Grand Theft Auto 6 has arguably drawn all of the attention from the community, so Rockstar’s plans for future games have largely gone under the radar. A freshly minted leak has suggested the developers are returning to an older franchise with L.A. Noire 2 as their next major project after GTA 6’s release.
With the release of GTA 6 drawing close, these rumors have gained significant traction. With several franchises to build on, leaks strongly suggest Rockstar will release a successor to their 2011 hit L.A. Noire.
L.A. Noire is a neo-noir crime thriller that was considered by many to be ahead of its time. Set in 1947 post-war Los Angeles during Hollywood’s Golden Age, the game effectively combined open-world driving, crime scene investigation, clue gathering, and suspect interrogations to give us a masterpiece.
For a game that is not as appreciated as other projects from 2011, the modern audience is receptive towards such titles given how well received 007: First Light was. However, the claims that L.A. Noire 2 is Rockstar’s next major release are anything but verified at the time of writing, and the source does not have a strong track record for us to get behind these claims.
As the gaming community focuses on the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar has a lot of time to reveal its plans for the next major project. Even if L.A. Noire 2 is in development, we are at least a couple of years away from its release, so it is in our own interest to keep our expectations in check.
