The CS2 crosshair update is now live after Valve rolled back the patch because of launch crashes. Valve released the update on October 1, 2026. It adds a new Static Quadrant style, an outline color option, and grenade crosshairs during freeze time. The download is around 700 MB. Matchmaking was briefly unavailable after the rollback, but the issue has since been fixed.
Below are the full patch notes, rollback details, and a recap of the earlier crosshair overhaul.
CS2 Crosshair Update Patch Notes
Valve’s October 1 notes focus mainly on the crosshair system. They also include one fix for Rush maps. Here is the official patch note:
[ MISC ]
- Various clipping fixes in Rush maps
[ CROSSHAIR ]
- Fixed visualization of weapon inaccuracy + spread
- Added crosshair outline color option
- Added a new style “Static Quadrant”
- Enabled grenade crosshairs in freeze time for insta-smokes (just hold any grenade attack button)
- Allowed negative gaps for classic dynamic crosshair style
- Changed the classic dynamic crosshair alpha increments to 0.01
- Scope dot scale and color preferences are now included in the new crosshair share code
- Changed the format of the crosshair share code to accommodate newly included crosshair settings
Freeze-Time Grenade Crosshairs
Players could not use the grenade crosshair until freeze time ended. That has changed. Players can now hold any grenade attack button during freeze time to see it. Valve says this is meant for insta-smokes.
Static Quadrant Style
Static Quadrant follows the Static Square style, which Valve added in an earlier patch. It continues the crosshair overhaul that arrived with the Rush Hour update.
CS2 Update Rollback: What Happened
Valve temporarily rolled back the update after players reported launch crashes. Matchmaking was also briefly unavailable after the rollback. Valve fixed that issue, and the game returned to the previous working build. The update is now live after the rollback.
Earlier CS2 Crosshair Overhaul
The October 1 patch builds on changes from the September 23, 2026 Rush Hour update. Valve rebuilt the crosshair system in that release.
Valve gave an example of the pixel system. A crosshair with a 1-pixel width, an 8-pixel bar length, and a 4-pixel gap uses thickness 1, length 8, and gap 4.
A previous hotfix added automatic rescaling. A crosshair set at 1280×720 with a thickness of 2 pixels now scales to 4 pixels at 2560×1440. The proportions stay the same.
Valve has also fixed Rush map issues in several patches since launch. The latest update adds more clipping fixes. Valve has adjusted map geometry alongside its crosshair and gameplay changes.
