DewArena: The ultimate combat begins

Initiated roughly two months ago, DewArena, India’s largest eSports gaming festival is all set to conclude their first edition of the event this week in Delhi. The play-offs of the event will run from 23rd of September until 25th.

Mountain Dew announced DewArena Gaming Championship announced the launch of their new variant GameFuel in New Delhi on 9th June. In their partnership with ESL India, DewArena was announced with a massive prize-pool of over โ‚น 8,00,000 will beย split between different games. The online qualifiers drove four teams to the top of CS: GO tables which are invited to the DewArena LAN finals.

DewArena – Become the face of GameFuel

DewArena

We take you through the 9-week long journey of these qualified teams:

MxB Gaming

DewArena
Sabyasachi ‘antidote’ Bose

Making their way to the top among the 255 registered teams, MxB Gaming qualified from the second online qualifiers. In their journey to the top, they beat MakeWay, Team Brutality and finally Mision in Stealth (2-0). This squad mostly of teenagers is lead by Bhavin ‘HellRangeR’ Kotwani, he interests into picking players and polishing them into professionals.

MxB Gaming, apart from being participants consistently in the most events, has been existing in the community from a very long time. This team arguably has some of the top aimersย on their side. MxB Gaming has:

  • Bhavin ‘HellRanger’ Kotwani
  • Mohit ‘SpawN’ Wakle
  • Sharan ‘Busterr’ Dave
  • Varun ‘Spy’ Mehta
  • Sabyasachi ‘antidote’ Bose
  • Shailesh ‘Blackhawk’ Dalvi

The names might look unheard of, but these players have proved it time and again that they are among the best CS: GO teams in India.

Team Brutality

DewArena
Team Brutality with Akshat Rathee, CEO, Nodwin Gaming

Is the name just enough? Of course, you can head over to their achievementsย toย affirm. Team Brutality has been the benchmark squad for most of the teams in India. Their consistency is what draws them outย from the masses. Lead by Ankit ‘V3nom’ Panth, one of the Counter-Strike veterans in the country, Brutality is habituated to dominate the leaderboards of most of the events in India.

Arguably, going head-to-head against their rivals Invisible Wings (also qualified for the LANs) and Team Invictus, Brutality have not failed to impress their fans on different occasions. Their lineup for DewArena will have:

  • Ankit ‘v3nom’ Panth
  • Aakash ‘RiX’ More
  • Jay ‘fox’ Shah
  • Ayush ‘astarrr’ Deora
  • Arun ‘Kundya’ Kandpal

Team Brutality qualified from the third online qualifiers, where they beat TmG, Overcome and Invisible Wings (2-0) in the finals.

Invisible Wings

DewArena
Invisible Wings at an event in Bangalore

If you look around for the most ups-and-downs any organization has ever had in Indian eSports community, you ought to take Invisible Wings’s record at the top. With a stubby start to an excellent professional squad, Invisible Wings has set examples for most of the emerging CS:GO teams.

The way they have adjusted themselves according to the bizarre situations which came upfront, Invisible Wings is also the most diversified squad regarding skills and experiences. They will attend DewArena LAN finals with:

  • Mithil ‘MithilF’ Sawant
  • Manan ‘Manan’ Bhatt
  • Simar ‘psy’ Sethi
  • Akshay ‘Kappa’ Sinkar
  • Ritesh ‘RitZ’ Shah

Invisible Wings qualified for the DewArena LAN finals into the last available slot, they beat Elements and Team Overcome on their way.

Team Overcome (replaced for Team Invictus)

Although they couldn’t qualify for the LAN finals through the predetermined slots, their fortune was fortunate enough to offer them another chance to be eligible for the majors, and they didn’t miss it. Team Overcome, is the fourth and final team to be the participant to fight for โ‚น 3,50,000 INR.

This group of youngsters is seen aligned beside MxB Gaming, much in common in their playstyle and the experiences. Team Overcome is also a squad which appearsย in the list of top four CS:GO teams in India. They geared up for DewArena with:

  • Anuj ‘Amaterasu’ Sharma
  • Vivek ‘Shabby’ Patel
  • Shoeb ‘Akatsuki’ Shaul
  • Aaqib โ€˜Bababicepsโ€˜ Dingankar
  • Divesh ‘Monster.’
  • Sachin ‘pwN’ Gaikwad

Team Overcome got qualified through the decider qualifier which was brought into action after Team Invictus travelled to China for ZOWIE Extremesland international finals, leaving a slot behind. The action begins on 23rd of September where the semi-finals will be played on the teams. The grand finals will be played on 25th.

National team of USA disqualified from TWC 2016

0

After failing to have submitted their prospected lineup for The World Championship 2016, the National team of USA got disqualified by the E-Frag officials. Canada has been replacing the team at the International LAN finals as they stood second in the North American qualifiers.

USA squad had some of the top international players in the Counter-Strike history, with Hiko and n0thing on their side.

The late submission of the regular active team has sadly forced E-Frag to disqualify them and replace themย with the second place finisher of the North American qualifiers, Canada.

The lineup of Team Canada is yet unknown, but determining the same from the previous year’s TWC, Semphis, daps,ย fns and NAF could potentially be leading the Canadian side.ย The TWC2016 LAN finals will be in Belgrade between the 6th and 9th of October at the Kombank Belgrade Arena. You can get tickets here or view the action online at EFRAGTV.

Invisible Wings conquers Taiwan Excellence Gaming

Invisible Wings are yourย Taiwan Excellenceย gaming Cup champions as they claim a 2-1 victory over Beyond Infinity inย pretty exciting fashion. Both the teams interestingly will be moving ahead to play under the same organization in a couple of weeks.

It was Taiwan Excellence gaming cup 2015 when the Invisible Wings squad, who were known as NeckBreak earlier claimed their last title against Teamย Elunes which are now known as Beyond Infinity. After a year, the Invisible Wings lineup have avenged the TE Gaming Cup 2016 title.

Now that both the organisation have now been merged for a better goal achievement. Dota 2 squad includes players from iWings and BI – Blizzard, Crowley, A35, Swifty and No_chance and Evil-Ash as coach. But they still had to play the Taiwan Excellence gaming cup and in the next few events with their current roster due to the rules and regulations of the events, Dew Arena Lan finals and ESL India Premiership Mastersย to follow.

The LAN finals of Taiwan Excellence gaming cup took place on 16th-17th September at Mumbai’s Infinity Mall. The tournament was organised by Nodwin Gaming and the total prize pool was Rs. 5,00,000.

Prize pool split for first two place

The top two teams from Indian Gaming scene grabs Rs 2,80,000 from the total prize pool and rest of the prize was split between the 10 participating teams. Invisible wings will be playing Dew Arena together as their next tournament. Following the Dew Arena tournament, both the squads will enter into their new venture wherein the players will be playing under a fresh gaming organization, Entity Esports.ย We wish them all the very best for their future endeavours.

Overwatch, one of the best sellers in FPS title, has a small but emerging community in India. The eight pre-determined NVIDIA Certified cafes will be hosting the participants for the first season. Dell’s Alienware has also been associated with the eventย to help and accelerate the latest growing game into a widely grown eSports community as compared to CS: GO and DotA 2 in India.

At NVIDIA, we see immense market potential in India and through GeForce Cup, we want Indian gamers to experience the latest eSport games on the best platform. Valve releases update, affirms to fix the major bugs

0

Valve have introduced a new patch 1.35.4.8 to the game earlier this morning. The patch will carry fixes and updates to the major hitbox registry issues, alongside audio enhancements for zoom-in rifles. Additionally, it will cover the smoke-clip bug reported by theย Reddit user NefariousMD.

After months of taking criticism straight to the face, Valve has responded firmly to the major hit registry bugs which were affecting the game with a huge proportion. The number of clips titled “CSGO’ed” were the result of this hit reg bug, where the animations on the game would disassociate the shots fired on the enemy model and ending up giving limited damage than practically it should. Valve reportedly have been informed about this, and they have patched the major bug causing the issue.

Other than hit registry bug, Valve has also made the invited changes to the sound files of the zoom-in set of weaponry in the game, AWP, G3SG1, SCAR-20 and SSG 08. The complete change log released by Valve is below:

CS:GO Update 1.35.4.8

[GAMEPLAY]

  • The first-person camera of players, spectators, and demo-viewers is no longer allowed to rise higher than their third-person head. This should prevent first-person players from being able to see from perspectives where their third-person head is not also exposed.
  • When a playerโ€™s first-person camera is adjusted, bullets fired from both their client and server-side locations are also adjusted to emit from the corrected position.
  • If for any reason the third-person player animation lowers a playerโ€™s head beneath the clientโ€™s first-person camera, the clientโ€™s first-person camera is lowered to stay at or under the height of their third-person head. This means that the third-person motion of the player is now represented more accurately from the first-person perspective.
  • Third-person landing recovery animations are now weighted based on altitude traversed and duration in-air. Players landing from small jumps or falling from lesser heights will play more subtle landing animations.
  • The anti-crouch-spam system has been changed to use degrading speed, instead of logging keypress-count. As before, the more often players crouch, the slower they will rise or lower. But this should now prevent bugs where players would instantly stand, or lose their crouch-spam penalty by moving a tiny amount. If players crouch even more, eventually they will just stay standing up.
  • First-person and third-person crouch speed is now more closely related. The third-person player lowers more quickly to match the first-person representation.
  • Players landing in crouch positions play a more subtle landing animation that raises their third-person head less noticeably.
  • Molotovs are no longer extinguished by smokes that are significantly below them, so now it is possible to smoke inside hut on Nuke and throw a Molotov on top of the hut, or smoke under palace balcony on Mirage and throw a Molotov on the balcony floor.
  • Molotovs are no longer extinguished by smokes that are above the fire height.
  • Molotovs no longer spread under closed doors.
  • Smoke grenades no longer get stuck in player clips when they extinguish flames upon bouncing off a wall.

[SOUND]

  • Increased fidelity and reduced distortion for fire sound for AWP, SSG 08, G3SG1 and SCAR-20.
  • Added unique reload, distant and draw sounds for SSG 08, G3SG1 and SCAR-20.
  • Gunshot tails for AWP, SSG 08, G3SG1 and SCAR-20 no longer remain at the position they were fired, and instead more accurately spread over the environment.

[MAPS]

  • The latest version of de_cache, minor bug fixes.

[MISC]

  • Lag compensation system will now reliably restore pose parameters responsible for animation layering which makes server-side hitboxes for lag compensated players better match client-side rendered models. (Thanks, /u/Spurks)
  • Fixed a bug where player body pitch could improperly rotate the entire player entity inside lag compensation processing.

Fresh CSGO VAC Ban wave storms a year record

0

Counter Strike: Global Offensive is currently the most hyped FPS multiplayer competitive video game undoubtedly. The hackers are not reluctant in their own fashion and continue to disrupt the game’s integrity, with having thousands of hours on the game and grands of dollars as the inventory value, the in-game abusers are least bothered to get banned from using ‘premium cheats’. CSGO VAC Ban arrives.

This has been a problem in CS:GO community for aย very long time andย it is the community who has suffered the most in these prolonged unfair games. Valve, on the other hand, has not been seen working on this particular issue with their strongest efforts. The cheaters are getting doubled and tripledย with every passing day and no strict action or announcements have been made by Valve, until today.

The cheaters are getting doubled and tripledย with every passing day and no strict action or announcements have been made by Valve, until today.

As it seems to be one of the biggest VAC bans in over a year period, the cheating communities, and forums have confirmed that their cheats were indeed detected by Valve a couple of hours ago. The technical side of this is not easily understandable, but it seems that Valve made some changes in their server-side encryption where the cheating software was exploiting.

Numerous cheating discussing forums also read a bunch of new threads by the users about the new ban wave.

According to the data gathered by VAC-BAN.com, close to 4000 accounts were handed ban by the VAC system, which triggered the 52-week high. Go check how many of the suspects according to you got banned!

Interview with Selfless Gaming Owner and coach Ryu

Today I had the pleasure of talking to Selfless Gaming owner and coach Steve “Ryu” Rattacasa. We talked today about the state of the NA CS scene, how CS is evolving itself and we also spoke a bit about Selfless and himself.

Selfless Gaming is based out of North America and has Overwatch, Rocket League, Killer Instinct and Super Smash Bros alongside, CS:GOย teams for both Males and Females.

Reece: First of all, let’s talk a bit about the American CS scene. The American CS scene has always been a big scene, but now more teams are growing who were formerly unknown to the casual fan with the help of big competitions like ELeague and ESL Pro League: NA. Do you think the NA scene could grow bigger than the EU scene in the future?

Ryu: Yes because thatโ€™s what the math is going to showโ€”and Americans love competition, love competitive sports/activities, and having things like ELEAGUE showcasing our games on TV will continue to push it into the mainstream (which itโ€™s still not a part of).

People say there are issues with the American CS scene, for example, they say players have no passion and are just there for the big salaries. From both a business view and a player’s view, do you think there are any major issues with the American CS scene right now, and what do you think could be done to solve these issues?

Ryu
Selfless at Cologne 2016 Qualifiers

It’s definitely disappointing to see the average work ethic of some of the teams/players that โ€œmake itโ€ to the pro levelโ€”but Iโ€™ve always said the entire โ€œsystemโ€ for a player to go through to get recognized was flawed. It rewarded individual stats and overly aggressive styles of play which never emphasized the most important things, like teamwork, communication, etc. Thatโ€™s slowly begun to change, but itโ€™s still a few seasons out before we see what kind of impact some of those changes will have.

There have been a lot of organizations who have come and gone and have only survived a short period of time. In your opinion, what makes a successful and sustainable esports organization?

Generating revenue, super passionate fans, and great, long-term partnershipsโ€”and itโ€™s real, really hard to do. Right now the scene is flooded with big name investor money, and none of those orgs have the real incentive to be profitable or sustainable, and thatโ€™s extremely risky. Thatโ€™s how bubbles growโ€ฆ

What do you think is different with the EU scene and the NA scene? Do you think the NA scene could become bigger than the EU scene? Why?

Thereโ€™s almost too much to list, but Iโ€™d say overall the NA scene focuses on individual aim, and EU plays good, consistent team-based CS:GO. We certainly have the talent for it, but itโ€™ll take time. C9 (Cloud 9) is an example of what a team would need to look like to beat EU teams regularly.

Onto a bit about Selfless now. Recently we saw some roster changes with Michael “Mainline” Jaber being dropped and Vincent “Brehze” Cayonte being added. Was there any big reason behind this change or was it just the right player popping up at the right time?

Mainline lost his love of the gameโ€”the fire, the drive, the passion. He was lethargic in practices, he was late frequently, and we just werenโ€™t โ€œfeeling itโ€ with him anymore. It was obvious we had to move on, and once we started to shift the in-game leadership role away from him, he either had to step it up with his work ethic and grind himself into being a top player, or move on. He decided to move on. I loved playing with him and wish that wasnโ€™t the case, but I think a bit of a break for him from the top competitive scene will be really good for him in the long run. Heโ€™s not hanging up the mouse just yet.

You are the owner of Selfless Gaming, you write the articles for the site, but you also coach the team and do analyst elements for the ESL Pro League North American scrims. Do you prefer the business side of things or the pundit side of things, or even the player side of things as you used to be a player? Why?

I love all of it. Being an owner allows me the opportunity to move my focus around to different elements any given day of the week. So in addition to the coaching stuff, the analyst work, and the โ€œgeneral CS:GOโ€ activities, I also get to work on marketing, social media, recruiting talent (for CS:GO and other games), finding and securing partnerships, and so on. My previous career in technology was very successful but got very, very boring for me quickly. This variety is really the spice of my life right now, and I love it all.

Valve have made a few big changes to CS:GO recently. For example, the coaching ban. As a coach yourself, what do you think about the coaching ban?

Classic Valveโ€”not listening to what the players want, and operating as an obstacle to the growth and progression of the game instead of a catalyst for it. Itโ€™s ridiculous and will result in lower quality CS:GO.

Ryu

They’ve made some other pretty big changes recently like the gambling ban and of course, new gun sounds. People are even saying CS:GO is dying. What do you think about the gambling ban? Do you think CS:GO is heading up or down? Is it “dying” like people say?

I donโ€™t care about the gambling banโ€”and I think itโ€™s only a short-term thing anyways. Esports betting will be MASSIVEโ€”way bigger than people think or realize right nowโ€”but itโ€™ll take the time to follow the appropriate legal avenues. I donโ€™t think the game is dying anytime soon, despite the 12-year-olds who lost skins and issued death threats via anonymous social media accounts not being able to wager skins anymore.

Dota 2 has “The Invitational,” an annual tournament with a massive prize pool which determines the best team in the world. With Counter Strike, we usually have 3 major tournaments per year. Which format do you think is better, the one big tournament style or the 3 tournament style?

I love what Valve has done with the International, but I prefer at least 2 MAJOR events per year, so Iโ€™m not a huge fan of the single gigantic event per year.

Now a bit about yourself. You transitioned from being an IGL to a coach due to a busy work schedule. How hard was it to stop playing and start coaching? Do you think you might follow the steps of Immortal’s Zews and return to being a player at some point in the future?

It wasnโ€™t too hardโ€”I was able to do the things I was truly good at, I was able to bring in young talent and help players develop and play the right way. The only hard part about it was WATCHING instead of playing, and knowing that my impact on the game was less โ€œdirectโ€. As much as I think my value could be at an all-time high as a player right now (due to the ridiculous coaching rule change), I have no plans to return to playing. I truly believe that if I did, with my work ethic, I could be back in form quickly, though.

Finally, what can you say to help people who are trying to break through to the professional scene?

Recognize what you are naturally good at (because yes, TALENT EXISTS), and go all in on that. Hard work should be a part of your equation for success regardless of what you do in life, so figure out the strengths you have, work really hard, and always be a great teammate. And as a relevant side note, Iโ€™d encourage all younger players that want to go pro in one way or another to focus on building their individual following/brand. Thatโ€™ll be more and more important as Esports grows.

Thank you very much for your time, Steve. Any last things to say? Any shoutouts?

Thank you to every single fan of any/all of our teams, all of our supporters, all the haters who keep fanning the flames, and a huge shutout to ClutchChairz for making the best gaming chairs weโ€™ve ever been fortunate to game in. As I write this, Kaboose is lounging hardcore in his chair and loving it.
