True Rippers finally managed to rip the team they did not expect- Velocity Gaming. After losing 13-2 in both maps when they last met, it is safe to say that True Rippers took their sweet revenge, as they handed Velocity their first defeat in this series. This game was one truly entertaining game as this was full of ups and downs, and nail-biting action.
Velocity Gaming Esports Roster and Lineup
The roster of Velocity Gaming consists of star-studded players like Sagnik “Hellff” Roy, Debanjan “DEATHMAKER” Das, Karan “Excali” Mhaswadkar, Domagoj “Doma” Fancev, Adam “ec1s” Eccles and Anuj “Amaterasu” Sharma (Sub).
But in a twist of events today, Amaterasu replaced Deathmaker, making a debut in VCL SA.
True Rippers Roster and Lineup
The roster of True Rippers consists of Saaransh “Whimp” Dang as the IGL, Shravana “Techno” Sahoo, Chogyal “Kaizen” Bhutia, Philip “Aryu” Vergara, Nereus “d1srupt” Lico and Aditya “Pixelzz” Gulhane.
Map Veto and Selection
True Rippers banned Fracture and Velocity Gaming banned Ascent. True Rippers went on to select Pearl and Velocity Gaming selected Split. Icebox and Lotus were banned, making the final map Haven.
It was surprising to see that Haven wasn’t banned against Velocity as in the entire tournament, Haven has been their strongest map.
Map Recap
On Pearl, VLT managed to start the series by winning the first pistol round, owing to Doma’s 3k. Doma was surprisingly spotted as playing the Jett for the team as Deathmaker was absent from today’s matches, giving Amaterasu the baton to play Killjoy. They won the anti-eco round and proceeded to win the bonus round as well. They managed to lead 4-0 when TR broke their momentum, carrying forward their wins to equalize the score at 4-4. VLT finished the half at 7-5 with Ec1s getting a quad kill in round 12.
VLT won the pistol on the attack side as well, along with the anti-eco round. They just lost the bonus round to their entire attacking side, finishing the map with a score of 13-6.
On Split, TR started by winning the pistol round on defense, alongside the anti-eco round. They managed to carry forward their momentum by winning the bonus round as well. After leading 4-0, VLT managed to come back as if they read through TR’s strategies, equalizing the score at 6-6.
TR won the pistol round yet again alongside the anti-eco round. The scores went neck-to-neck, as the score was 8-8 after round 16 as Doma managed to get three kills on judge. TR even managed to win a broken buy round in round 19, equalizing the score at 9-9. TR managed to close the match at 13-11, handing over VLT’s first map loss in this entire series.
In the third map of Haven, TR won the pistol round, starting off strong. VLT decided to force the second round but failed to convert it, forcing them into another eco round. Round 3 was a clean win for TR as D1srupt got a quad kill. VLT closed out round 4 as Doma got 3 kills, and they managed to clutch a 2v3 situation. VLT managed to show their dominance on Haven again as they got 9 rounds in a row to close the half at 9-3.
TR managed to win the pistol round again, as well as the anti-eco round, but couldn’t convert the buy round. TR again built their momentum by winning continuous rounds, not giving VLT the chance to breathe. In round 20, TR equalized their score as Kaizen got an amazing quad-kill to seal the round. In a shocking turn, TR managed to come back from being down 3-9 to win the map at 13-10.
This match truly showcased the potential in the underdog team, True Rippers, as they did the unbelievable, taking away the match from a team who did not drop a single map in the entire qualifiers, that too with a 9-3 comeback.
As for Velocity Gaming, they will meet God’s Reign in the lower bracket Semi-Finals.
