Pickโ€™Em Predictions! TalkEsport picks

The stage is set. The seedings are set. The teams are set to battle in the Challengers Stage at IEM Katowice 2019. But, the player-driven seedings will bring about a change in the format. While you may have put your favourite teams as 3-0 or gone for some generic 0-3 picks, we provide you with a little insight into how the seeding might affect your decision.

Favourites for 3-0 Pick: Fnatic, Cloud 9

  • TalkEsport Picks NRG

The first matchups are already known. We assume the favourites all manage to win, except in the AVANGAR vs Renegades match, which is likely too close to call and a potential upset from Vega Squadron in the G2 game.

The seedings will then play a massive role. Among the 1-0 teams, Fnatic should get Vega Squadron. NRG will get the winner between Avangar and Renegades, Cloud 9 will get Vitality and Nip will square off against ENCE.

Let us now assume Fnatic and NRG win their respective matches. Then, we are left with Cloud9/Vitality and NiP/ENCE. If Cloud 9 wins, Fnatic will get either NiP or ENCE. But, if Vitality win, Fnatic will face the French heavyweights.

We assume Vitality have what it takes to beat Cloud9 and ENCE somehow overcome NiP. We are left with Fnatic vs Vitality and NRG vs ENCE as the two 2-0 matchups. While Fnatic is not a sure bet against Vitality, NRG is a heavier favourite in comparison, if matched against ENCE.

We are going with the above simulated result, which puts NRG in a great position. Now, suppose, if G2 were to beat Vega Squadron in the first matchup, we could see Fnatic face the winner of Avangar and Renegades while NRG gets G2.

Either way, we feel NRG are good to go at least 2-0. And you can check various simulated results to see that, should NRG and Fnatic both go 2-0, NRG will have a more favourable matchup than the Swedes.

Favourites for 0-3 Pick: Vici, Spirit

  • TalkEsport Picks Vici Gaming

No fooling anyone, Vici Gaming is the easiest option for 0-3 and we can back that up with an explanation in line with what we said above.

In the first set of simulation, we are going for G2 to lose to Vega. Should that happen, Vici will get matched with G2, which, like their opening fixture against Fnatic, will be another match where they are expected to lose.

If we assume Vega loses, Vici will still go up against the loser of the Avangar and Renegades matchup. We feel Vici will reach 0-2 either way. In the elimination matchup, if we go by the first simulation, Vici should come up against either Avangar or Renegades.

If the second one comes true, Vici should face Spirit while Grayhound goes up against Winstrike in the other 0-2 one. While Vici Gaming has done well to qualify for the event, we feel they will be a bit underprepared or overwhelmed by the situation. Can go for Grayhound as well.

TalkEsport Picks Fnatic, Cloud9, NiP, ENCE, Vitality, Vega Squadron and FURIA to qualify.

  • Odd One In: FURIA

  • Odd One Out: G2

FURIA are largely an unknown quantity and a team we believe to have immense potential to surprise the CSGO fans at the major. They have quirky and early round boosts with an aim to gain advantage from the get-go.

But, what surprised me was their ability to be calm in clutches and close encounters, which suggests there is more substance to the FURIA lineup than just pure ability. While FURIA might find it difficult to match up to the big teams, we expect them to dominate the teams in and around their seeding.

We expect them to come very close, if not qualify. G2 on the other hand, just look underprepared and a lineup that seem like they are biding their time till the post-Major shuffle.

All the other teams mentioned might already be common with others as they are largely the favourites. Another outsider is TYLOO, especially with so many โ€˜underdogโ€™ lineups making it to the New Challengers Stage.

What are your picks? Tell us in the comments below.

Infinite and Singularity part ways

The North American Organisation have announced that Gage “Infinite” Green will be stepping down from the active roster citing difference in personalities which held the team back from advancing forwards.

In his short stint with Singularity, the team reached a 4-3 record in MDL and failed to make the closed qualifiers for IEM Sydney.

With this roster update, the current roster stand as:ย

Tito announces 2ez exit

6

Rahul โ€˜TitoSavageโ€™ Sridhar is the freshest departure from 2ez gaming. The player, who has been representing 2ez since itโ€™s inception, has been a key component in all of their successes and their rise towards the top echelons of the Indian CSGO scene.

Titoโ€™s announcement comes moments after Antidote announced his departure from 2ez gaming, which seems to either be heading towards a fresh lineup or a disband, something that has been hinted at recently by the players.

The player confessed his love for the time he spent as part of the 2ez family while also stating that he had found lifelong friends in his teammates.

We reached out to Tito for a comment and this is what he had to say.

Iโ€™m waiting to see what offers I receive and I will eventually choose one after careful consideration. Thanks Ameya Mankar & co. for the love

The Indian shuffle is well and truly under way, with the ESL INDIA 2018 edition coming to an end. There is an impasse or void of around a month or more and we are already starting to see teams chop and change lineups in order to prepare for the new season.

Antidote officially departs 2ez gaming roster

5

Sabyasachi โ€˜Antidoteโ€™ Bose has announced through his social media account that he is officially no longer a part of 2ez gaming. The player joined 2ez straight after the Optic India disbandment and featured for 2ez in the Asia Closed Qualifiers of ESL Pro League Season 8.

Atidote thanked 2ez owner Ameya Mankar for the opportunity and his teammates for the short but beautiful stint. The update comes a day after Entity announced the signing of Poki, who was announced as a departure from the 2ez roster on the same day of the ESL INDIA Winter Season Grand Final.

The AWPer has impressed over the last year or so and will now be looking forward to the next chapter of his journey. If you take a look at his announcement carefully, you might find a hint as to what his next team might be.

For now, though, it is better not to speculate and wait for Antidoteโ€™s announcement. He is reportedly courting several offers right now and it will be interesting to see what his next step will be.

Apex Legends Bug lets you win without playing

1

A reddit user has found a bug in the popular Battle Royale Apex Legends that lets you win without playing.

Irish_R3bel said on the apex legends subreddit that his brother encountered a bug whereby he was not able to leave the ship at the beginning of the match, which led him to take no damage and ultimately win the game because all the opponents died off the zone.

A user by the name of Alkkine seems to have found how it happens.

โ€œIf you rez someone while the ship is moving and are on the bottom floor of it you will pass through the walls and if you stop you get stuck in the ship permanently, found out the hard way,โ€ he commented.

While the Apex legends team is working on fixing the bug, many users have faced similar problems. The thread was voted to the top of the subreddit with many players complaining of the problem that left them disappointed with 2nd place.

The makers have promised to fix the bug soon, and asked the creator to send them more details, but did not provide a timeline. Although bugs are very common during the first few weeks of the release of a game, this one seems to be too big to ignore.

Apex Legends is a free to play Battle Royale game released on 4th of February on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The Titanfall based game is tipped to be the โ€œFortnite Killerโ€, after it crossed 10 million users in just 72 hours.

China finally recognises Esports as a profession

1

In a welcome move, the Chinese Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security (CMHRSS) recognised esports as a profession, days after it extended its support to the industry last year.

On January 25, the ministry announced 15 new professions, including โ€œesports professionalโ€ and โ€œesports operator. The term โ€œesports professionalโ€ is defined as players who compete in esports tournaments or perform at esports events, while an operator is one who organises a tournament.

However, a peculiar point to note in the announcement was that the Ministry accepted Account boosting as a legitimate profession. This has caused some confusion within the community as it amounts to cheating and is punishable in games like League of Legends and Overwatch.

Account boosting is the method by which a professional player uses another users account with the intention of ranking him up, or what is known as boosting in the gaming community. While the definition of boosting could have been misinterpreted by the Ministry, it is one area which needs to be cleared upon. Nevertheless, the announcement is a welcome move for one of the biggest gaming countries in the world.

The General Manager of eUnited, Daniel Clerke wished the players luck on their future endeavors on his statement on the official website of eUnited. He said, โ€œThis has been a very difficult year for eUnited Counter-Strike. We are very proud of what we have accomplished and plan to improve upon our successes from 2018. With that being said our organization has identified that the best option for our team is a culture shift. I am deeply saddened to have to move on from Will and Mike. This past year with them has been incredible and I wish them both the best in their futures not only as players but as people who I have become friends with. However, I am very optimistic and excited for the potential with the new team and am excited for a complete reset for 2019.โ€

Victor โ€œfoodโ€ Wong and Edgar โ€œMarkEโ€ Jimenez will join the ranks as riflers and Anthony โ€œvanityโ€ Malaspina will take over the reigns of the team and be their IGL. The roster will be completed by Kaleb โ€œmooseโ€ Jayne and Austin โ€œCooperโ€ Abadir

Regarding these changes, Cooper; who is currently the captain of the team said that โ€œSince joining eUnited the culture has been pretty unsteady. With this group of players joining I can be fully confident in the roster. Vanity will bring a new perspective to calling for the team and I am very excited about the potential and the future.โ€

The final team of eUnited will be:

  • Edgar โ€œMarkEโ€ Jimenez

The highest earning eSports players in the world

0

The eSports world has been getting huge for a while now, so it is no wonder that the top players in the world are getting paid a whole lot of cash. Some of the players and spectators donโ€™t even realize how much money is involved in the industry and never get to realize how much money is made by the players.

Let me tell you something, the top ten players in the world get paid pretty crazy amounts, every year. So who are these top ten players, where do they come from, what games do they play and how much money do they make?

Well, the answer to those questions is right below. Just consider how much amount of work these people have put into getting where they are at. If you are an aspiring professional player, you might want to get inspired by these people, so that eventually you too can be at the same level.

Highest paid eSports players

KuroKy

$4.1 Million

Everybody has heard of this guy. Well, at least everybody who has ever wanted to learn more about the Dota 2 gaming world. KurokY is a professional gamer who has been in the game for a long while. Just like all of us, he started out with Dota. He has been participating in competitions for many years.

The German player has been able to gather up four million US dollars in his years of playing, all in prize money. That is a staggering amount of money and is the most money anybody has made by playing eSports to date. Currently, he is part of Team Liquid and is enjoying his amazingly successful run.

N0tail

$3.7 Million

The names on this list are of course no surprise to anyone. N0tail is an amazing player who has been part of the eSports scene for a very long time. Since his promising upstart days, this start player has moved onto becoming the second highest paid player in all of the industry, and all of this with prize money.

Though on his road to success there were a lot of bumps and obstacles. At some point, he was part of the team that was coming in as one of the last in the Dota 2 championships. But, after so many years of trying, it looks like N0tail has found a worthy team that he was able to win the 2018 Dota Championship with.

Miracle

$3.7 Million

Once upon a time Miracle- was a pubstar, nothing but a player who achieved incredible feats without ever competing professionally. Dota was his game of choice, just like everyone on this list and he stuck with it so long and so well that he has achieved amazing success. He has been able to become the third highest paid player, in terms of prize money, over the years of his play.

While today he might be taking a break from Dota 2, this player has become a legend over the years of the gaming. Letโ€™s wish him luck as his journey continues.

MinD_ContRoL

$3.5 Million

MinD_ContRol has had a very interesting career over the years, with a significant number of bumps on his road as well. He has been part of winning teams and captain of some amazing rosters for a long time. Over the years he has managed to win a huge number of championships and, conversely, has managed to gather up enough money to be considered one of the top paid players in the world.

This Bulgarian player has faced many issues with his career over the years, with one or two controversies always being not too far off from his games. Yet, he continues to be one of the top players and one of the top earners.

Matumbaman

$3.4 Million

Matumbaman has been in the eSports gaming spotlight ever since 2014 when he won the Assembly Summer 2014. Ever since then the player has been steadily making a name for himself in the international eSports community. While his career has not been as long as some of the other eSports playerโ€™s, he has already managed to gather up enough winnings to become the fifth highest paid player in the world. Now, as part of team liquid, he is on his way to becoming even better in the future.

You may have noticed that all of these players are Dota 2 pros. This could either be because Dota 2 is the most popular MOBA game in the world or because of the 2017 tournament, which had the highest winning pool of all time. Whatever it is, you might want to start learning from these guys to see how you could become a better player, and one of the highest earning competitors, in the future.

Good Luck!

Three Dark Horses in the IEM Katowice 2019 New Challengers Stage

The IEM Katowice Main Qualifiers are on the horizon. The phase, now called the New Challengers Stage, has eight spots up for grabs at the New Legends Stage or as we can say, the actual beginning of the legacy Major.

ESL has gotten Valve to agree to a seeding for the Main Qualifiers in what is a new idea – a player-driven seeding system. But, regardless of the seedings, there are always surprises in store at this stage.

Some, we already received at the Minors, with teams like North, mousesports, INTZ and eUnited not making it to Poland. The ones that have though, are all contenders for the eight spots, although some come into the event as favourites to advance.

Here we list three underrated teams that can shock other teams and land one of the eight spots.

1. Vega Squadron (IEM Seeding: 10) (HLTV Ranking #50)

Photo Via HLTV

The lineup has already tread down a similar path at the FACEIT Major 2018, surprising everyone. And while their overall record has been far from perfect, they are always a threat at big events, mostly due to their unbridled form of aggression.

They have a Shark on their logo, which justifies their playing style to an extent. Like Sharks, Vega Squadronโ€™s lineup are always aggressive towards anyone who dare step foot on the same server, sometimes to their own detriment as well.

What they have going for them in Poland is the presence of teams who are not really accustomed to facing such an aggressive style of play. The likes of Vici Gaming, FURIA, Renegades, and Grayhound are all, to an extent, alien to the way Vega Squadron go about their game.

They kick their campaign off against G2, who have not exactly been setting the stage on fire since the changes to their lineup. G2 have been prone to being easily underpowered and Vega Squadron, who rely mostly on aggression and momentum, could be a real test.

With so many new teams getting to this stage, Vega Squadron are one of the favourites from the underdog bracket, if you can understand what we mean to say.

Despite the aggression, Vega play a team game, with no real standout star(s). Everyone chips in, with someone always stepping up when needed.

Their runners-up finish at StarSeries i-League Season 6 will give them the confidence to match up to the โ€˜BIGโ€™ teams on the server and we fully expect other teams to tread the Polish waters carefully, especially with the Sharks present.

2. Winstrike (IEM Seeding: 15) (HLTV Ranking #27)

One of the resident underdogs at IEM Katowice 2019, Winstrike have no real achievements apart from their Group Stage appearance at FACEIT Major 2018. The team formerly known as Quantum Bellator Fire though, surprised everyone with a run straight from the CIS Minor straight to the Quarter Finals, where they fell to regional powerhouse Natus Vincere.

Kvik and Boombl4 are the only survivors from the lineup. But, Winstrike have been shrewd in going about adding the rest of the missing pieces. One of the great finds of the CIS region in recent time, norber7 has been proving himself individually on the server as part of Winstrike.

The addition of waylander and WorldEdit though, is why we are going for Winstrike to cause a surprise or more in Poland. The former Flipside Tactics duo have experience under their belt and can steer the ship during difficult times.

Also, Boombl4 can really be left to do the crazy on the server, with the experienced head of WorldEdit there to cover him and lend a helping hand. This lineup has had a good amount of success, with two top 3 Lan placings, although one of them was at the CIS Minor.

Winstrike are up against NRG in their opening fixture and while it will be too much for us to expect a win for the CIS lineup, we are sure they will come close to qualifying if not qualify for the New Legends Stage.

3. FURIA (IEM Seeding: 13) (HLTV Ranking #21)

The last name on our list, FURIA are by no means the last on everyoneโ€™s thoughts for the IEM Katowice 2019 New Challengers Stage. While they did falter to NRG and ended up qualifying as the second team from the Americas Minor, FURIA are easily recognised as the best Brazilian team among ones that are still based in the country.

FURIA decided to change things up, bringing in the raw firepower of ableJ to replace the experienced spacca. But, the undoubted star of the lineup is kscerato, who was rumoured to be on the radar of mibr. The premier organization attempted to bring the youngster in but were thwarted by the said buyout fee, with mibr choosing to go for Felps instead.

kscerato is regarded as the star with stats genuinely backing the sentiment. The fact that the player recorded only two sub-1.00 rating events over a series of 37 events as part of FURIA is enough to point just how consistently he has been delivering for the lineup.

But, kscerato is not alone. He is ably supported by yuurih and arT, with VINI and ableJ also chipping in. FURIA qualifying for the New Legends Stage could be brilliant for the Brazilian scene in general.

Nip will be the first ones to face FURIA at the New Challengers Stage. The Brazilians will fancy their chances against the legendary organization, with the Swedes not posting consistent results.

Overall, we believe FURIA reserve a very strong chance to upset the โ€˜favouredโ€™ teams. A genuine shout to join mibr at the New Legends Stage.
