VCT Pacific: RRQ send Global Esports packing in their Week 7 fixture

Global Esports have been defeated by Indonesian Side RRQ as they now exit the contention towards the playoffs at the VCT Pacific League.

RRQ vs Global Esports Match Details

  • Global Esports Vs Rex Regum Qeon
  • Match Type: Best of 3, LAN
  • Week 7, VCT Pacific League

Map Veto

  • RRQ ban Lotus
  • Global Esports ban Haven
  • RRQ pick Fracture
  • Global Esports pick Pearl
  • RRQ ban Split
  • Global Esports ban Ascent
  • Bind was left over

Map 1: Fracture (Pick: RRQ, Winner: RRQ, Final Score: 13-10)

Global Esports started off Fracture on the right foot, taking an early lead of 4-2. Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha swirled at RRQ with his guns blazing, who tried to pierce every reinforcement set up by RRQ. Despite AYRIN and Monyet reducing RRQ to just 3 players, the latter converted a 3v5 into a flawless round-win post the spike plant. This indeed had the ball rolling for RRQ who were able to square off the first half 6-6 thanks to Eroll “EJAY” Jule Delfin’s ace heroics on Raze which saw GES being picked off at their spawn.

Coming from the break, RRQ seemed to have donned the driver’s seat, going 12-10 up, fueled by David “xffero”  Monangin’s assault post plant as he was able to deny Global Esports their 11th round on the board after converting a 1v3 post plant.

RRQ secured their map pick as both the teams headed over to Pearl, the second map in the Veto Pool.

Map 2: Pearl (Pick: Global Esports, Winner: RRQ, Final Score: 13:11)

Before RRQ ran away with a healthy 8-4 lead in the first half, Global Esports and David “xffero” Monangin traded off rounds back and forth only for the latter to run away with straight 4 rounds, much thanks to James “2geMONSTAH” Goopio on Harbor who locked out GES off their defense.

Despite the pundits favoring RRQ to be the series winner, Global Esports put up quite a show to defy the odds as they charted a comeback on their offense which saw them rack straight four rounds after being down 7-11. Jordan “AYRIN” He just fell short of luck as RRQ quickly recovered with Lmemore decimating Monyet and SkRossi to help his team run away with the series.

Global Esports now play DFM in the Week 8 of the VCT Pacific League.

Finnish Newspaper Uses CSGO Map To Bypass Russian Censorship of Ukraine War News

Leading Finnish newspaper ‘Helsingin Sanomat’ has found an innovative way to bypass Russian censorship on the Russia-Ukraine war, and it comes in the form of a CSGO map.

The newspaper launched a custom CSGO map on World Press Freedom Day to provide accurate news reporting of the ongoing war and aims to distribute “independent journalism” to Russians.

The map, named ‘de_vonya’, represents a Slavic city that has been devastated by war. Once players venture inside the map, they’ll be able to find a secret room that showcases the horrors of the war in Ukraine that Russians will be able to view in their native language. The room includes uncensored footage and images of the cruelties witnessed by the reporters of Helsingin Sanomat during the war.

“Russians have very little chance to receive independent information about Putin’s invasion of Ukraine,” Helsingin Sanomat editor-in-chief Antero Mukka told GamesRadar+. “However, the gaming world and gamers themselves are still left unchecked. That’s why we decided to hide a newspaper inside the world’s most popular war game. We built a map of a Slavic city devastated by war, inside the game, with a secret room that offers Russian gamers uncensored access to the horrors of the war in Ukraine in their native language.”

At the time of writing, it doesn’t seem that Russia is aware about this map as the country hasn’t made any efforts to censor this from its citizens.

Players looking to check out ‘de_vonya’ for themselves can do so by checking out the workshop page of the map on Steam.

CSGO Records 1.8 Million Concurrent Players

CSGO, released in 2012 by Valve, is a revamped version of the original Counter-Strike, which first made its debut in 2000. Over the years, it has established itself as one of the most popular online multiplayer games, boasting a thriving player base.

Despite some criticisms, the record-breaking player count is proof of the game’s enduring popularity. Over a decade since its release, CSGO remains one of the world’s most popular online multiplayer games, attracting new players while retaining its dedicated fanbase.

In conclusion, CSGO is a timeless first-person shooter that continues to enamor players with its intricate gameplay, thriving esports scene, and fresh content. With its record-breaking player count, CSGO serves as evidence of its lasting popularity, and its future remains bright as it continues to be a staple in the competitive gaming world.

Recent Statistics

More than 1.8 million individuals were playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive at the same time earlier today, making it the game’s busiest day ever.

There are currently 1,818,773 players online, and this number has smashed the previous 24-hour record numerous times. Records have been steadily falling over the past few months, but this latest number is completely unprecedented.

There has been no slowdown in growth since the previous record of 1,507,212 concurrent gamers was reached just six weeks ago.

It’s no secret that the anticipation for Counter-Strike 2 was a major influence in most of these firsts, with the last substantial rise occurring right after the debut of the Limited Test.

However, it appears that the availability of stickers and Pick’Ems for the upcoming BLAST Paris Major has had a considerable impact on the number of players this time around. It’s likely that fewer people will participate in the Pick’Em prediction competition because it was just released three days before the event was scheduled to begin on May 8.

Previously, the only game that has managed to hit a concurrent player count of over 1.5 million on Steam is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The battle royale by KRAFTON managed to hit an astonishing 3.2 million concurrent player count in 2017, and still holds the crown for the most concurrent players on Steam.

Part of the credit for the constantly increasing popularity of CSGO can go to the release of the Counter-Strike 2 limited test. While the full game is scheduled for launch in the Summer of 2023, Valve has already shipped a beta test for the upcoming game that a limited number of CSGO players can opt into.

The Everlasting Charm of CSGO

CSGO’s unwavering popularity can be credited to its unique formula. It blends fast-paced action and tactical gameplay, requiring players to work together as a team to accomplish objectives and defeat the opposing team. The game’s competitiveness is elevated by its ranking system, allowing players to measure their progress and compete with others of similar skill levels.

OG won the second pistol round as well and finished the map at 13-2 as they did not give VLT any chance to breathe in the second half.

How to Install “de_voyna” Map in CSGO?

0

Players can access reports on the Russian military’s exploits in Ukraine in a secret room on a CSGO map named “de_voyna”, which would normally be banned under Kremlin press laws. The Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat created a Counter-Strike map to inform Russian CSGO gamers about the invasion of Ukraine, as the Valve FPS game is not currently censored in Russia.

In recognition of May 3rd, which is World Freedom of the Press Day, the CSGO map with the hidden room was launched on May 2nd. About four million Russians routinely participate in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The map was built by a news and media outlet Helsingin Sanomat to help Russian CSGO players stay abreast of events in Ukraine. Helsingin Sanomat’s editor-in-chief, Antero Mukka, released a statement to PCGamesN explaining the reasoning behind the CSGO competition.

NOTE: TalkEsport is not promoting de_voyna and won’t be responsible if things go south for anyone who tends to download and access this map. Proceed with your own caution.

How to install the “de_voyna” map in CSGO

You need to “subscribe” to maps via the Steam Workshop page to gain access to the map.

  1. Open the Steam Workshop page for CSGO
  2. Log in to your Steam Account
  3. Now, find and head over to the de_voyna map page
  4. Hit Subscribe
  5. Steam should automatically download the map once you hit subscribe.
  6. To access the map you can use the console or load up the map from the Game UI.

How to uninstall the “de_voyna” map in CSGO

“de_voyna” is a third-party map and it may not work as intended on some systems. You should install the map at your own risk and beware of any issues that may arise.

If you do not want to keep the map files on your system anymore, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Open up the de_voyna map page again.
  2. Unsubscribe yourself from the map.
  3. The map has now been removed from your workshop pool.

If you die on de_voyna, you can go into spectator mode and look around the map like you would in any other CSGO match. However, if you use the free camera, you may also uncover a secret area decked out with Russian translations of Helsingin Sanomat’s reporting on the invasion of Ukraine.

Inside the game, the news outlet has constructed a map of a damaged Slavic city and hidden a room that gives Russian players unrestricted access to news about the ongoing fighting. Here’s all you have to do to get your hands on the CSGO “de_voyna” map.

Ever since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, massive business conglomerates have decided to either pull out of the CIS region or discontinue their services until there is clarity on the political tensions although there has been a massive support in the interest of Ukraine. ESL too had cut ties with Russian organizations which saw Russian teams play under a new banner.

The kill cam gives players unrestricted access to visual documentation of the conflict. Russia hasn’t done anything yet to stop the mod, but that could change soon. A Steam account in a different country and a Virtual Private Network would be necessary if Russia were to ban Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Fortnite joins Olympic Esports Series as surprise late entry

0

Fortnite has just been added as a late entry to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) latest venture into esports. In a surprising twist, the IOC has decided to include the massively popular game Fortnite in the Olympic Esports Series, marking a significant turning point for the industry.

The event will showcase nine virtual sports, each represented by a different video game, including Just Dance and Gran Turismo. However, the news that Fortnite has been included as the tenth discipline, specifically for the “sport shooting” category, has generated significant buzz.

What’s fascinating about this decision is that it represents a significant U-turn in the IOC’s stance on so-called “killer games.” Previously, the organization had been adamantly opposed to including violent video games in the Olympics, citing concerns about promoting violence and discrimination.

In fact, IOC President Thomas Bach had famously declared in 2018 that “we cannot have in the Olympic programme a game which is promoting violence or discrimination.” But it seems that the IOC has had a change of heart, perhaps due to the immense popularity and cultural significance of Fortnite.

While Fortnite is certainly a shooter game, it is widely considered to be family-friendly due to its lack of gore and the presence of whimsical items. Nevertheless, the core gameplay still involves defeating opponents to win, which raises some interesting questions about the values and principles that the Olympics represent.

On the other hand, the inclusion of Fortnite also highlights the potential and popularity of virtual sports, which have been steadily gaining traction over the past few years.

So what does this mean for esports fans and gamers around the world? Well, the inclusion of Fortnite in the Olympics could potentially open up new opportunities for professional players, particularly since the top 12 players from the 2023 Fortnite Champion Series will be invited to participate.

This is consistent with the approach taken by other virtual sports included in the roster, which are largely being handled by the game developers.

The final event will be held in person in Singapore from 23rd to 25th June, where a total of ten virtual sports will be featured, including archery, baseball, cycling, sailing, taekwondo, tennis, and even chess.

Just Dance will represent the dance category, while Gran Turismo will be used for racing. Mobile game apps will represent the other sports, such as Tic Tac Bow for archery, which combines traditional accuracy requirements with the gameplay of noughts and crosses.

Overall, the inclusion of Fortnite in the Olympics is a bold move by the IOC, one that reflects the changing times and the evolving nature of sports and entertainment. Whether it will be a success or a failure remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: the world will be watching.

GDR got their momentum by winning the pistol round and the anti-eco round. They lost their bonus round, bringing the score to 10-5. AA managed to do a reverse sweep as they closed the map at 13-8 and the game at 2-1.

Kishi emerged as the match MVP with a KDA of 58/35/19 on Viper, Killjoy, and Breach.
