CS2 Releases Small Update to Fix Silent Reload

Valve's latest CS2 patch fixes loud reload sounds during silent reloads, closes gaps in Rush arenas and lets custom servers turn off clan tags.

Valve has released another Counter-Strike 2 update, the fourth since the Rush Hour update arrived on September 22. The patch went live on September 25 Pacific Time, which is the early hours of September 26 in India.

It is a small update. It fixes a sound bug with silent reloads, closes more gaps in Rush arenas, gives custom server owners control over clan tags, and makes one cosmetic change to the main menu. Valve posted the changes in its official release notes on Steam.

Silent reload sound fix

Silent reloading was the main gameplay change in the Rush Hour update. Players hold the reload key to reload without the usual audio. In exchange, the reload takes longer.

Valve says there were cases where the normal loud reload sound kept playing even when a player was trying to reload silently. When that happens, enemies can still hear the reload and work out where the player is. This update fixes some of those cases. Valve’s wording says “some cases,” so other versions of the bug may still exist.

This is the third patch in a row to touch silent reloads. In the previous CS2 patch, Valve removed a trick that made silent reloads slightly faster when players tapped the reload key before holding it. It also fixed a bug that let shotguns fire faster than normal through silent reloads.

Rush mode gap and clipping fixes

Rush is a 3v3 queued mode. Teams fight through randomly chosen arenas to reach the enemy castle, and each round is short and played in tight spaces.

Valve listed gap fixes and clipping adjustments for Rush but did not name specific arenas. Gaps in map geometry can let players see or shoot through spots they should not. Clipping controls the invisible boundaries that decide where players can walk, jump, and throw grenades.

The last update also had Rush clipping changes. Those came after players found places where they could pass through walls and shipping containers.

New sv_clantags_enabled server command

Clan tags returned to CS2 with the Rush Hour update. Players in a Steam group can pick that group’s tag from their profile, and it appears next to their name in-game.

The new sv_clantags_enabled option lets operators of custom servers disable those tags. Community servers and third-party tournament setups now have the choice to hide them.

Valve did not list the default value. Source 2 server variables like this one normally use 1 for on and 0 for off, so adding sv_clantags_enabled 0 to a server config should hide tags. Server owners can confirm the current value by typing the command into the console.

Eggs in main menu lobbies now sit in nests

The last change is visual. The main menu shows other lobby members in the background, and the eggs shown with them now rest in nests.

These are the chicken eggs players found after the Rush Hour patch. Valve left them out of the September 22 notes, and players have been working out how the hatching system works on their own. Valve has not shared further details about the eggs.

Here are the official patch notes:

[ RUSH ]

  • Various gap fixes and clipping adjustments.

[ GAMEPLAY ]

  • Fixed some cases where loud reloads would persist while trying to stealth reload.

[ MISC ]
