Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster Coming to PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch

The gaming universe is set to be illuminated once again by the iconic Star Wars FPS, “Dark Forces.” Nightdive Studios, renowned for breathing new life into classic games, is now turning its attention to this legendary title. Here’s a closer look at what fans can expect from this remastered gem.

“Star Wars: Dark Forces” first graced our screens in 1995, introducing players to the enigmatic Kyle Katarn. While he later embraced the path of the Jedi in subsequent titles, “Dark Forces” kept players grounded in intense FPS action. The game was lauded for its challenging missions and formidable boss battles, ensuring its place in the annals of gaming history.

Nightdive Studios is no stranger to remastering iconic games, having previously worked on “System Shock” and “Quake 2.” Their approach to “Dark Forces” is no different. Utilizing their in-house Kex Engine, the studio aims to enhance the game’s visuals and gameplay mechanics. Players can anticipate modern controls, 4K resolution, widescreen support, and a smooth 60fps experience. Larry Kuperman from Nightdive Studios emphasized their commitment to preserving the original essence.

Pricing and Comparisons

The remastered version of “Dark Forces” is expected to be priced between $20-$30, offering fans a nostalgic experience without breaking the bank. It will be intriguing to see how this official remaster stacks up against recent fan-made 4K versions.

While “Dark Forces” set the stage for Star Wars FPS games, the torch has now been passed to Respawn Entertainment. They’re currently developing the latest Star Wars FPS, following their successful releases, “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” and “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.”
