KRAFTON India has announced the return of one of BGMI’s memorable themed experiences. Ocean Odyssey is officially coming back to Battlegrounds Mobile India with the BGMI 4.6 Update, following requests from the game’s community. The underwater adventure will once again take players beneath Erangel to explore the Ocean Palace, hunt for valuable loot, use the powerful Trident, and face the Kraken. However, Ocean Odyssey will not become available immediately when Version 4.6 launches.
BGMI Ocean Odyssey Release Date
The BGMI Ocean Odyssey release date is September 30, 2026. KRAFTON India confirmed that the returning themed mode will become available two weeks after the main Version 4.6 update.
Ocean Odyssey will remain playable on Erangel from September 30 until November 16, 2026, giving players more than a month to experience the returning underwater mode.
Meanwhile, the BGMI 4.6 Update itself will release on September 16, 2026. This means players will first receive Version 4.6 before Ocean Odyssey is activated later on September 30.

Why Is Ocean Odyssey Returning to BGMI?
According to KRAFTON India, the decision to bring Ocean Odyssey back comes after continued interest from the BGMI community.
Instead of replacing the experience with something completely new, KRAFTON is reopening a themed world that players continued to discuss even after it was removed from the game.
The company has taken a similar approach with other popular experiences. Erangel: Ancient Secrets was also brought back following community interest.
For older players, Ocean Odyssey’s return provides another opportunity to revisit its underwater battleground. For players who started playing BGMI after the original mode was removed, September 30 will be their first opportunity to experience it.
Ocean Palace Returns to Erangel
The Ocean Palace is at the centre of Ocean Odyssey.
Unlike BGMI’s usual land-based locations, the Ocean Palace is an ancient kingdom located beneath the water.
A Sea Suppressor barrier creates an air pocket around the palace, allowing players to move and fight underwater without immediately worrying about drowning.
However, the protection does not last forever.
Once the barrier breaks, water begins flooding the Ocean Palace. Players then have to escape the submerged area, turning exploration and looting into a race for survival.
This mechanic was one of the biggest differences between Ocean Odyssey and BGMI’s regular themed modes.
Trident Is Back
Another major attraction of Ocean Odyssey is the Trident.
The legendary weapon can create powerful water sprouts capable of throwing opponents across the battlefield.
Getting the Trident, however, is not supposed to be easy.
The weapon is located inside the underwater experience and is protected by the Kraken, giving players another threat to deal with while searching for some of the mode’s strongest equipment.
Kraken Returns With Ocean Odyssey
The Kraken is another memorable part of the returning theme.
Players exploring Ocean Odyssey will once again encounter the dangerous creature while searching for the Trident. Its presence adds a PvE element to the experience alongside the usual fights against other BGMI players.
This means squads need to think about more than enemy teams when entering the Ocean Palace.
Explore the Forsaken Ruins
The Ocean Palace is not the only important location returning.
Players can also explore the Forsaken Ruins, another part of the underwater adventure filled with treasure and valuable loot.
The combination of Ocean Palace, Forsaken Ruins, Trident and Kraken helped make Ocean Odyssey considerably different from the traditional Erangel experience when it originally appeared.
BGMI 4.6 Will Have Two Different Themed Experiences
Ocean Odyssey is only one part of the upcoming content cycle.
The BGMI 4.6 Update releases on September 16, with Midnight Hunters bringing a darker supernatural theme involving Vampires and Vampire Hunters.
Midnight Hunters will feature supernatural abilities and PvE creatures such as Bloodwalkers and Vampire Elders. Eliminated players will even get an opportunity to return to the fight as Vampires.
Ocean Odyssey then arrives on September 30, giving players another themed experience within the same Version 4.6 cycle.
Ocean Odyssey Will Stay Until November 16
KRAFTON has also confirmed exactly how long the returning mode will remain available.
Ocean Odyssey will run from September 30 to November 16, 2026, on Erangel.
For returning players, it will be another opportunity to enter the Ocean Palace and hunt for the Trident. For newer BGMI players, it will be their first chance to experience one of the game’s biggest experiments with underwater battle royale gameplay.
With the BGMI 4.6 Update arriving September 16 and Ocean Odyssey following two weeks later on September 30, BGMI players have a packed content schedule ahead.
