To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Counter-Strike franchise all Valve did was write a message of appreciation on X while the community hoped for a plethora of new content after leaks suggested that a new operation was in the works.
November 1st, 2000 is generally perceived as the CS’s birthday but the game goes way back. June 19th, 1999 being the release date for the first official beta, can be labeled as CS’s birthday. Counter-Strike was re-released in 2000 as CS: Condition Zero (2004), CS: Source (2004), CS: Global Offensive (2013), and CS2 (2023) were the subsequent official sequels.
A data miner has hinted at several new elements being in the work but nothing has surfaced as of today. The timing of the leak suggested that Valve would release the update in time for the 25th anniversary but all we got is a post on X.
CS2 players across Reddit have publicly expressed their dissatisfaction with Valve taking things lightly. The community has already voiced the issues that have been plaguing the game for a while and how Valve has yet to fix them.
CS2 has been missing plenty of things from CSGO and has a lot of optimization to undergo. What fans seem to be prominently missing are community servers which has taken a big part of the CS experience away from the game.
While there is a word for a new CS2 operation, nothing has been teased by Valve so far. Only time can tell if they plan to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game or if CS2 will get the same treatment as TF2.
