Krafton to make a new version of PUBG Mobile for Asian Games

Krafton Inc. is developing a new version of PUBG Mobile specifically designed for the esports edition of upcoming Asian Games 2022. PUBG Mobile was selected as one of the eight medal titles for this event and hence, the developers are tasked with creating a common game for every participating region.

PUBG Mobile is currently employed in various forms over the globe with several localized versions as well as some in different forms as well. The PUBG Mobile counterpart in China is termed as Game for Peace and it is known as BGMI in India.

These differences could make it difficult for the organizers to find a common platform to host the event and hence, the developers are tasked with creating a common version. According to a report by Dot Esports, Krafton is developing a new version of PUBG Mobile with the PUBG IP.

PUBG Mobile strategic marketing development at Krafton Minu Lee said, “I’m glad that PUBG Mobile is selected as the official medal event at the Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, which will be an opportunity for people from all over Asia to come together as one. I hope that fans and players will be able to unite through a new version on PUBG Mobile, which we developed with PUBG IP specifically for the Asian Games.”

This statement suggests that Krafton is developing the Asian Games version of PUBG Mobile even though the global version is developed and maintained by Tencent Games. Clarification has not been posted by any parties yet.

Asian Games 2022 will host esports alongside the traditional events for the first time in history and the medals will be counted in the official tally. This is a huge milestone for gaming as a whole and to deliver the top-notch performance, Asian Games version of PUBG Mobile and Honor of Kings will be employed at the main event.

A report also clarified that India will be able to participate in the Asian Games 2022 esports events and hence, fans can expect Indian representatives in PUBG Mobile and other titles.
