Ubisoft China launches coffee cup with handle on the inside, apologizes later

The product has been pulled off from the market after it was said to be a manufacturing error.

Partnering up with the Chinese clothing company Sheepedia, Ubisoft China recently launched a coffee mug which looked rather unusual. The handle on the cup was located on the inside of the cup rather than the outside like a regular cup.

Soon after the release of the cup, it was termed as a manufacturing defect and was pulled off from the market.

Twitter personality Danial Ahmad said through a tweet that the company issued an apology claiming there was a “bug” in the production process.

However, the possibility that the incident was a clever marketing strategy rather than a “bug” can’t be eliminated. Danial mentioned this in a follow-up tweet which included pictures from the previous announcements of the collab between the two companies.

This “bug” seems to have received an overwhelming response from the audience, who wanted to buy the mug which was pulled off from the market. Sheepedia is reportedly working with Ubisoft China and the French Headquarters to see if they can sell the cups or give them away.

If this was indeed a manufacturing defect, it turned out to be hilarious; and if this was a marketing plan all along, then it was truly a clever one.
