The introduction of new Chrono Shield Cards in the latest Marvel Rivals update has stirred controversy among the game’s competitive community, and players are not happy.
For the uninitiated, Chrono Shield Cards have been added to Marvel Rivals with the game’s May 15 update as part of the Galacta’s Gift event. The update also reintroduced the Season 0 Battle Pass for a limited time, giving players who missed it another chance to unlock its rewards.
Upon unlocking the Chrono Shield Cards by going through the tiers of the Galacta’s Gift event pass, players could use them to prevent rank rating lossupon losing competitivegames.
This move by NetEase caused many players to question the competitive integrity of Marvel Rivals, with concerns being raised about rank inflation and griefers ruining games without repercussions.
Marvel Rivals Chrono Shield Card Controversy
Shortly after NetEase announced the addition of Chrono Shield Cards to Marvel Rivals, players took to social media to highlight its potential negative impact on the game.
The majority of players reiterated the point that ranking up in Marvel Rivals is already too easy, and giving away these ‘get-out-of-jail-free’ cards could worsen the rank inflation the game has been struggling with for some time.
Some players also argued that the Chrono Shield Cards can introduce a pay-to-win aspect to the game if the devs decide to put them up for sale in the future, while others slammed NetEase for incentivising players to throw ranked games without the fear of consequences.
Following this, the devs put up a statement addressing player concerns, claiming that Chrono Shield Cards will never be put up for sale. Additionally, they also stated that these cards would only be usable in Gold and below.
However, players were still not satisfied, arguing that limiting the cards to lower ranks doesn’t solve the potential impact on the overall competitive experience.
At the time of writing, players can get eight Chrono Shield Cards from the Galacta’s Gift event, and can stack up to 20 cards in total. These cards expire at the end of a season.
Whether these Chrono Shield Cards remain a short-term experiment or signal a longer-term design shift, only time will tell.

Astralis is in the Grand Final of PGL Astana after coming back from a map loss to open the series. Freshly minted IGL HooXi has proven his worth once again, having led the team to their first Grand Final in years. This speaks to the brilliance of the team that went unnoticed under previous leadership.

Aurora removed Ancient
Astralis removed Anubis
Aurora picked Mirage
Astralis picked Nuke
Astralis removed Dust2
Aurora removed Inferno
Train was left over
🚀 @AstralisCS are the first Grand Finalists of 🇰🇿 PGL Astana 2025! 🏆
Going into an early lead, Aurora managed to keep the Danish defence on the back foot. With what has always been a strong map for Aurora, Mirage CT woes continued for dev1ce and co. in light of MAJ3R calling a fantastic offence for the Turks. Despite being on the back foot, Astralis managed to scavenge 5 rounds before switching sides. The second half saw the momentum switch back and forth between the two sides, with neither being able to find consistency, which led to the team winning at half time, winning the map by the skin of their teeth with a 13-11 scoreline.
Map 2: Nuke; Pick: Astralis; Winner: Astralis
Aurora, despite starting strong on defense in Nuke, allowed Astralis to take back control of the game. The Danes posted a solid T side despite managing 5 rounds by the end, giving them a fighting chance on the CT side. Swapping halves with a 7-5 scoreline, Astralis managed to post a perfect CT side, reading Aurora every step of the way, leading to the Turks failing to win a single round. Of the 9 rounds on offense, Aurora only managed to plant the bomb once, showcasing a dominant defense planned by HooXi. Stavn with 21 kills shone for Astralis by far as the best player on the server.
Map 3: Train; Pick: Decider; Winner: Astralis
A dominant CT side started from the Danes, saw Astralis go 4-0 up before Aurora could see a round on the board. Despite Astralis remaining largely dominant in the offence, Aurora managed to somehow win 3 rounds, giving them the slightest chance at a comeback. Switching sides, Astralis’ pistol win closed the door for the Aurora comeback as the scoreline kept looking more and more dominating with every passing kill. Playing a perfect T side, Astralis won the map with a 13-3 scoreline, brushing aside Aurora from PGL Astana.
A shocking result given the fact that Aurora was threatening the big names under the previous organization, while Astralis had little time to practice under HooXi’s leadership. Having a proper IGL has given dev1ce the freedom to be the star AWPer that he is, and his impact was undeniably too much for the Turks to handle today.
NetEase is celebrating Marvel Rivals‘ first anniversary by handing out various free rewards to the community, including the brand-new Chrono Shield Cards.
The Chrono Shield Cards are a new addition to Marvel Rivals that casual players won’t be able to make much use of, since they can only be used when playing the competitive mode of the hero shooter. When used, this item prevents players from losing points after a defeat in competitive matches.
While a portion of the Marvel Rivals community isn’t happy with this new item due to the apparent rank inflation in the game, it can still come in handy for players looking to get out of the lower ranks.
But how do you get Chrono Shield Cards in Marvel Rivals?
How To Get Chrono Shield Cards in Marvel Rivals
At the time of writing, the only way to obtain Chrono Shield Cards in Marvel Rivals is by participating in Galacta’s Gift event.
Hey Rivals, Both Chrono Shield Tokens from ranked matches and Chrono Shield Cards from events will not be for sale and are only usable for Gold rank and below. The purpose is to allow lower-ranked players to enter ranked mode with even less pressure through this mechanism. https://t.co/vfqQo1NMgn
The Chrono Shield Cards can be unlocked for free by reaching the required tiers in the Galacta’s Gift event pass.
You’ll be able to get your first cards upon reaching tier 2 by winning three games in a row, but you’ll have to grind to the fourth tier to get your next pack of cards.
While you can have a maximum limit of 20 Chrono Shield Cards at a time, only 8 can be earned through the event pass.
Whether players will be able to earn Chrono Shield Cards through other means still remains to be seen. NetEase has confirmed that both the Chrono Shield Tokens and Chrono Shield Cards will not be put up for sale, and will only be usable for Gold rank and below.

The following big Fortnite update, v35.10, has been officially postponed by just one day. While initially intended to release on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Epic Games has now announced that players should expect the update to land a day later, on Friday, May 16. Though the cause for the delay hasn’t been outlined, the remainder of the content pipeline and event schedule seem to be unaffected.
As with the majority of major Fortnite updates, gamers can expect a brief server downtime, projected to last about 12 hours. This will start at around 3:00 AM Central Time or 1:30 PM Indian Standard Time on May 16. Matchmaking will be turned off during this period, and gamers will not be able to play the game as the update is rolled out. Epic Games should give real-time information via Fortnite Status on X (formerly Twitter) if there are any additional adjustments to the maintenance schedule.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THURSDAY'S UPDATE 🔥
– New Cosmetics – General Grievous Skin – Possible Kaleesh Grievous Style – New Darth Jar Jar Skin – Custom Mandalorian (Encrypted) – Secret XP Shop will get new updates – Other Unknown Star Wars Skins – New Season 3 Datamining Leaks – New… pic.twitter.com/q4S5fZfxrB
The new patch is especially thrilling for Star Wars fans because it keeps Fortnite’s longtime crossover with the franchise going. The update adds numerous new items inspired by the galaxy far, far away. Among them is the Wookiee Bowcaster, which is famously held by Chewbacca. This crossbow-like energy-based weapon introduces a new combat mechanic to the game’s repertoire.
Another prominent addition is the Mandalorian Jetpack, which not only provides tactical mobility but also enhances players’ chances against close-combat weapons such as lightsabers. Its re-addition is particularly welcomed by those who enjoy air-based maneuvering in combat situations.
According to prominent Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR, the CA-87 Jawa Scatter Blaster is also expected to be added to the loot pool. This unique weapon, often associated with Jawas in the Star Wars universe, is rumored to bring a short-range burst fire mechanic that could shake up close-quarters engagements.
On top of this, there has been a rumor regarding the addition of the WESTAR-34 Blaster Pistol and the Amban Sniper Rifle, both of which are classic guns with unique features. Although these have not yet been confirmed, datamined information indicates they could be added to the game sooner rather than later.
As a reaction to recent rumors of a possible security violation, Valve Corporation has made it clear that Steam’s systems are still intact. The company has credited the rumors circulating with a leak of old SMS messages carrying one-time codes, which had a validity period of 15 minutes. The messages, sent by a third-party service provider, did not contain any explicit links to Steam accounts, passwords, payment information, or other sensitive user data.
Valve assures users that passwords and accompanying phone numbers do not need to be changed. Nevertheless, the company suggests caution against possible phishing attacks since the exposed phone numbers may be attacked by malicious people. Users are advised to be wary of unsolicited account security messages.
You may have seen reports of leaks of older text messages that had previously been sent to Steam customers. We have examined the leak sample and have determined this was NOT a breach of Steam systems.
We’re still digging into the source of the leak, which is compounded by the fact that any SMS messages are unencrypted in transit, and routed through multiple providers on the way to your phone.
The leak consisted of older text messages that included one-time codes that were only valid for 15-minute time frames and the phone numbers they were sent to. The leaked data did not associate the phone numbers with a Steam account, password information, payment information or other personal data. Old text messages cannot be used to breach the security of your Steam account, and whenever a code is used to change your Steam email or password using SMS, you will receive a confirmation via email and/or Steam secure messages.
You do not need to change your passwords or phone numbers as a result of this event. It is a good reminder to treat any account security messages that you have not explicitly requested as suspicious. We recommend regularly checking your Steam account security at any time at https://store.steampowered.com/account/authorizeddevices
We also recommend setting up the Steam Mobile Authenticator if you haven’t already, as it gives us the best way to send secure messages about your account and your account’s safety.
Steam’s Statement
In support of account security, Valve has implemented major upgrades to the Steam Mobile App. The new app now includes QR code login features, enabling users to log into their accounts without the need for usernames and passwords. This feature utilizes two-factor authentication (2FA) credentials saved on the user’s phone, offering an easy and secure login process.
In addition, the app has an “Authorized Devices” page, which allows users to track and control devices that are connected to their accounts. The feature supports checking recent activity and revoking access from unknown devices, in turn improving account security.
Valve recommends the use of Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator, which is a 2FA feature that creates time-based codes directly within the Steam Mobile App. This adds a layer of protection, so even if a password is stolen, unauthorized access is not possible. The authenticator is especially important for players actively trading virtual objects, as it protects valuable in-game content from potential theft.
Rudra “Spower” Banswani has officially rejoined GodLike Esports just days after clinching the BGIS 2025 title with Team Versatile. The announcement, made on May 14, 2025, positions GodLike as one of the most formidable contenders heading into the highly anticipated Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series (BMPS) 2025, which kicks off on May 22.
Spower’s Surprising Switch to GodLike Esports
Spower’s decision to part ways with Team Versatile comes as a major surprise to fans. After an impressive six-month stint with Versatile, culminating in a BGIS 2025 championship and standout individual performances, many expected the young prodigy to continue his journey with the reigning champions. The addition of Spower, renowned for his clutch plays and aggressive fragging, could be the missing piece in GodLike’s quest for their elusive championship.
Spower’s Remarkable Journey
Spower’s career trajectory has been nothing short of remarkable. Having played for reputed organizations such as Soul, Blind, MOGO, Carnival, and Versatile, he has built a reputation as one of the most skilled and adaptable players in the scene. Notably, Spower was associated with GodLike as a content creator in 2021 and had a brief stint as a player in late 2023. His return marks a full-circle moment, but this time, he joins as a proven champion and MVP.
