next-generation technology are needed for establishing a robust gaming eco-system in India. Therefore, we seek a uniform and fair treatment of all entities operating in India.”
