T1 Star Faker Targeted by Death Threats, Police Launch Investigation

In the wake of a significant win during the League of Legends LCK 2023 Summer Playoffs, Lee “Faker”, a renowned player, has been thrust into an alarming situation. The victory, while a cause for celebration, has also brought with it a dark cloud of threats and concerns for the player’s safety.

After T1’s triumphant win against KT Rolster, an ominous message surfaced online, targeting Faker. The message chillingly read, “I am going to go to the T1 hostel where Faker is staying and hurt him with a scar.” This has understandably caused a significant amount of distress within the esports community.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, upon being alerted about the threat at around 10:00 pm KST on August 10, swiftly initiated an investigation. The case, primarily centered in Seoul, was later transferred to the Daejeon Police Agency. Their primary objective now is to trace the internet address (IP) to identify and apprehend the individual behind the threat.

The League of Legends organization, T1, didn’t remain silent on the matter. They acknowledged the online threats against Faker and stated, “We confirmed that there have been disgraceful comments posted in online communities about Faker yesterday. On a team level, we have reported it to the police, and we are actively responding and moving for the safety of the players.”

Given the gravity of the situation, the LCK has decided to bolster security measures for the upcoming Playoffs and Finals. Fans attending the matches at LoL Park will now undergo rigorous security checks. These measures include detailed bag searches, increased security personnel both inside and outside the arena, and enhanced emergency response equipment. Both T1 and law enforcement agencies are committed to ensuring the safety of all players.
