GTA 6 Blocks PS5 Jailbreaks With Mandatory Firmware 14.10 Update, Datamine Reveals

GTA 6 blocks PS5 jailbreaks with a mandatory firmware 14.10 update. Jailbroken consoles on 13.60 can't run it. Here's what changes and how to update.

GTA 6 blocks PS5 jailbreaks by requiring firmware 14.10.00.00 or newer, according to PlayStation Store data found on October 2, 2026. For most players, that means one small update before November 19. Jailbroken consoles are a different story.

The GTA 6 PS5 firmware detail came from PlayStation Game Size, an account that tracks the PlayStation Store backend. Its post was one line long: “Grand Theft Auto VI requires at least PS5 Update 14.10.00.00.” Rockstar Games and Sony have not commented. Until one of them does, treat it as a datamine and not an official spec.

What the PS5 firmware 14.10 update changes for GTA 6

Sony started rolling out update 26.06-14.10.00 on October 1. The official notes are two lines long. One says Sony “made some security fixes to the system software,” and the other mentions better performance and stability. Our PS5 update 26.06-14.10.00 patch notes breakdown has the full download steps.

Sony never names the exploits it patches. The dates are worth a look anyway. Firmware 14.00 landed on September 16 and caused problems for the Relapse exploit, and two weeks later 14.10 arrived with more security fixes, as Notebookcheck reported.

Why GTA 6 won’t run on jailbroken PS5 consoles

Public PS5 jailbreak support currently stops at firmware 13.60. Relapse, the best-known recent exploit, used a flaw in the console’s web browser to get kernel-level access. Owners could then run homebrew apps and some game backups, though compatibility was patchy.

A 14.10 minimum puts those owners in a bind. Anyone who updates loses the jailbreak. Skip the update and GTA 6 simply won’t boot. As of October 4, 2026, there is no public exploit for 14.10 and no known way to run the game on older firmware.

Where your PS5 standsCan you play GTA 6 at launch?
Already on 14.10 or newerYes
Older official firmware, connected to the internetYes, after the update installs
Older official firmware, offlineYes, after updating by USB or from the game disc
Jailbroken on 13.60 or lowerOnly after updating, which removes the jailbreak

Is Rockstar blocking PS5 jailbreaks in GTA 6 on purpose?

Nobody has said so. Big games often ship with a recent firmware floor because they’re built on a newer version of Sony’s developer kit, and that alone can set the minimum.

GTA 6 is one of the largest launches of 2026. A firmware requirement shuts the easiest piracy route on day one whether anyone planned it or not, and only Rockstar or Sony can say which it was.

How to check your PS5 firmware and install the 14.10 update for GTA 6

Most players won’t need to do anything. A PS5 that stays online with automatic updates switched on either has 14.10 already or will get it soon.

To check your version, open Settings, go to System, then System Software, and select Console Information.

To update by hand:

  1. Open Settings > System > System Software.
  2. Select System Software Update and Settings.
  3. Choose Update System Software, then Update Using Internet.

No internet at home? Sony’s official PS5 update guide shows how to install the update file from a USB drive. Disc buyers have a backup too. PS5 game discs usually carry the system update they need and will ask you to install it before the game starts.

Should you update your PS5 before GTA 6 launches?

If your console is unmodified, yes. Waiting gets you nothing. Updating now also means no firmware prompt on November 19, when PlayStation Network traffic will probably spike.

Jailbreak owners have a harder call to make. The PS5 hacking scene has gotten past newer firmware before, but nobody has shown a working 14.10 exploit, and nobody has given a timeline for one.

What’s still unconfirmed

Rockstar hasn’t published official PS5 requirements for GTA 6. Sony hasn’t tied 14.10 to Relapse or any other exploit. If Sony ships another system update before launch, the minimum in the final build could move higher. Nothing similar has been reported for Xbox Series X|S so far.

Pre-orders and edition details are on Rockstar’s official GTA VI page. For price, map and characters, our GTA 6 guide covers everything confirmed so far, and the GTA 6 timeline tracks every delay and reveal on the road to launch.
