Omegle officially shut down after 14 years

0

Popular video chatting application Omegle has been officially shut down by its creators after a prolonged legal battle.

Omegle was launched with the idea of connecting people from all over the world that would help in sharing thoughts and ideas aimed at forming friendships that in no time have turned into something far from what it was. Omegle users got a kick out of meeting strangers and forming surprising bonds with people that they might not meet again but now it has turned into a source of suggestive content.

Since meeting with strangers online has its potential risks, several authorities and organisations weren’t much of a fan of Omegle’s ideas to begin with, especially when dealing with minors. The founder, Leif K-Brooks announced that the forces opposing their existence has finally got the better of them which has prompted Omegle to be shut down.

“Over the years, people have used Omegle to explore foreign cultures; to get advice about their lives from impartial third parties; and to help alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation,”

“Virtually every tool can be used for good or for evil, and that is especially true of communication tools, due to their innate flexibility,” Brooks posited. They were however firmly against the idea of completely eliminating something with the potential for good, solely because there is also a potential for harm. “Analogies are a limited tool, but a physical-world analogy might be shutting down Central Park because crime occurs there,” “Or perhaps more provocatively, destroying the universe because it contains evil.”

In his heartfelt message, Brooks harped on the fact that Omegle is a tool that can used “for good or for evil.”. While there are obvious downsides to the system, we cannot ignore the fact that the ideas on which the foundation of Omegle was laid deserved a better ending than this. Omegle has helped its users with loneliness and isolation which is an obvious upside that is being ignored by the parties that are against its existence.

CS2 Update Fixes Sub-Tick Feedback

The world of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) has witnessed a significant leap forward with the introduction of a transformative update that the gaming community was expecting. This latest patch has brought a suite of enhancements that refine the gameplay experience, making it more intuitive and responsive than ever before.

Enhanced Feedback for Sharper Gameplay

One of the most critical updates is the overhaul of visual and audio feedback mechanisms. Players had previously noted a disconnect between the action of shooting and the corresponding sensory feedback. The new update has meticulously synchronized the feedback to occur in the immediate next frame, ensuring that players experience a more cohesive and accurate representation of their actions in-game.

Bullet Spread Synchronization

In a move that will delight sharpshooters, the update has introduced a default synchronization of bullet spread between the client and server. This adjustment means that the visual tracers and impact decals now more closely mirror the server’s authoritative trajectory, providing a more realistic shooting experience.

Matchmaking and Team Dynamics

The dynamics of team play have also received attention in this update. Notably, teams of four can now enter the matchmaking queue for Premier mode, a change that is sure to impact team strategies and gameplay. Additionally, to foster fair play and team integrity, the update has granted immunity from being vote-kicked to solo players who find themselves paired with a four-player party.

Audio Improvements for an Immersive Experience

The auditory landscape of CS2 has been fine-tuned for an even more immersive experience. The update has reduced the maximum audible distance for grenade bounces and improved the occlusion filter quality, among other changes. These adjustments ensure that the audio cues players rely on are more precise and indicative of the in-game action.

Map and Effects: Aesthetic and Functional Tweaks

The update extends its reach to the visual domain, with map tweaks such as the alignment of the A site box height to its CSGO counterpart, enhancing familiarity and consistency across the Counter-Strike franchise. The effects have not been left untouched, with performance improvements to close-range blood effects and a reduction in muzzle flash intensity during rapid weapon switches.

Let’s take a look at the official patch notes:

Release Notes for 11/8/2023

[ GAMEPLAY ]

  • The visual and audio feedback from sub-tick input—such as movement acceleration and muzzle flashes—will now always render on the next frame
  • Random numbers used for shooting spread are now synchronized between clients and servers by default. This makes tracers and decals match their server-authoritative trajectories more closely. Note: Spread has been synchronized on Valve official servers since 10/14
  • Fixed a bug where pressing a movement key immediately after jumping resulted in an inconsistent jump height

[ MATCHMAKING ]

  • Parties of four are now able to queue for Premier mode
  • Added vote-kick immunity for solo players who get matched on the same team with a party of four players
  • Adjusted the algorithm for re-establishing CS Rating after a period of inactivity in Premier mode

[ AUDIO ]

  • Reduced the maximum audible distance of grenade bounce sounds
  • Improved occlusion filter quality
  • Addressed issue where sometimes headshot dink sounds playing as feedback for the attacker could be mistaken for incoming damage
  • Lowered volume of sound for headshot damage with no armor from a victims perspective to bring it inline with volume of other headshot sounds
  • Changed jump land sounds to have the same maximum audible distance as footstep sounds
  • Changed volume falloff curve of jump landing sounds to better convey distance
  • Improved molotov extinguish effects to sound better when multiple are playing at once
  • Brought back spark sound feedback when bomb defuse is cut short due to player spinning
  • Fixed issue where at very close proximity, a victims death groan could be mistaken as coming from the attacker
  • Fixed a case where unsilenced m4a1-s did not have any distant gunfire sounds

[ MAPS ]

Mirage

  • Fixed clipping on bench in palace
  • Lowered the height of box on A site to match CS:GO

[ EFFECTS ]

  • Improved performance of blood effects at close range
  • Improved bomb light visibility from back of bomb
  • Reduced muzzle flash during quickswitch from scoped rifles
  • Reduced the strength of the kill streak HUD effect after five kills

[ CSTV ]

  • Added setting “tv_record_immediate” to control when CSTV demo file will start recording content. If the setting is enabled then content will start at the moment when tv_record is executed on the server. If the setting is disabled then content will start recording from tv_delay earlier
  • CSTV demos can now be recorded without delayed CSTV spectating enabled. Requires setting “tv_record_immediate 1” and executing “tv_record” at the moment when recording should start

[ MISC ]

  • Adjusted wear values of some stickers to better match CSGO
  • Fixed a bug with workshop tools that would prevent light_environment from baking static shadows in some circumstances
  • Improved quality of ‘Performance’ HDR rendering mode
  • Enabling the upload of workshop maps for Wingman mode

This update represents a significant stride in the evolution of CS2, delivering a suite of improvements that refine the core aspects of gameplay. With a focus on precision, responsiveness, and immersive gameplay, the latest patch ensures that CS2 continues to offer a competitive and engaging experience for new players and veterans alike.

Google Declares 30% Isn’t a Monopoly Fee as Epic’s Antitrust Case Starts in Federal Court

0

The tension between app developers and platform holders has reached a new pinnacle. Epic Games, the creator of the popular battle royale Fortnite, is ready for a legal fight against Google, challenging the tech giant’s policies on its Play Store. This confrontation is not just a corporate skirmish; it’s a fight that could redefine the rules of the digital marketplace.

At the core of this legal battle is Epic’s assertion that Google’s Play Store exerts monopolistic control, stifling competition and innovation. By enforcing stringent rules and hefty fees on in-app purchases, Google stands accused of leveraging its colossal presence to maintain an unfair advantage over app developers.

Google’s Play Store is a behemoth in the app distribution world, and its financial model is built on the commissions it charges for in-app transactions. Epic’s challenge to this revenue stream could compel Google to loosen its grip, potentially allowing developers to bypass these fees and offer alternative payment methods.

Epic vs. Apple

This legal tussle mirrors a similar case that Epic launched against Apple. Although the outcomes leaned heavily in favor of Apple, the case against Google is a fresh battlefield with its own set of dynamics and potential outcomes.

The outcome of Epic vs. Google will have far-reaching implications. A victory for Epic could embolden other developers to challenge the status quo, leading to a more open and competitive app market. Conversely, a win for Google could reinforce the current power structures within the tech industry.

Aligning with this milestone, The Game Awards in December could serve as the perfect platform for the first official glimpse of GTA VI, offering fans a long-desired look at the game’s direction.

CS2 Bug Lets Players Avoid Flashbangs

A recent discovery within CS2 has brought to light a significant glitch. Players have stumbled upon an anomaly where flashbang grenades, a staple in strategic gameplay, lose their disorienting effect, leaving affected players completely unblinded and able to continue their assault unimpeded.

This glitch presents a serious challenge to the fairness of matches. Flashbangs are designed to temporarily incapacitate opponents, offering a tactical advantage. With this bug in play, the expected dynamics of encounters are turned on their head, potentially leading to unearned victories and frustrating experiences for those on the receiving end of this exploit.

The community’s response was swift, with a consensus that this issue requires urgent attention from the developers. The expectation is that a patch will be released promptly to rectify this glitch, as it has the potential to significantly disrupt competitive play. In the interim, players are left in a quandary: to exploit or not to exploit this newfound power.

The discovery of such a bug is a reminder of the ever-evolving nature of game development and the constant need for vigilance from both players and developers. It is incumbent upon the developers to address this swiftly to maintain the competitive integrity of CS2. As the community awaits a fix, the spotlight shines on the importance of bug reporting and community feedback in shaping the gaming experience.

Twitch Bans N3on’s Inactive Account, Leaving Fans Baffled

0

Popular streamer N3on has been banned from Twitch despite his last recorded activity being from 8 months ago which gets fans confused.

N3on stopped streaming on Twitch sometime ago and took his content to Kick and has been streaming there ever since. Streaming on Kick doesn’t mean he hasn’t been part of controversies while being there but that does not explain the suspension on Twitch where he did not stream for at least 8 months from the time of writing.

N3on’s channel on Twitch says that it has been banned for violating the Twitch terms of service but the interesting fact is the lack of activity for quite some time now and this has gotten the fans confused.

He hasn’t opened up about this issue on social media and Twitch often fails to explain their penalisation of streamer’s accounts. So as long as N3on reveals what happened, we will be in the dark but given the fact he hasn’t streamed on the Amazon-owned platform for 8 months, seems like he doesn’t care what becomes of his Twitch account.

Amouranth’s non-exclusive Kick deal “doubled” her earnings

0

Amouranth’s non-exclusive streaming deal with up-and-coming streaming platform Kick is said to have doubled her earnings compared to when she was streaming on Twitch alone.

Amouranth at one point was the most viewed female streamer on the Amazon-owned streaming platform but the suggestive nature of her content often put her on the receiving end of several bans. For those who remember the 2021-22 period of Twtich, Amouranth’s undeniable role in establishing “hot tub” streaming had the community divided. Even though that trend has washed away to some extent, Amouranth continued to be one of the most viewed streamers.

Amouranth signed a non-exclusive streaming deal with Kick around the same time as xQc and according to her, the economic gains have been massive.

“I can’t talk about the actual numbers, but we got signed around the same time through the same agent. It’s a very similar concept,” she said.

“It basically doubled my income across the board,” the streamer revealed. “It’s very lucrative for sure. It’s non-exclusive, so you can stream on Kick and Twitch, so it’s set up the same way.”

It was previously revealed that her monthly earnings from OnlyFans surpassed the million-dollar mark and it would be safe to assume that her earning from Kick is close to that figure if not the same. Suffice it to say, that Amouranth has multiple sources of income and investments along with Merchandise and Adult Toys that add to her earnings so to say that her income has been doubled goes to show the difference earnings for streamers when compared to Twitch.
