Indian DOTA 2 Team wins Bronze at Commonwealth Esports Championship 2022

0

Team India has won the bronze medal at the inaugural esports event of Commonwealth Games 2022. India was pitched against New Zealand in a match of best-of-three in DOTA2. Team India clean swept New Zealand by winning with a 2-0 score line and bringing the bronze medal home.

Esports is added to the Commonwealth Games as an inaugural event and under this event, a total of three games namely Rocket League, DOTA 2 and eFOOTBALL were played.

Team India participated in two of these medal events and unfortunately, the Rocket League team could not make it past the league stage. The DOTA 2 Indian representatives, led by Moin Ejaz, had a good run in the tournament after Trinidad and Tobago did not show up at the event, leading to a clear path for Indian team.

India was then pitched against Malaysia in the semifinals where the team lost and subsequently was matched against New Zealand to fight for the bronze medal.

India dominated in the first game, leading to an easy win for the team. The second game started with New Zealand having a slight upper hand in terms of kills and economy but a balanced state was achieved in the mid game. Team India managed to ultimately turn the odds in their favour and win the second game, along with the bronze medal.

The playing five of this team were as follows:

  • Moin Ejaz
  • Ketan Goyal
  • Abhishek Yadav
  • Shubham Goli
  • Vishal Vernekar

This win and medal is not counted in the official tally of medals but it has brought India on the global roadmap. The entire Indian gaming community is certainly proud of the DOTA 2 team.

Team Soul and 7Sea Esports to participate in PMWI 2022

Team Soul and 7Sea Esports has apparently received a clearance to participate at the PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2022 despite its rebranded version, BGMI, being currently banned in India. These two teams will be competing at the main and afterparty event respectively.

PMWI 2022 is the mid-season invitational event held in Riyadh with a whopping amount of $3 million at stake. The prize money is divided into two parts with the main event receiving $2 million and an “Afterparty” event with another $1 million prize pool.

India received a special slot after a span of two years to qualify for PMWI 2022 and this seeding slot was presented to the BGMI Pro Series 2022 winners.

Later, a special tournament was held by the officials called BMSD 2022 and 7Sea Esports won this event to gain a slot in the Afterparty event.

Soon after these two teams received a seeding slot, BGMI was banned in India and the officials have been working with government authorities to resolve this issue.

Apparently, the Indian representatives have got some kind of clearance as the official page of PUBG Mobile Esports included the names of both of the Indian teams while giving an overview of PMWI 2022.

Valve decline ESIC’s new calculation of Coaching Ban concessions

After two appeals, ESIC made the decision to recalculate how concessions were applied to coaching bans, but Valve did not follow suit and left their Major bans unchanged.

As a consequence of successful appeals from Nicholas “guerri” Nogueira and Alessandro “Apoka” Marcucci, the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has decided to revise how ban reductions were computed when 37 coaches were banned in September 2020 for using the coaching bug.

During the first ban wave, “demerit points” were utilized to determine penalty lengths depending on the number of matches and rounds in which coaches experienced the problem. Concessions ranged from a 12.5% to 85% reduction of bans for those who confessed or aided with the inquiry.

As a direct result of this, Valve has since issued major bans to coaches who were complicit in the exploiting of the flaw. The CS:GO devs didn’t consider ESIC’s ban reductions, banning instructors based on demerit points.

While Apoka was banned from all Majors tournaments for the rest of his life, his ESIC punishment was cut by 85% from 36 months to just over six. Guerri was given a lifetime ban from all five Majors tournaments, although his penalty from ESIC member events was reduced from ten months to four months, a reduction of sixty percent.

Concessions used to be applied after ban lengths were established based on demerit points. However, the new computation of concessions reduces demerit points directly. In the previous calculation, concessions were applied after ban lengths were decided based on demerit points.

This indicates that if Valve had used and used this system or if it were to be changed today after the fact, some coaches would have been banned from fewer Majors than they are currently. Alternatively stated, this suggests that if this system had been used and applied by Valve.

“ESIC has conveyed the results to Valve in the hope that the publisher would adjust their sanctions in line with the recalculation, but Valve’s initial response indicates that they will not make that adjustment. While this is a matter for Valve, ESIC has asked Valve to reconsider their stance,” the ESIC stated.

Although ESIC asserts that no coach has ever missed more Majors than they would under the new formula, this appears unlikely to be the case. According to our estimates, four players would have been unbanned after just one Major — PGL Major Stockholm — but their suspensions ran for at least another.

Following the adjustment, Apoka and guerri should only have 2 demerit points, meaning that their Major bans would have ended after PGL Major Stockholm — the first Major held after the ban wave — instead of never in the case of the former and after five Majors at the end of 2023 in the case of the latter. Alexander “ave” Holdt and Robert “RobbaN” Dahlström should have had their demerit points reduced from 3 to 2, unbanning them after Stockholm instead of after Antwerp.

If Valve were to accept the new calculations, a number of other coaches who got concessions would also have their major ban periods modified, including six more whose major bans are currently in effect: Allan “Rejin” Petersen, Nicolai “HUNDEN” Petersen, Mariusz “Loord” Cybulski, Alexey “NooK” Kozlovskiy, Ricardo “dead” Sinigaglia, and Erik “AKIMOV” Akimov.

According to ESIC, Valve has decided against following suit and altering the bans, maintaining the same standing lengths since their introduction in early 2021. This decision was made by Valve. The monitoring organization has requested that the developers reconsider their decision, but it is highly doubtful that they will do so considering Valve’s unwavering commitment to their ban policy in general.

The press release was issued at a period when ESIC had not yet published their complete findings on the other usage of other variations of the spectator bug. Luis “peacemaker” Tadeu, Sergey “hally” Shavaev, and Rafael “zakk” Fernandes were the three coaches who were suspended by the watchdog after it was revealed that nearly one hundred more coaches had been affected by at least one of three variants of the bug.

However, the watchdog only suspended these three coaches because they were going to be participating in the upcoming PGL Major Antwerp. Since then, the suspensions placed on peacemaker and zakk have been removed.

Mobile games market declines in U.S by 9%

The Mobile Gaming market in USA has observed a big decline in the first half of 2022 in terms of player spendings and overall downloads. According to the reports by SensorTower, the market has declined by 9.6% in the H1 2022 as compared to H1 2021.

Mobile gaming has seen a skyrocketing rise in the past few years and the growth peaked during pandemic times. This trend is apparently going down the hill as the entire mobile gaming market has slipped in the USA.

According to this pictorial representation made by SensorTower, one can clearly see that all the sectors have seen a steep drop in revenue growth as each sector has fallen except Arcade, noting a 14.8% rise in this specific genre.

The racing genre has taken the largest hit as their yearly revenue has decreased by more than a quarter from H1 2021 to H1 2022. This data is centralized to USA but can depict a global trend as well.

If the data is analyzed for total downloads in between these two halves, one can see a similar declining trend with Casino games taking the biggest hit. The action genre received a generous amount of downloads.

Action and Shooter genre have climbed up drastically well, owing to the launch of Apex Legends Mobile and its contribution to increase the download number by 5.5 million. The quarterly growth shows this exact phenomenon.

Overall, the mobile gaming market has suffered a lot and lost a huge amount gained from player spendings. It will be interesting to see how this trend changes or shapes in the remaining half of 2022.

Team Tamilas picks ex-Hyderabad Hydras BGMI roster

Team Tamilas is back in the BGMI community after they hired the recently relieved roster of Hyderabad Hydras. The roster which was hired was essentially the part of Team Tamilas from the start and was hired by Hyderabad Hydras for a brief period of nine months.

Team Tamilas is one of the oldest mobile gaming rosters in the country. They had a dominating PUBG Mobile team that showcased the prowess of South India on the regional stage. Team Tamilas had made some great impact before their roster was hired by Hyderabad Hydras.

Hyderabad Hydras recently announced that they have parted ways with their entire BGMI division, including Vaadhiyaar, who is the owner of Team Tamilas. Soon after this move was officially announced, Team Tamilas made a comeback into the scene.

While talking about their move back to the roots, Vaadhiyaar, the owner of Team Tamilas stated that “lions are back to their den.”

He also stated players will be playing upcoming events under the banner of Team Tamilas. As BGMI is currently banned in the country, there is strong chance that Team Tamilas will be competing in New State in the near future.

Team Tamilas is creating a lot of hype right now and stating that this is “calm before the storm” implying that they are going to make a big move very soon. We speculate that some form of collaboration is right around the corner. The comments from Team Tamilas also imply that an official PUBG New State event is about to be announced.

Soul Goblin says MVP Title doesn’t matter if team loses

Soul Goblin, the star player of Team Soul that put the team back on the esports roadmap, recently talked about a few things on his live stream and gave insights about his own performance, the participation of Soul in PMWI and many other topics. Here are the short excerpts.

Goblin is one of the most aggressive players of all time. He is a newly rising star and community has stated that he might be playing a little more aggressively than needed. He addressed this point on his stream and mentioned that he is trying to keep his in-game aggression in check.

He mentioned that his overcommitment is one of the things that the player is personally working on and he has urged his fans to expect a slow improvement rather than a fast one.

While talking about his own performance and that of Team Soul, he mentioned that the MVP title that he may gain in a tournament holds no value if the team is not winning. The MVP is a cherry on top if Team Soul wins the tournament.

He also asked his fans to stop comparing himself to any of his teammate in term of kills or performance. He stated that all of those kills ultimately contribute towards the team points and it does not matter where they come from.

Ultimately, he spoke about Team Soul and their participation in PMWI 2022. Team Soul had won BMPS 2022 to gain a seeding slot at PMWI 2022 but their participation is uncertain, following the BGMI ban in India.

He said that Krafton has not clarified about his team’s participation at this global event. This means that there is no clarity about this issue yet.

Valorant Agent Tier List August 2022

0

There’s no doubt that Valorant is currently one of the most popular first-person shooters on the internet and is constantly growing in terms of user count. One of the main reasons behind the ever-expanding player base of the competitive shooter is the amount of effort that the developers put behind this title.

Riot Games is constantly shipping out new content to the game in the form of new updates, improvements, weapon skins, and such. New Agents are also introduced to the game once every few months, with each Agent having a unique set of skills at their disposal.

These Agent skills or abilities enable players to gain a competitive edge over their opponents on the battlefield. Some abilities can be used to disrupt enemy vision, while some are used to win duels.

No two agents in the game have the same skills and are divided into multiple groups based on their in-game roles.

While the developers’ team is constantly trying to keep the state of the game balanced, some Agents are clearly better than others.

Picking an Agent with a high win rate can help you climb through the competitive spectrum of the title at ease while picking low win rate Agents can halt the progress of even the best of players.

To help Valorant players reach the rank they deserve, we have created a Valorant Agent Tier list for August 2022. This tier list can help you decide which Agents to pick in your competitive games to have the best shot at winning.

Valorant Agent Tier List August 2022

  • S-Tier: Jett, Chamber, Sova, Fade, Viper
  • A-Tier: Skye, Breach, Raze, Killjoy, Neon, Reyna, Sage, KAY/O
  • B-Tier: Omen, Brimstone, Cypher
  • C-Tier: Yoru, Phoenix

Remember that while this tier list is valid as of August 2022, it is very likely to change in the near future as Riot continues to ship out more balance updates to the game.
